  • I recently purchased a 1999 Suzuki RMX250 for $750. the bike is a little rough and missing some things, but serves as a good base for a rebuild project. My plan is to transform this dirt bike into a road legal rm250 replica.
This is my 1999 Suzuki RMX250 dirt bike that I'm rebuilding to be a road legal rm250 replica!

Greetings from Mexico, I have a 1989 RMX, it is an excellent motorcycle, mine has inverted suspension. I use it for Enduro, I'm teaching myself on it.

SWEET...just found your channel because I have a 92 ( I think/ it has a blue frame which i LOVE but I haven't pulled VINS to verify) RMX in need of complete rebuild/restore. Its in my shed in pieces right now. I paid 800 for mine and it was running when I got it. After a lot of right hand throttle twisting fun, it lost a bearing in the bottom end and starting smoking like a freight train. Hope to rebuild this bike back to its former glory because it was so fun to ride.

@@jackkellybuilds I’m looking at getting a bigger bike I’ve had an 85 and a 250 4t but want something different and I’m looking at the rmx’s not sure you’ve ridden yours but would you recommend?

I haven't ridden mine yet, but I've ridden other 250 two strokes and they have a ton of power, not quite as much as a 450, so maybe a 250 2t or a 350 4t would be a good option for you.

Get yourself a cheap USB bore scope, they're very handy for a quick look into a cylinder etc :-)

I remember when these came out 89 I think I wanted one real bad but I rode a ton of them over the years and I never liked them very weak on power and odd ergonomics. I wanted it to be more than it was I guess I was hoping for a more race ready woods bike than my XRs but it just wasn’t what I had hoped. I have always wondered why the Japanese don’t build woods bikes with the same quality as race bikes KTM is proving it to be a very viable and popular option.

I have yet to ride my RMX but I'm hoping because this bike is based off the 96-00 rm250's the ergonomics will have been sorted out.

Bit of advice if this is anything like most 80s and 90s Suzuki’s go through and replace all the hardware with grade 8 stuff Suzuki always skimped out and used cheap hardware that break and strip so easy.

also make sure you clean the pink junction connector, its always full of crap and causes random electrical issues

I have a 2000 RM250 that has the internal water pump. By any chance would you know if the Rmx 250 bottom end fits the 2000 RM250? Appreciate any info on this.

I don't know for sure, but I doubt it would be the same, best way to find out is by cross checking part numbers
