I've found my energy flows in terms of how much output my brain has vs how receptive my brain is to input. There are times during the day where it's easier and times when it's harder for me to take in new or complex information, whether it's journalling, therapy, reading, etc.. Then, I have stages where it's easier and stages where it's harder for me to do things like write, speak, and produce things from my own brain. When I wake up, I find it much easier to have mental output. After lunch, it's much easier for me to take in new information and read. Into the evening, my mental output ramps up again until after dinner when it's easier to take in information. There are similarities with my physical energy too. It's made it a lot easier for me to know which tasks are easier to do.
I read somewhere --"schedule your energy not your time". This method is helpful for anyone who wants to understand how their brain functions. When are you at your best? When should do something less taxing? I am a older retired person who is studying languages. By tracking/monitoring my energy level I've learned when I will gain the most from lessons etc. Understanding your own energy level has a significant impact on how you get through a day. Thank you for sharing. It is really very helpful. 😄
As one in retirement, this is so helpful. I know I need a nap almost everyday in the early afternoon, talk about a trough! But I was wondering why during the mornings I could not sleep in, etc. It appears my rhythm is still in work mode. And that makes sense. Because I always needed that cup of coffee after lunch. Now I don't; I nap instead. But this all makes a ton of sense!!! Because I need a structured day of all that a day can entail, and a major planner, this will help with: "I know I planned to do this, but don't feel like it.", and procrastination.
Up until now I've been tackling the trough from a different angle, which is "eliminate the trough". Which is not really healthy, as it makes it really easy to judge myself for being in a trough in spite of my efforts ... I have a lot of meetings throughout the day but will experiment with this concept. Thanks for sharing!
This has been without a doubt the most helpful productivity video I've seen. It's going to be hard to put this into practice because I'm a teacher and I don't have control over that schedule. Which means I'm teaching in the middle of the trough, but perhaps I can schedule low energy activities for my class in those periods. Thanks!!
I think I've already watched something like this but you made it so clear, I've been trying to schedule small tasks that were instead really brain heavy and no wonder I could never bring myself to do them 💀
I’ve been tracking this a bit with my Garmin and diet. Trying to push the troff to the end of the day or forward to lunch. Not sure it will work but do notice the range. Great that you also put form to it.
Interesting video, and every time you say Danial Pink, I am back to Clara’s boyfriend in Doctor Who and the 12th Doctor. I usually do my work in a split shift. Morning for writing the thesis parts, and the evenings for working on formatting or simple edits. I just find having the midday open allows me to get some chores done during the day or shopping. Stores in Denmark do not stay open as late as those in the US

We appreciate your videos. They're helpful.
This video gives an excellent process for using energy levels for productivity. I especially have to honor my trough. Thanks ♥
This was genuinely helpful

Excellent! Wish I could use this more during regular times at work and not just during my time off in summer (hello teachers 👋)
Great topic - well done.
Hi! Do you have a video reviewing the focus planner? Thanks and grey video as usual ;)
The 90s called and they are psyched about your hair in the ad read! ❤
