@Forever Changed there are always ways to make them cheaper. The five dollar ones dont provide the same access of movement for people with disability. This is already quite an old episode, so im hoping they found a way.
@@mortechrome tru but it doesn't have to be a walking activity. Even just using it in the yard for say people who have amputated legs, people in wheeled chairs, people disabled who cant afford care givers who take too much time and effort to clean up for their assistive pets. It's quite an extra limb with quite a very effective design. It might be niche but im still hoping for its availability 😇

Several montage clips have shown dragons acting disgusted at food, especially some peanut product, but I haven't seen any pitch where they all hated the food, contrary to the "notoriously hard to please" character the show gives them. I wish I could see those ones

The device seems very well engineered, at least for people who don’t want to get close to poo.
thats the point. the more complex a product, the more expensive. making your product useless as a way of making money once you value your product too high for what most people are willing to pay.
It's well engineered but the issue is that nobody in their right mind is going to walk around with that big thing while walking the dog, especially if you're running with it.
if someone doesn't want to get close to poo they shouldn't get a dog

The problem is it is over-engineered. It becomes an over-complicated tool for a simple problem. It is heavy, huge, and looks like it could even be a weapon. The only real target market for this are disabled people who have trouble bending over, but they are not going to want to carry around that big honking thing if they already have trouble with movement.
The lunch comments are as annoying as Jenny jokes - and that's why I'm out.

Speaking as a dog owner, I really don’t mind picking up the poop, he’s my baby and it needs picking and I certainly wouldn’t go on a 3 mile walk carrying that device
The only thing this saves is bending down but you'll get a bad back having to carry it.

Well, it is ridiculously overengineered. I have a roll plastic sandwich bags in my pocket, if my dogs poops, I take one out, bend down, and pick it up. It costs nothing. I dont have to wear this bazooka that costs what was it 50+ dollar?
His only customers are the ones that 'dare not pick up' the poop of their dogs. The ones 'not caring to pick up the poop' are not buying it. So, that leaves the tiny fraction of people with dogs, that do want to pick the poop up, but 'dare not', because they are grossed out or too old to risk bending over.
That is the only thing I would say speaks fór them: even if only 0.01 percent of all dog owners fit their market: thats, globally, still a huge market.
Still, the price and size, makes it unrealistic, when the alternative is 'the sandwich bag' for 99.99 percent of dog owners.

@@baskoning9896 personally I think it's a great device. My dogs poops are like landmines and they each poop up to 4 times a day. I am in the 60+ age group and have a hip replacement so bending is a real problem. I think this is a great invention. I would like to know how much sand is gathered up with the bag if my dogs poop on the beach.

If you asked me which dragon wont won't go anywhere near dog poo and has to get his neighbour pick it up, I would have said Peter without even thinking about it
This is perfect for the local kids to go door to door charging to clean yards, also trash crews on roads etc. Peter is the only one who sees the good stuff 👍

Most dog walkers I observe only pick up if they know they’re being watched. So they basically carry a bag just in case they’re forced to pick it up. No way anyone is going to walk around with this contraption. Even at home, I should think squeamish people like peter are the minority.
I pick up my dog's poop whether you're watching me or not but I have no problem bending down to do it. Picker uppers are not overly squeamish and don't need it, the market is people with mobility issues and Peter Jones.

Peter was the only decent Dragon this time round. The invention is solid so fair play to him for actually giving them some credit for their innovation. For a group of entrepreneurs, I'm surprised none of them picked up on applications for the design outside of dog poop. I immediately saw the value in this as a trash collector or even rodent catcher or something. Nobody even asked about a patent. Really weird.
£150,000 is way too much of an asking price tho so I'm not at all surprised nobody invested, especially with those margins. But the design itself definitely has merit beyond what they mentioned.
I mean maybe it'd make sense for someone like a cleaner in the park. But am pretty sure people who own dogs are aware of the need to clean their poop so I doubt they so grossed out by it. It just comes with owning the dog tbh.
For a professional cleaner, the design is too flimsy, it would break after a few thousand scoops is my guess.
Maybe for elderly pet owners

I think a great idea would be to somehow attach a small motor to the device so it would be a simple thing to just press a button and away it goes, obviously have multi speed options on it and then market it as a mens sex toy, make a fortune that`s for sure especially considering what those rubber fingers could do and how pleasurable they would be.
This is a brilliant gadget, especially for the "looser" dogs eggs.

At the point this was filmed, the pooper scooper business was worth more than Rachel Elnaugh's company. Probably.
So, Peter Jones thought the product was brilliant - but he didn't invest because he didn't have 1 statistic that he could have googled in 2 seconds?
There are some really simple changes this show needs to implement such as:
- Being allowed to pull out your phone for things such as a quick google search, or to quickly calculate some numbers
- Being allowed to bring a sheet of paper with your financials and numbers already pre-written
If these simples things were allowed in the Den, life would be so much easier, and pitches would be so much smoother.
But no, instead they PURPOSELY make the entrepreneurs have to memorised every bit of information by heart, whilst nervously standing there on the spot.....
And why?
Oh yes, to intentionally throw them off their game, to create some good drama for RUclips and TV.

Nobody is asking for 150k for free. They are literally trading that money for equity. It is a MUTUAL TRADE.
But so many of you viewers have been falsely conditioned to see it as some kind of "asking for free money" gig..... Just look at how the pun-narrator-guy always claims at the end that the entrepreneurs have "walked away with nothing" if they fail to gain investment.....
They DO NOT walk away with "nothing".
They walk away with ALL OF THEIR EQUITY still owned.
So please do not compare this dynamic to the dynamic of a Job Interview.

This is early dragons when they were not sure how rude they could be so just looked for any petty reason (basically Modern Debra) Peter: "give me the world history of dog poo cleanup, if you don't know verbatim then I am out"
Even though it's a well designed, quality product and it would be useful for elderly people or disabled people. But for most people it's pointless and embarrassing to carry around 😂
If I had a dog, would definitely buy one. I think there are many people like me in the world.

This is why I hate these types of shows...because the Dragons/Sharks see the world through their own "posh" experience and never put themselves in anyone else's shoes.
The irony is amazing in this comment. The only person here that looks at it in a very personal point of view and not realistically is you and only you.
From all the human population one portion of people has dogs. From that portion a smaller portion takes the poop but finds its unpleasant and wants some alternative way or does not take the poop because they need an alternative way. Only by this simple thought process we reached such a small percentage of people that almost any device becomes worthless due to the small market.
Also, even if the market was bigger and the item had realistic chances to be successful, almost noone would want to carry with them a bazooka looking ghostbuster gun on their walk or even better the one that is for your backyard and is NOT portable in that way.
Onto your point now, yeah there are some people that are on a wheelchair and have dogs and cannot take the poop properly and MAYBE they would want something like that, maybe even that specific item. Is that in any way a good investment? Would you give 150k from your pocket as well as your personal time, when you work on a million other things, because there are some people with disabilities or old enough to have such a problem and maybe want to use such a product? Do you know how the market works and how people make money? Take all the disabled/old/cannot take poop people, see how many of them actually own a dog and actually want to use such a product and how many of them will ACTUALLY buy THIS product and tell me honestly if it is a posh idea that it will not sell or just statistics.
We are not putting ourselves in someone else's shoes. We are not in a reality/talk show. We talk about business and a product of this purpose and design with this market will PROBABLY not sell. End of story.

So there is a market for their product. But, when it came down to it, it was mostly the price. I am sure if they could have cut that price down, we wouldn't be having this conversation. My gripe is simply some folks (like I stated) don't think about others that could find it useful, but instead only consider their own experience. I believe my theory is confirmed by Peter, but imagine if he had no issues picking up dog poop....

Mind you, that pitch was made a lot of years ago, at least 10+ ago which this market did not exist at all, and even after so many years there a few companies that actually make some money out of it but still nowhere close to any other dog related product at least so far.
I will again point out that these people talk business. They literally invest and buy and sell things that they themselves do not use neccessarily but can understand their value. Thinking that just because Dunkan is not old enough to feel the pain bending over or with certain disabilities means that he cannot understand if something is useful or needed enough by people makes you naive. They will invest in the stupidest most rediculous things that they could even hate JUST BECAUSE it could potentially make money. They did not see how useful it is to invest on it. No dragon said that NOONE would like to use it or needs to use it. They said no depended on the market and the item itself and the price and that back in 2010 or even before of that it sounded rediculous to actually have something like that.
Lastly, as you saw yourself, the items that are now produced and sold are like the bucket of an excavator but with 2 different buckets closing in order to simulate the grab. This couple's machine was a pump sex toy look alike that needed 2 hands to use, is definately heavy and big in volume. Maaaaaybe if they showed something like the simple spring action grabbing thingy that you showed me then maybe they would see that probably with no rediculous mechanisms and with an item feeling like a plastic light shovel that grabs then they could make money and sell it to people even if the market is not huge at the moment at least.

Which is not for almost all the population that has dogs. Literally noone that does not have any problem to bend should or at least needs to buy and use this item and the people that have a problem bending and also a dog are probably so few so ee are talking about most humans which are immediately excluded as potential buyers.
The best part of this product is if you use it in reverse like a fecal super soaker.

1) you dont have to bend over 2) you dont have to 'feel' the poop.
Which does not weigh up against the disadvantages: carrying an enormous bazooka around while walking the dog, and the price.
