I just ordered up the white Bluetooth version of this along with a mod kit for the Saturn controller. I can’t wait to play all the 2D games on my Switch with a proper Sega controller!
8bitdo makes good stuff. I'm very happy with the controllers I've purchased from them. It's a niche market so it's great for us retro guys that this company exists. *Edit* The McDonald's Genesis game is pretty good. Good to see you giving it love.
Same. They make high quality gamepads. They're not cheap feeling, they feel great and I use them all with my switch. I keep buying them, even though I don't really need them. But it feels wrong to play mega drive classics on the switch on anything else but this. I had to buy it
Love 8bit do. High quality. Just purchased one of their bluetooth adapters for my NES. It's nice to play the games wirelessly. Thanks for the great content, Sega Lord X!
After receiving mine. I tested it on Switch and PC on any type of game that does not require an analog stick (Vs Fighting, 2D Platform, Beat'em Up, Shoot'em up). This controller is wonderful. The touch is very nice. The grip is perfect. The feeling is very good. The buttons respond well. The buttons L and R are well arranged. Special mention for the D-Pad, it does not hurt the thumb, special attacks, and combos come out perfectly. This is the best controller for games that do not require an analog stick. If you need to play with the 2 analog sticks, then take the "SF30 Pro Gamepad".
Can you press down on the dpad to press all four directions, I've been assuming all of the m30's do that since I got mine over a year ago, its been really annoying in an otherwise amazing controller
@@luckyluke95 ok thanks, I've read some things about some other people having that problem, but yeah mine has it and it causes me to miss inputs, I can push the whole thing in like a big button, it registered as a stick with the way its set up and on my controller viewer I can see its pushing all directions
I mainly bought the controller for the NINTENDO Switch just to play fighting games and retro arcade games! It works great for Street Fighter games but it's not advised to work with game requiring analog sticks like Super Smash Bros Ultimate of any FPS games! Thank you 8 bit do!
It looks beautiful and sounds like it works like a charm. Interesting to see how the wireless controllers from Retrobit are going to hold up. Thanks for the exceptional review.
Despite saying he doesn't want to use wired controllers anymore, I'd still like to see SLX review the about to be released Retrobit wired controllers. Looking forward to the wireless ones later this year too (especially the ones with dual analogue sticks added)
ICYMI the minus button is the mode button. I love the 2 Bluetooth models I pre-ordered, work great for PC Engine 6-button games on the ShieldTV as well.

Very nice. I have mine coming in tommorrow off amazon. Ive been looking for a rapid fire sega saturn controller for a while. Being wireless and working easily on PC is a huge plus. Since I play everything from Wii and below on emulation. Looks like the pad will be up to par and no discernible lag sounds good.
Cool! I've gotten this controller yesterday as i'm a big 8bitdo fan. I've chosen the bluetooth version as i wanted to use the controller not only with my Megadrive, but also on the Switch and android systems. Works fantastic, although on the Switch the layout of the buttons is a bit backwards. I bought the bluetooth receiver to use it on both my Megadrive and Retron 5, i tested it on the latter and ik works perfect! Great controller and indeed it has the best d-pad ever (just like the original 6 button controller).
Either we're on the same fb groups or you're just that good. I was literally asking about this last week for the retropie because I needed a 6 button wireless controller.
This is good to hear. And I know you'd notice if it felt significantly different in use. In my opinion, good d-pads have become less common, even on first-party controllers. I like 8-Bitdo's stuff, but I always preferred the Sega Saturn button layout, so it's nice to see them and other companies with these new products and that they're getting such good reviews.
I prefer original hardware over emulation, and I’m usually skeptical of third party controllers. That being said, wireless controllers are wonderful for those of us with gaming setups of several consoles. 8BitDo did a great job with their nes and snes controllers, so I’m glad to see them address the Genesis.
8bitdo's M30 2.4 Wireless controllers are the best i've ever experienced with the Mega Drive. I have 5 of them now and they're very strong, I cleaned the gunk out of mine with rubbing alcohol, water, window glass cleaner and even sanitiser, I thought I wrecked it as it disabled itself completely for 2 days. It wouldn't even connect with the receiver, but then after some time the buttons started responding again until the controller worked to full capacity and the buttons aren't sticky anymore. I guess the residue dried up enough on the board that it was able to function again. Next time though I will just get a cotton bud and rub the alcohol round the actual button with the gunk and sticky response instead of parctically submerging it in all sorts of cleaning liquids.
I'm Impressed nice review bud. Made me feel at home with the bluetooth purchase of this. but I can't wait for retro-bit saturn analog stick wireless coming this year on a side note. but i'm glad for this little beauty i'll grab the mobile clamp and see if it's cool to play on the go. Anyways Good review thanks.
Excellent. That's good enough for me - I really want a pair of wireless MD controllers. I'll probably get one of these, and one Bluetooth that I can also use elsewhere.
it's a little disappointing that the d-pad presses down in the center, and I miss the dots on the y and b buttons, but I've really got to hand it to them on the case ergonomics and rock-solid wireless functionality on the 2.4g version.
I don't get it the lack of a pivot point either--rounded bumps shouldn't be hard to figure out--but considering price, this one is still an exceptional value. It just can't do fighting games well. At least it doesn't have noticeable lag (at least, for me), which would pretty much cut all action games out. My previous 8bitdo controller had lag issues, so I had reduced expectations already.
I wonder if that would work with other 9pin d imput consoles like atari and 8 bit computers. Would be good if they also released a dongle for the saturn
Looking at the thumbnail made me think it was s saturn gamepad initially. Seems awesome! Getting for sure. What was that second song in the background? After the Batman song I believe?
I have both 2.4g and Bluetooth versions. They are fantastic. They both passed my Street Fighter test. I play it on high setting and I can beat it without continues. All special moves are executed perfectly.
Alright, I was hoping you would talk about this controller! I've seen reviews popping up all over the place and of course it's the usual "highly questionable" people doing them (literally the same group of people who say there is nothing wrong with AtGames Genesis clone systems). Thanks for putting out even more content, a great review, and talking about things that are killing me because I cant buy them!

Hey @Sega Lord X, I just bought the M30 and the Retro Receiver, however I can't get it to work on the Master System (I have the OG 1988 built-in Hang-On Safari Hunt model). Is there anything special you did to make it work? It really bums me out it isn't working. Your video is 4 years old, I wonder if a controller or receiver update broke SMS compatibility since then...
The other 8bitdo controllers are also really high quality. I have the SNES30 and I can barely tell it apart from the original. Also I laughed because Bloodlines is the first game I tried when I got the Genesis one too.
I bought the krikzz pad shortly before this was announced. It's great, but I think I might've preferred to save the extra cash, given the positive reviews this one has been getting.
I can't believe any of you guys reviewing these 8-bitdo m30s don't mention the fact that there's no ball bearing to Pivot sure doing a sonic boom is quite easy however try doing a flash kick with accuracy. It's practically mandatory to put a 5/32 ball bearing underneath the d-pad so it will actually pivot and not press all four directions at once.
Does this work for the PS4? Also you plugged this into your Sega Master system. I just want to know does it work with Wonder Boy in Monster land & if so does it work if you plug it into a Genesis & play Wonder Boy in Monster land on the Genesis without the Master system controller?
does M30 allow link/party play? i always gave the 3rd party controllers to my friends while we played 6-man saturn bomberman on projector ~10 years ago...

Yeah the price is good, the cost gap between wired and wireless grows ever smaller. Mostly I like the direction Microsoft first took on 360 with the cord to charge model as it kept you playing without wasting money on new batteries and gave new purpose to cables again IE. best of both worlds. What do L&R do, I'm guessing they are there for general multi-platform usage but not Genesis related?
On the 2.4ghz Genesis version, the L/R act as C/Z.
Best $30 controller
Pretty sweet controller, SLX 🖒
Out of curiosity, which games could you utilise the shoulder buttons in?
Or are they there to use with emulators etc?
The shoulder buttons are mapped as C and Z. So you can use them for anything as long as the game uses it.
Still waiting a Neo geo CD gamepad from 8bitdo
The overall shape of this pad is reminiscent of those controllers in my opinion.
@@geoffreychauvin1474 Geoffrey Chauvin indeed but i love de idea of a digital stick with dip switches (and the oficial neo geo CD controllers for the NG mini are crap compared to the original)
here i feel a lot of drop signal...millisecounds....but sometimes the button do not respond...or directional...not buy much, but sometimes is suffitient to die....
I have the first USB 2.4g one, for the clone console sega licensed, the dpad can be pushed straight down, is this a thing on all of them, I've had it for over a year and just assumed they all suck in that regard
The newer white version now has a pivot
@@HollowRick on mine the part was there, it was just too short, I could press down and register all directions at once, also the dpad registered as a joystick and left was at a slight diagonal
I love my m30, but it constantly disconnects and starts flashing from my cell phone.
I've never had disconnect issues with the Sega Genesis version. It's been rock solid.
Way better than RetroBit aka RetroShit, Dpad 👌👌
Wish it had grips
Will this work on a saturn?
2nd SLX in 24!
