Jaywick is voted as one of the most deprived areas of the UK. In this travel vlog I get stuck into some great conversations with the locals, enjoy some cracking Great British fish and chips, and finally explore the history and up- and-coming future plans for this once popular coastal village.

Sorry its only me again iv been reading replies and all you wonderful people saying the same...its a wonderful place and I can't wait to come and shake hands with a few of you lovely people...and I love this program the man done a great example of your smashing jaywick .I think its time to have some breaks little holidays in jaywick...

Heard so many times that the sense of community in Jaywick Sands is second to none. I agree and the beach is almost too good to share.

I must say I went to jaywick when I was 6...I'd love to come and see your beautiful beach above all meet all you genuine people I love meeting nice people and I think you are all wonderful people holding on...I think that is amazing in its self please please keep loving your beautiful jaywick..iv always said it's not the area..its the people in it..and I can't believe how nice you all seem I'm gonna come to jaywick and meet some lovely people..good luck everyone...😉😉😉

I used to have a school friend in the 60s who had a holiday home in Jaywick and used to visit. I still stop there when I visit Clacton as it has such a lovely beach. It would be lovely to see it become a resort again one day.
100%…a resort would change it around completely…such a waste at the moment. That beach is a hidden gem 💎

Love this - Jaywick is a great place, my family have lived here all of their lives and live in luxury and by the wonderful beach.

It might be deprived and run-down by southern English standard, but it looks less depressing than most of Scotland. A beach, and a bit of sunshine, counts for a lot.
I would pick Jaywick , anytime over Scotland. At least in Jaywick people make you welcome.!

After going on holiday there every year until I was 16 I have incredible memories of Jaywick. Seeing the Beach Bar and remembering the donkey rides and the trampoline brings it all back. I always dreamed of retiring there but somehow have ended up here in Thailand for the past 30+ years! Even with all the adverse publicity, a month back in Jaywick would be a dream come true. Don't think it will ever happen but it would be heaven for me! Good luck to all the people of Jaywick.

I’ve always been put off going since that documentary on tv years ago I would def visit now after your video , the beach looks nice and clean for sure and the waters not too far for the kids 👍🏻
For sure, excellent beach and toilets at the eldorado arcade and bar a short walk from there. Pop into Ozzy and grab some great fish n chips when you go. Say hi to him from me 👌🏼🤟🏼

Theres a lot of pleasure right there, lovely quiet swim. You do not want millions of tourists & constant noise & rowdy crowds.

yeah the beach is lovely and lots of future prospects. It's taken a battering but everything has a cycle. fish and chips with ozzy and a bit of sunbathing with some ice cream is where its at!

LOVE THIS ! I've always loved Jaywick since a child, there are still bits of it that they didn't show, like the nice pub halfway between Jaywick & Clacton. The Martello Inn, (more Jaywick I think) The beach has always been lovely, clean. tidy & not crowded ~ I miss it x

Hi Janice yes great memory's...what a lovely time and I will go back to jaywick sands and the martello has gone so iv been told...my favourite uncle nipper lives that way...he loves it..we all have to go back and just take in the wonderful times the memory's most of all the smashing people....lovely 😊
@@paulhaley5009the martello in is still there, it is a Toby carvery. It's technically in clacton though, but a 3 minute walk along the beach, you are in Jaywick.

Jaywick was the most popular seaside town to visit in the 70s the best beaches on the Essex coast, I had many happy holidays there as a kid, it was destroyed by the London overspill as many of Essex towns and villages have been now, my home town including a beautiful little valley in Essex where community was everything, now a town with no community at all hardly anyone speaks English and manners are a distance memory 😢

Early fifties that beach was crowded and it was full of holiday makers, the onset of cheap flights abroad was the death knell for Jaywick

i think both sides of JW are true but the downcast media stuff is BS, no doubting this is the East coast, a touch of Holland one bit even below sea level, one problem estate but no sense of menace. I really didnt mind JW at all,

Many happy memories of Jaywick, as a kid. Great sands and trampolining, the old Casablanca Cafe.
However, the whole place needs to be bulldozed, sea defences improved, then re-developed.
The people definitely deserve for it to be redeveloped. They’ve got a great community spirit and It would give them extra pride in Jaywick 👍🏼
@@ADayintheUK The problem is that you have so many individually-owned tiny lots, that were originally designated for holiday homes; not permanent residence. Added to that, the blight and high unemployment. You would really have to start over, but then I don't know if many of the current residents/owners would be able to afford anything in a redeveloped Jaywick.
Why not put that remark to the people of Jaywick Sands themselves. It may look like a shanty town but each dwelling is somebodies castle... personally I can’t see how redevelopment would improve things might make things worse.. it would certainly lose what little charm it has gained. Must say I’m a bit surprised as to how so many of the original holiday chalets have survived since the 1930s considering they were meant for holidaying in and not for permanent housing !

The only part of Jaywick that should be demolished, flattened and rebuilt is Broadlands. And it is totally the councils fault that it is as run down, derelict and a huge trouble spot. I live on the borders of Clacton a stone's throw from the countryside, but do go into Jaywick for several reasons, the people are friendly polite nice accommodating and a delight to meet. It is a shame some of the shops and pubs in the Broadway have become shabby and and almost derelict, but whoever owns them be it the council or private, the council have the necessary powers and money, to make the area vibrant again. Even if it means taking legal action against the property owners/leaseholders to make them clean safe and tidy, or compulsory buy them and then sort them out.
It looks O.K. to me. Please name some quiet & clean hotels & guest houses, thzt are affordable.

Ozzies chippy is always decent food and the guy is always chaty and welcoming . The beaches are good also. Jw has improved alot over the last 7 yrs.
