  • They all have to land ... sometimes it goes wrong!!!

    Thank you for your comment.
    You maybe forgot to read the video title. In this video I'd like to show, that sometimes things are going wrong even at skilled pilots. If you like to see them flying and landing in a good way, I invite you to watch some of my other videos.
    I am sure that even if you only have smaller airplanes, you had also terrible moments ... or am I wrong?
    Best regards, RCSA

    As the video title already mention ... this are only some "moments" of 2012. The good and perfect landings are shown in my other videos.
    Have fun and enjoy watching them. Best regards, RCSA

    Considering the difficult gusty wind conditions, most of these people did an admirable job of getting their planes on the ground with minimal or no damage. Great video, mate.

    It was my pleasure, mate. I was really impressed with that ME-109 pilot .. landing a real one was very challenging due to its narrow landing gear. This model pilot did far better than I imagined he would, under the circumstances.

  • @RCScaleAirplanes
    @RCScaleAirplanes  11 лет назад +2

    Thanks Steve for your great comment. The landing procedure of every pilot is very individual. In critical situations, there are different ways to get the airplane home safely.

    I think these guys don't need a flight sim. It was just a little bit of too strong wind during that air shows. If you watch my other vids, you can see, that they know how to fly and to land. This ☠ Moments shows what can happen even to skilled pilots.

    The landing of that ME-109 at 3:20 illustrates your point about landing warbirds on the paved runway very well. Those last second wing dips (crosswind?) can make for some nasty scrapes and broken landing gear very quickly. That warbird had some real difficulties with landings in real life due to their rather narrow mains. Although this vid does show some bad moments, it also reveals some lovely landings under less than ideal conditions. Thanks for this vid, RCSA.

    • @RCScaleAirplanes
      @RCScaleAirplanes  10 лет назад

      Thank you very much for your great comment, Bill.
      All shots with the paved runway are from the same event in France. There was a really heavy headwind (from the right side of the screen).
      You hit the nail on the head. Not every day is a birthday. Sometimes you must accept losses.

    I flew models airplanes for twenty-five years. It was my experience that GENERALLY, those who can build well can't fly well and those who fly well, don't build well. The two should team up.
    Fly, fly, fly and then fly some more. Fly in all kinds of weather. Touch and go and touch and go until you are sick to death of touch and go. Then, when you can grease in a landing in any weather, every time, go build your beautiful baby and fly her.!

  • @RCScaleAirplanes
    @RCScaleAirplanes  11 лет назад

    Thank you for your great comment !!! .
    All the images where shot during air shows. The pilots were not afraid to fly. The problem is always that they do not know the airfield. Due to the strong wind they are naturally more nervous than usual, It may happen that the landing does not work out as it was intended.
    This is only a summary of those "moments". The good landings of the same pilots are to be seen in my other videos.
    Best regards, RCSA

    Da muss ich Dir Recht geben. Ich bewundere und verneige mich immer wieder vor diesen Enthusiasten ... und bin froh, dass es sie gibt. Nicht auszudenken, wenn keiner den Mut und die Kraft hätte, solche schönen Modelle zu bauen und vor allem auch zu fliegen. Die Modellbauszene wäre längst zu einer Ausstellungsveranstaltung verkümmert.
    Dieses Video soll nicht das Unvermögen der Piloten darstellen, sondern die Tücken, mit denen sie zu Kämpfen haben.

    You're right Jean. The only thing is, that all these shots were done during different air-shows. Every one tried his best in order to keep on running the show. Many of the pilots are on the road for hours to be part of the show. As you can see, no plane got badly damaged ツ
    So every single flight was done for the audience.

    In most of the shots, there was a very strong headwind. At strong x-winds it's extremely difficult with these large-scale models to approach sideways to the runway, because there is not too many space.

  • @RCScaleAirplanes
    @RCScaleAirplanes  11 лет назад

    Thanks for your reply.
    I see, in AUS the rules are much harder then here.
    German rules: Up to a weight of less than 25 kg there is no technical inspection and the pilot don't have to make a "pilot's license". For models over 25 kg, it needs a technical acceptance and the pilot must pass a theoretical and practical examination.
    I've uploaded two videos of this procedure.

    Bücker Jungmeister - 60% Scale - Moki 400ccm

    I love watching PIO landings. I have a great one of a full sized glider student of mine. He managed to punch the main gear wheel up into the fuselage requiring a full rebuild of the wheel well and fiberglass insert frame. He paid for the repairs but the glider and very nice Grob 103 was down for several days not making any money.

    • @RCScaleAirplanes
      @RCScaleAirplanes  3 года назад

      There was a very strong headwind and therefore the pilot decided to land without flaps. The runway goes uphill and it would actually have been enough to fly flat and press the plane through the elevator onto the runway when touching down. Maybe better luck next time.

  • @RCScaleAirplanes

    What speed should a plane land at? Could it possibly be as slow as possible (at the point of stall)? Is the rudder ever useful in landing?

    • @ApplevalleyRC
      @ApplevalleyRC 4 года назад +1

      Not sure if this is a sarcastic joke or a question. But if it is a question then it varies on plane type, size, and powerplant. Jets for instance whether they are edf or turbine need a bit of speed and to hit the mains first or they will bounce. So in the instance of jets, you land not really with elevator, ailerons or rudder, but with throttle. War birds need mild speed depending on the model type and a somewhat soft touch down. All depends on the model style though (delta wing, bomber, biplane, etc)

    Thanks Bob. Flying a giant scale airplane does'nt mean that the pilot is a Pro. Of course they have some experience, but the nerves also plays a certain role. There is also another issue ... they are not on their home airfield and as you might noticed, at most of the clips were strong wind conditions.
    Nevertheless ... nobody is perfect.

    So, for those not familiar with the R/C hobby: there are builders, and there are flyers.
    The builders often wind up with big beautiful scratchbuilt planes that they cannot fly worth a darn. The flyers often wind up with off-the-shelf, ready-made ("ARF") planes that are not as beautiful, maybe, but which they can fly the crap out of - and would have no trouble landing in conditions like these.
    It's extremely rare to see one person that can both build and fly at a high level.
