In most modern phones, the 2x zoom is a physical lens. So you can get some really incredible cinematic shots with a phone using 2x and controlling the focus manually... granted it's not a 2.8 aperture at 400mm. But don't discount phones entirely as a tool.

To clarify - you can use any lens for whatever you want, but generally a telephoto like this would be used for sports/wildlife or some other form of action photography (another example would be airplanes) It is very interesting to use a longer lens like this for landscapes as well due to the heightened compression you get from the focal length. I'm actually interested in getting like a 150-600 for that purpose - my 70-200 doesn't always cut it tbh

it would've looked exactly the same if you stepped back a few feet with the iphone and used 3x zoom, and slapped portrait mode on it, then slightly darken it and turn down saturation a bit :)
Well...use the iPhone's telephoto lens, put it on portrait mode, do post in Lightroom, then post it to social media, then find out which picture is from where.
Photographers would be able to tell which was the iPhone based on the bokeh/compression. But yes, it would be a much closer photo comparison to a regular person.
A $17,000 lens is not needed to get the image produced here. It could be done with an 85mm F1.8 lens around the £150-200 (second hand) and you’d get similar if not better results… The 400mm lens is designed for outdoor nature photography and sports photography primarily. The widest you’re getting is F2.8 so this usually means shooting at higher iso if you want a shutter speed that also freezes the detail - usually meaning a noisier image or more work reducing noise post production. The 85mm lens going to F1.8 would allow lower iso and you don’t need to use a walkie talkie to communicate with your model
Exactly.. totally different framing of the subject, of course people will go for the a1 photo. I think most people would struggle to pick the difference in a RUclips short, if the images were composed equally.
You should use the same picture angle and the feature to blur the background on the iPhone. There is a lot of difference in the night but not so much for 5x8in pictures in full sunlight. A1 gathers much more light and can blur without tricks and has a higher resolution but you need pictures where you need this..

You should use the same picture angle and the feature to blur the background on the iPhone. There is a lot of difference in the night but not so much for 5x8in pictures in full sunlight. A1 gathers much more light and can blur without tricks and has a higher resolution but you need pictures where you need this..
Well it might be making a difference in real life but here on RUclips at 144 p I have started doubting on my own eyes 😂
