Bought one $104 tried 8bit do Mario brick dongle won't pick up Xbox one controller.
HI amazon wont ship to the UK , can i get the controllers somewhere else ?
ETA PRIME when are you going to show a SEGA genesis mini hack/ add more games ??
ETA PRIME how do you set it up for retroarch for hackchi
8Bitdo are killing with all the great controllers they are making.
They went all out on the retro concept with these. Its pretty cool that the controllers are wireless meaning its way easier to play around with.
I use these almost everyday since purchasing it two years ago and they're great.
I love these little 8bitdo pads, brings so much memories!
I've been using one of these with my japanese Mega Drive v1, with an RGB Scart converter. Works like a charm, just like in your video. Thanks for sharing!
This 8Bitdo company wow I'm so glad they exist!
"I can get right down on it" - ETA PRIME 2019
You're always putting out amazing content.
would have liked to see tests with other hardware to see if the controller works well on things besides genesis mini. might pick one up if they have nice compatibility and response time.
MiSTer Walrus FPGA They are compatible with more systems. This is the same M30 But instead of Bluetooth you get 2.4 ghz. So you need the included dongle and a USB port to plug it. So no mobiles for example.
This has less input lag and better range.
you can get an adaptor for the og Genesis that uses those controllers, but the controllers work on Nintendo Switch, PC, Mac and Raspberry Pie
M30 is a wonderful controller and the best thing 8bitdo ever did after the horrendous sn30 pro. Still, i have a pro plus in the mail and am hoping it is what reviewers such as yourself say it to be (i hated the d pad on the sn 30 pro, i have the G edition, hoping pro plus is better). The d pad on the official nintendo switch online snes pads is great. Got them today.
For those asking the new USB-C version 2.4ghz works on Windows 11 PC wireless via their USB dongle.
You just have to remap the buttons on each emulator and works flawlessly!
I just got the black USB-C 2.4ghz and tested on my Windows 11 PC!

ABSOLUTELY BARBARIC
The controllers seems to play very well i going to give it a try because i caught my cat trying gnaw on the controller cord lol
not everybody knows, this controller also works with the Astro City Mini. I bought a couple of them for just that reason. They work great with the Genesis Mini too, of course -- except I still have to figure out how to map them in Retroarch.
Great review on the controller. I am a huge fan of the Genesis. I picked up the Genesis mini over the weekend. I find the games to be very pixelated. I have played with an emulator and find the graphics better. I even played the original at a yestercade.
More than likely your emulator is using Bi-linear filtering. I don't recall the options in the graphics menu on the mini, but I believe you can do the same on the mini.
Very helpful. Thank you for the video.
That's the controller Sega should have had on there in the first place.
Only the Saga Megadrive mini of Asia comes with the 6 button controllers out of the box. The US and European versions only come with the 3 button controllers.
i'm gonna get a couple of these and solder them in internally to the mini itself ;)
Hope that project went well! That's a nice idea.
I got the BlueTooth version of it for my PC and love it.
I just want to note that whoever made the preset for RetroArch got the key binds all wrong, especially when playing Sega games with it, i had to dig into the RA config files myself to get it working right and that was fiddely to no end... actually i'm only half way done with it, i needed a reference for the 6 button layout and only knew a 3 button game well enough to test it out... thanks for telling me which buttons go where in streetfighter ;P
This is my only issue with them. Trying to do CP System fighting games was a hassle to get the mapping correct.
Glad I'm not the only one that had issues
For the CP System it goes Medium, Weak, Strong for both punches and kicks. It's a little more intuitive in MAME, but I forget exactly how I did it.
I'm thinking of getting the for my switch as i was not a Sega kid very much as a kid so i don't feel paying 50 for the one Nintendo made is justified, but i still want to have a Sega style controller to play the sega games
8bitdo pads are the best.
edit: thank you so much ETA prime for the heart 😊
Gonna say 8bitdo is one of those rare Chinese companies that are doing good stuff
What is the difference/benefit to using the 2.4g vs. The Bluetooth version of these controllers?
Less lag.
Not sure if the bluetooth version works with the mini.
Alright... I don't like showing support for sort of no name company's products, but these sound absolutely fantastic!
Hardly a "no name" company, very well known and highly respected manufacturer of controllers.
@@ericlered Hence, "...sort of..."
You seem to have missed what was directly in front of you. Always fun to attack others, I guess?
Did you mean to suggest 8bitdo is equal to Hori, Brook, Sanwa (components), Seimitsu (components), Logitech, Thrustmaster, Qanba, Saitek, etc? By comparison to those I feel confident in my previous statement.
@@monkeymanstones1 Hey, no attack intended, just thought it worth mentioning that 8bitdo have a very good reputation over the last couple of years. There are reviewers out there saying there new SN30 Pro+ controller is better than the official Nintendo Pro one for the Switch for example. And the M30 version for the OG Megadrive / Genesis released a few months ago has been widely praised, even so far as for Analogue to officially endorse them for the Mega SG.
@@ericlered I actually threw in one to "have at" in my last response (Saitek is now owned by Logitech [at least I think Logitech was the buyer] so not it's own company and nearly nothing is produced under it's once exceptional name).
I’m personally not a big fan with the look of those controllers. In mid October I believe Retro-Bit are coming out with more authentic Japanese style looking wireless controllers. However I would be interested in an 8BitDo black version of bluetooth receiver for use with the Dualshock 4.
8bitdo controllers are awesome
Could you now do a video where you pair these with a Sega mini that is running RetroArch and then do a button mapping in RetroArch?
there is only the usb dongle for everyone already own the 2.4ghz with the megadrive dongle?
I'd like to know too.
@@kristophermann6528 maybe it could be compatible with the mayflash usb adapter but i don't have received megadrive mini yet so i cannot say anything about it.
@@pam8352 did a little research -- there's a brown USB adapter and a gray one available now. The brown does Switch/Windows and the gray does PS Classic/Switch/Windows -- so the new black one (avail. 10/18) will likely support Genesis Mini/Switch/Windows. Q: Will 8BitDo sell them loose w/o the controller? A: Highly likely -- 1. They are in business to make money, a sale is a sale. 2. The gray/brown sell loose currently.
I have 2 8BitDo 2.4gz controllers for my Analogue SG, if I buy a retro adapter (now) will this setup work w/ the mini?
Yes. You can buy an 8bitdo usb adapter that will work :)
And will it work with the PC?
Do you prefer these or Saturn style controllers?
Why do I get a Sega Saturn vibe when looking at the M30 controllers? Maybe because the look a lot like the Saturn controllers?
Hello, what kind of emulation are you using ? Looks pretty nice, also the controller buttons looks to be situated right, as in the original console, not like retropi. I'm still trying to figure out how to fix them, since I'm using only genesis games with retroflag controllers.
I would consider buying this controller if 8BitDo would make the 2.4Ghz receiver work on PC. But they've told me it's not currently a feature and I'm not sure if it ever will be.
Thankfully, RetroBit is making fully licensed Sega Genesis and Saturn controllers with PC-compatible 2.4Ghz receivers. So, I'll be buying those instead.
Sadly, Bluetooth is simply too unreliable and laggy for gaming. Dedicated wireless dongles are much better.
Yeah I need to get the receiver to use on my original genesis model 2 that is hooked to my 13 inch crt tv lol.
@@FlintG Nice. These controllers are great, if you're going the full old school route. But I'm an emulation enthusiast, so I play everything on Windows/Android.
Great video as always.
Just still so quiet, my phone is at max and still hard to hear. Just watched a video from another channel and the volume on my phone was sub half.
The handles should have been a bit longer.
It would have been more comfortable in the hands and have more sega genesis identity
What great little monitor is that you are using?
mine did not just plug in and play, it syncs but no registering of any inputs.
Chris Dimitriadis Mine is doing the same. It syncs but none of the buttons function.
@@badhombreretrogamer6647 yeah i also noticed if you hold L+R while you power it it seems to go into some weird mode, still doesnt work, but the left led blinks green along with the right led blinking blue. maybe an update mode?
Chris Dimitriadis Yeah, L+R+Start puts the controller in update mode. If I figure it out, I’ll let you know. Otherwise, I might return the controller. It might be defected or it might need an update. I haven’t seen any updates for this particular controller yet.
Bad Hombre Retro Gamer I’m hoping the updater tool will be updated to include support for it soon.
@@t3rr0rdactyl I was able to contact 8bitdo support via email in regards to this issue with the none functional buttons. They sent me 3 updates to try and fix the problem. Here's what they said in the email.
"Thanks for the e-mail. I'm here to assist you.
Please try these steps:
1.Plug the receiver to GEN/MD mini.
2.Press START to turn-on the M30 2.4G controller.
3.Hold the MINUS (-) of the controller for 3sec to enter pairing mode.
4.Wait until receiver and controller are paired.
-----------------------
After pairing.
Please connect the receiver to PC.
Press START to turn-on the M30 2.4G controller.
Hold L+R and MINUS (-) of the controller for 5sec.
What is the version number of the flash disk?
Please screenshots.
Kind regards"
After that they sent me 3 firmware updates to try out. One worked for me. It was firmware V3.09. The controllers buttons now work.
I tied to attach the firmware's to the comments here, but it doesn't work.
perfect for some retropie arcade action. #8bitdom30
The joystick works better with project lunar installed. Is that what you said?
I had these controllers for acouple of months so not sure about them being pre order? Also I wouldn't say they were made for the genesis mini. They are intended for the original Megadrive for which they work flawlessly, easily my favourite controller.
That's what I thought. Pre-order?!? But the ones that did came out earlier were made for the consoles and the dongle were not USB. I guess 8bitdo included the USB dongle version to go with the mini. Also not all USB controllers will work with the mini. 8bitdo must have added compatibility in the USB dongle.
why you didnt say how to set turbo modes for the buttons? does turbo modes works actually. 8bit do site say it has!
I have the m30 controller for my raspberry pi and original model 2 genesis. I hope to get the genesis mini soon but not sure if I need one since I have the mega pi case as well. I wonder if there is going to be a hack for the genesis mini to add every game to it.
Hello 👋🏽 will this controller work for the original genesis/mega drive?
Yesssss!
The link didn't generate ... This won't be released until the 18 of October
Fixed thanks for the heads up amzn.to/2oLyn3L
The M30 is a Saturn style controller, isn't it so?
Is there a BT adapter for the MegaDrive Mini also?
Because I have 8bitdo's SN30 and SN30 Pro.
I wish they would make the dongles much smaller
I want to purchase this but I heard there are connectivity issues and you have to do a firmware update before it's usable. Is that true ?
I have a Bluetooth M30 and retro receiver for my model 1 genesis. Can I use the USB plug on the retro receiver to use my M30 on the Genesis Mini? I also have nintendo classic, NES and snes retro receivers
BlightDemon same, would like to know that, too!
can't speak for the sega genesis retro receivers specifically (used with USB cable).
But the USB wireless adapter (originally marketed for Switch and PSclassic) currently doesn't work with my 8bitdo DIY 6 button controller on the Sega classic. Here's hoping 8bitdo release a firmware update for all of their bluetooth receivers to improve compatibility soon, though.
Does the genesis mini's controller work with other things like android for example? Would love to play the updated versions of classic sonic with it.
The Bluetooth ones do.
I have the bluetooth version. Does this work the same if I get a separated dongle?
The D-pad is outstanding, feels like a brand-new 6-button Genesis/Saturn controller.
Bluetooth version is the way to go, and can be wired by USB-C.
Can I use this controller with its adapter on Neogeo Stick Pro?
still waiting for the pro version with analog sticks
Seim.
Can the 8bitdo Sega Genesis 6 button controller compatible with the Xbox One? Just curious before I decide to pick one up.
Do you think there would be an issue with these controllers interfering with 2.4Ghz WiFi networks?
I also think you should review the AT Games version of the Mega Drive / Genesis (if you haven't already). Seems to be more feature rich and had more thought go into it.
Just about everything ATGames is total trash. I'm glad they weren't allowed near this project.
@@wwallo have to disagree.. the latest offering was a good attempt.. the features are good too. Their original releases were bad but this new ish one is good. But unless you own one it's hard to realise.
@@xcon3k I've had it with AtGames' attempts. Their products will never come near my gameroom again. With their latest installments the ideas are nice, the execution isn't. AtGames doesn't even deserve being seriously mentioned anymore.
Sega sacked AT from any involvement with this due to the terrible reputation of previous efforts and used M2 who are widely regarded as the best in the business for emulation quality and attention to detail.
How long is the power cabals that come with it?
How did you get the Sega Genesis to play on that computer
Retroflag controllers checked?
Controllers look cool I wonder if I can use it on the PS4.
You'll need an adapter. Cheapest one is the Mayflash Magic-S, $20-25.
Can the usb dongle be purchased separately? I have the other 2.4ghz model meant for the original genesis model. I’d love to use that controller on my raspberry pie too.
I have not seen it sold separately yet.
8BitDo told me directly that this 2.4Ghz version of this controller will NOT work wirelessly on PC/Android/Mac. You either have to use a USB cable or buy the Bluetooth version.
Brandon Campbell that’s a shame, I’m a fan of how simple 2.4 ghz controllers are to setup, getting Bluetooth controllers working on several devices is a huge pain.
Can you use it on other devices like the M!ster, rpi, or a pc?
It behaves exactly as a 6 button megadrive mini controller and because of it is recognized as a 6 button directinput controller on windows. No support for native xinput but you can make it work with steam. No idea with raspberry though.
@@xNaceryx and what about input lag on pc?
will this work on a PC?
@Kuanlim Jappendi
Thanks for the iinfo. I'll be using it on Win10. Yeah I dont mind if the wireless connection is buggy. I'll go to your usb cable route
I pick 4.3 on the sega but it still looks stretched out unless i also pick 4.3 on my tv but then all the menus turn to 4.3 as well and then the the games go a little smaller but look better anyone have any ideas
Is there a way to play m30 2.4g on macOS ? coz I just bought this one instead m30 accidentally, and now I can't play even using usb cable :(
Should I install windows on my MacBook, or use vm ?
Any help appreciated
How you get them early ??? 😔😔
man I liked this controller until I used it a lot and the D pad hurts the crap out of my thumb
can u please discribe the problem a bit more specific? having CTS such things are vital to know...
@@Niratias-n8p The D Pad hurts my thumb, I just bought the official Sega controller and the D Pad doesn't hurt my thumb on that one. And also I feel like the 8bitdo one has a lag and delay but it could be my TV settings. I still have my 8bitdo controller in great condition with the packaging if you want to buy it for cheap
Does this work with the Genesis AT games 2013 console?
Please... can you tri it on Astrocity?
Wonder if these work on the PS Classic?
ETA did the video on 8bitdo adapter for PS Classic, I believe that every 8bitdo controller is compatible with it.
Does this work on PC/Mac/ raspberry pi? It only says genesis mini and switch on site
@@blanjon581 I don't own one so never found out
What monitor screen is that?
Do these work with Android and iOS devices?
Not wirelessly. I asked a rep from 8BitDo about this and they said you either can use this 2.4Ghz version with a USB cable or you have to buy the Bluetooth version.
Do they sell these sega controllers for a pc?
You can buy the 8bitdo M30 bluetooth version, it works with PC
Know any wireless controllers for Super Retrocade????
Are there firmware updates needed on these?
yes, but updating them is a little different.
The system needs to be hacked before I would consider investing any more money into this system.
That going to happen regardless no reason not to get the system already haha
It is already hacked but the hack still needs some tweaking.
Some dude even made the system image with all games work on the SNES Classic Mini.
@@MegaManNeo It get perfected in no time just like the nes and snes did doesn't take long at all.
@@Graffitiluva Pretty sure it will!
My hope next to Project Lunar will be that we all can load the MD Mini system onto the SNESC too so we can triple boot.
Nice... I went an got the bluetooth one a few weeks back. so does that means I can't use it with the Genesis Mini ?
Yes, it won't work because the mini doesn't have Bluetooth.
Do they come with batteries ?
Built in, rechargeable
If it only had analog sticks.
Anyone knows if the orange 8bitdo adapter works in ps classic?
I can test it out tomorrow but they do make a PS classic adapter also
It should, but may need a firmware update depending on age.
yes
I have a Joyretro wireless controller for PS Classic that works great and costs about $15 on Amazon.
Do these work on the Mega Sg? Or is it the same controller with a different receiver? Wish you could’ve disclosed this?
Same controller different adapter.
😁😁😁👍👍👍
Dongle looks longer than Genesis ones.
Does this works on Raspberry Pi and PC ?
Yes it does
@@ETAPRIME Not wirelessly. They have to be connected via USB cable. Otherwise, your other option is to get the Bluetooth version, but Bluetooth is awful for gaming.
@@Thrashman138 Are you sure youre not getting things mixed up? That should be true for the 2.4Ghz version with the sega connector on the dongle. This is a new version with usb dongle.
@@realx3m Unless the 8BitDo representative I talked to was misinformed or lying to me, that's what they said.
Funny thing about this new system compared with the AT Games system is it doesn't have wireless controllers and you can use the original game cartridges in it.. I was going to point this out on your last video but seeing this made me laugh.. to make this new system slightly better you have to spend more money. I own the AT Games system and I have this one one on order but I have a feeling the AT Games system will be used more.
Lol. Poor emulation, no attention to details, cheap build quality, a large chunk of bad games...
@@wwallo still for the money can't be laughed at. I have one and it's not mega bad.. and the fact it has a useable slot for cartridges and an SD card reader that let's you play roms is a big bonus. So I give it a thumbs up.
@@xcon3k For that amount you're better off buying a Pi to play your ROMs. My original carts I play on the original hardware + CRT. Like most people in the retro scene, I say Atgames has screwed up too many times to be taken serious anymore.
@@wwallo The wife got it me.. gift like and even I was skeptical so didn't really cost me anything but I get what you mean and I own a raspberry pi as well.. but for the plug and play no bs messing factor the AT Games mega drive is good. But I'm talking about the dark blue box version not the cheap looking one. Out of interest do you own the one I'm talking about or owned and used one for a length of time?
@@xcon3k You're literally the only person I have ever come across who doesn't think any of the AT efforts are absolutely trash. They have a terrible reputation.
Is it ios compatible?
I feel like you're just trollin' with all this "low punch" "high punch" nonsense at this point. I've seen many people correct you in the comments that it's Light Medium Heavy.
Are you trolling? The original Genesis Street Fighter II manual lists them as "light, medium, hard."
That's fine. Heavy/Hard or Fierce are considered synonymous and correct. "Low" and "High" punch are more than incorrect; they're misleading, as there is nothing "low" about a standing jab for example.
Does it work on android?
yes. The BT ones
Wait the 2.4g version comes with a USB adapter?
Yes, that's how 2.4ghz works for controllers.
Think I could use these with my Raspberry Pi / Blast 16 build?
It definitely works with the raspberry pi but I haven’t tested it on the Blast
@@ETAPRIME that's good enough for me. I'm definitely going to pick up a pair. 8bitdo has always made solid products
Unless 8BitDo made changes or their rep lied to me, you cannot use the 2.4Ghz version of this controller wirelessly on anything but the Genesis Mini. They told me in order to use them on PC/Android/Mac you either need a USB cable or you have to buy the Bluetooth version of the controller.
Do your d-pads squeak and feel brittle when you press down hard?
not at all

Couldn't you just sync the BT M30 with the new dongle (or old dongle with new dongle firmware) & get the same results..?
Great stuff if you don't know where to throw away your easily earned money at your work 👌😉
I wonder if you can just use a ps4 dual shock 4 controller anyone know ?
You should, considering the controller connects to the dongle just like 8-bitdo's controllers do.
amazon feedback says it loses connection and need firmware upgrade ?
8bitdo sega controller with a usb dongle!? Does the SN30 Pro+ come in a version with usb dongle?
