    Your chinchillas are very friendly and cute! Ally, I hope you don’t mind answering two questions: 1. One of my chin was never really a snuggle bug but lately after 6 months she started to drift more away from me, what gives? There’s no health issue or any changes to her routine. 2. My two Chins live together and snuggle while sleeping but not that close together, I always wonder are they actually happy or kinda like only tolerating each other?
    Thanks Ally 🥰

    • @AllysAnimalAntics
      @AllysAnimalAntics  3 года назад +4

      Some chinchillas just don't like snuggling up to each other, also if she has just turned 6 months she is starting to mature and may just want to be distant from the other chinchilla.
      The environment plays a part as well , when chinchillas are kept at room temperature they are less likely to snuggle up.
      Either way it's no cause for alarm unless they are fighting. I have two chinchillas that have been bonded for about two years now. They have a large cage and they sleep at opposite ends of it one sleeps in the bottom half and the other sleeps in the top half. They do get along though and they definitely seem happier together than they did in their own but they just don't sleep together.
      I would just keep an eye out for fighting, if they are fighting it's best to seperate them.

    When I got my chinchillas we ended up putting them together in a bathroom, one was alot bigger because the other one was a runt of his litter. Yet the runt was really territorial and i had them separated for awhile. Before the runt ended up passing away due to reasons I'm still trying to figure out I tried to put them together. We kept them together but my bigger chinchilla had patches of fur missing at times and chewed whiskers. I think he was depressed because all he would do is sit there. The bigger one is a huge sweet heart, he just tried to run away while the runt ended up biting him making him bleed. So I kept them separated. Not sure if it was the right choice.

    I'm wondering when's the best time of the day to bond my two chinchillas. They've seen each other for over three months now. I'm hoping to use the smooshing method, but I'm worried about one of them who might show more aggression. For her sleep schedule, she's mostly active at night after ten and sleeps in the daytime and through the evening. She has quite a mood swing on a daily, routine basis, where she enjoys social time with me after midnight, and is more skittish with me in the late afternoon and early evening, about average at other times of the day. Would you have any suggestion on when the best time to smoosh them is based on her energy and outgoing level? Many thx!

    We are trying to bond 2 male chinchillas, one is 7 months old and the other is a year old... The one year old one is very territorial, and when we let them loose on the floor together, not in a cage, so they're in a neutral space, he chases, barks and attacks the younger one. I have built a super big new tall 'palace' for them, that none of them had been in, with new toys, new platform, new hideouts... They first explored it seperately, and sort of got on for 30 mn, but after that the one year old one started attacking the younger one again... there was lots of fur everywhere, and the little one was terrified, so we took out the dominant one back in his own cage for a bit, and tried again later, but the same happened... Do you think at this stage, it is still worth trying the smooshing method? Is the fact that they are quite young , an extra factor of hyperactivity and moodiness (like in teenagers!! ;) ) and they might get along better in a few months...? Any tips / advice much appreciated...

    • @AllysAnimalAntics
      @AllysAnimalAntics  2 года назад

      If you have got a male that is really highly territorial it may not work. Sometimes as they get older though they can get more accepting of others. You could try the smooshing method it worked witg my two however you have to keep a really close ete on them first sigb of fighting remove them from the carrier. If he is still really dominant you may have to house them separately.

    I am currently doing some research on bonding males and i was wondering if age matters? I have recently rescued a 3 year old male and hoping to bond him with another male, but i am wondering if a need to get him a similar aged male to make sure they bond correctly. Thanks!

    • @AllysAnimalAntics
      @AllysAnimalAntics  3 года назад +1

      Hi age doesn't really matter that much it's more to do with the individual personalities of the chinchillas. However I would avoid bonding a baby with an adult male as if they do have a fight an adult male could cause serious injury to a baby . So anything over 8 months would be fine. Arnie the chinchilla in this video is nearly 15 years old and the chinchilla I bonded him with was 18 months, they still get along great.

    • @AllysAnimalAntics
      @AllysAnimalAntics  3 года назад +1

      I have around 50 chinchillas and I would say I have had around 5 or 6 that will not bond and do not tolerate other chinchillas, it's really down to personality of the chinchilla and how territorial they are. If a chinchilla has previously fought with other chinchillas or they show cage aggression this can mean you may have difficulty bonding them. It can be really hard to predict whether two chinchillas will get along . Age doesn't really make a huge difference but I do find it slightly easier to bond baby chinchillas of the same sex as they are not sexually mature so are less likely to be territorial.
