Wonderful! Beautiful repair and restoration. Finishing the body with grain accent and oil is absolutely perfect and though many people feel that the headstock needed more reinforcement it looks to me like the blocks of wood on top and around the back will be very secure. Tite bond is stronger than the wood itself isn't it.
Impressive repair of the headstock. I would always be worried about it breaking again due to how little material there is after the nut... it's so thin in that area.
I've used Titebond (red label) on a cracked alder body, and it is absolutely rock solid. It's water based so I diluted it a little and used a syringe to get it as deep in those cracks as I could. On maple, like this neck, I'd try a little thinner glue as well, just to give it ample opportunity to soak into the grain as much as possible. But after glueing a broken headstock and (most importantly) giving it plenty of time to cure fully, you'll never see it break at the same spot again...
Wow! Another fantastic repair and refinish! I would call the finish on this one "Toasted Tiger". It takes a true artist like yourself to control the flame to get a very unique pattern that isn't too dark or overly scorched. Well done sir!👍😎
i acquired a bass that was broken just like this. I cut the whole right side off, got a cheap 12 string kit, cut its left side off, and made them into a double neck
What a great idea, taking advantage of the wood grain to burn it in the right places. Came out just 💯 And never fails to impress me how powerful wood glue is, that and of course your skills because that headstock was 🥴
That flamed finishing was the right thing to do, given the beautiful wood natural stripes. Well done and excellent choice my friend. But having said that, I was expecting from you to refine the neck insert with a samurai katana. Hugs from Italy.
As usual, you worked outright guitar necromancy on this poor thing! I'm impressed that the neck and headstock joint is holding up that well under the tension of the strings. Since I build miniatures, I always imagine you maybe using wooden dowels to reinforce bad breaks like the ones in this video--pinning joints helps reinforce them. Great work as always, it's beautiful!
My only issue is the headstock really needed splines inset to strengthen that area. Everything else is great, especially the look of the wood with the burnt grain, absolutely an AMAZING choice! Couldn't have picked a better look for the body. I would just feel better and trust the headstock repair more if you would have routed a slot from the back of the neck into the headstock that went deeper than what you routed for the large replacement piece of wood you added. More of the original wood could have been left so there was wood to provide grip for the glue, but enough removed to both get rid of the damaged area and make it strong. It's just what I have seen many other repair techs/luthiers due when repairing that kind of break.
Before applying the glue , the surfaces to be glued must be moistened with a wet sponge and allowed to dry a little, the tone block cover could be placed deeper into the body by milling the seat, the back side of the neck pocket could be filed down, it looks like a brick, It's strange that you didn't shield the pickups holes - they are located close to each other and that would be good. Ash veneer could have been used on the head - then the body and the head would have looked close. the place where the head and the neck meet is very thin - it had to be reinforced without removing so much wood. it could break again or bend , which would cause the head to rise. a small ramp between the pickups would be very useful - it would make it possible to play without the strings clanking on the pickups
I've done minor repairs before but nothing as involved as this. The headstock repair was inspired. I've always wondered how heavy damage like could be fixed, if at all. Well done.
The ghost of Leo was chanting, "No, no, my idea was you just buy a new neck."
😆😄
That would have been a lot easier and probably more costeffective
F'real.
Another really nice instrument destroyed for a video.
Fantastic job especially the headstock the whole repair was great. I'd be happy to get that bass.
I had my fingers crossed when you started sanding that this would stay natural. Awesome work!

I would wager the way the headstock was fixed would actually be stronger than the original.
@ I had that thought too. Could go either way I think.

The abilities of a headless man are amazing.
Love the figuring off that wood appearing as you sanded it!

My heart hurt when I first saw that broken bass. Incredible work.

Hope the bass player's OK !
Amazing work!=)

Very Very Nice. Great repair too
I like that a heel or commonly known as a value was added, and to go with woodgrain looks better than new.

George and Leo would be happy.👍👍

Awesome job sir! 😊
Would have looked even more awesome with a nitrous white body and headstock! 😊
MIJ G&L. That's some rare sight. I used to have a MIJ S-500 and still regretting selling it off. It's in my display picture lol.
Well done, you’re a true master of your art great video
Another great video and an incredible restoration job!
Excellent timing! I’m working on a similar headstock repair, you gave me some great ideas! ❤
Nice! Now i see a list of materials used in video description!
So cool! Btw with the head cover it was possible to match wood structure of the body lol
Not sure how I feel about that Cinnamon Toast Crunch finish 😂

Just Awsome i love it !❤ A dead bass back to a new live 😊 i Hope the new Home is good to this bass ❤
Virtually a Music Man Stingray...
Great job! That lives again!
No wonder the body snapped, look at that grain runout!
Is the person who did this in jail?? Great job as usual!
This is the smashing basses
Always always the best!
What an AMAZING job in this bass, congrats!!!!! I admire your work!!!
Beautiful!!
That was definitely broken on purpose lol
Work of a master. ❤
Soooo good job!!!!
Amazing ,sir!
Take my like.👍🏻
NICE! Very Cleaver Using A Veneer Cap On The Headstock. Recommend Doing That When Cover Holes! EXCELLENT!
Just glue holding that head together, hope its a tight bond.
I love your channel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice job!
Great Job again !!!.Congratulations ¡!!🎸🎶🎸🎶🎸🎶
Fantastic, amazing restoration, the poor bass is back to life!
G&L Bass , nice job👍🤟👴🍻🍺 cheers from Texas
masterwork
wow. very nice.
So good!
Where do you find these abused instruments?
11:25 too much heat. Natural wood is nice.
And this is why we shouldn't lend instruments to the WHO 😢. Wonderful resurrection. 👍
Amazing!
Where in the world do you find all these instruments in such horrible condition.
hello my friend. i got interested in restoration items like this. if it's not a secret, where do you buy it and how much does it cost?
Not even did you save this fine instrument, you even made it look more classy. And in the end we can hear this bass was well worth saving!
Amazing work
Muy buen trabajo

bon entrainement ^^
Mastery
Bravo!!
superbe travail
👍👍👍
How in the world did this happen?
Wonder was it due to an accident or a moron who smashes instruments on stage?
👌👍👍👍
Probably was, maybe a Silverchair bass?
Road kill I'm guessing?
🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝
You can tell that this guy destroyed this guitar just fo this video....
Lo resucitaste!
I'd he'd wet the wood just a little the glue would wick into the Crack alot easier and you'd get alot better bond.
👍🤟❤🎼🎸🎶
wak
amazing!
