    One of my biggest tips would be know how to read the water and the beach I used to be one of those guys that would just blind cast and experienced anglers would be pulling out monster bull reds and I just couldnt figure it out. And if you are near a seawall use it lol. I went to a old spot yesterday havent fished it in years and I used to just launch everybait I could think of to the middle of this fast channel never caught. Yesterday I went to this spot and threw a d.oa shrimp and Chartreuse Gulp swimming mullet and a gold glitter d.o.a shrimp parallel right along the seawall and within 2 hours hooked up with 3 reds and two stripers one of the Stripers was 24 inches not a keeper here but better than the 15 inchers I was pulling out of the channel. In fast water the seawalls are like a buffet for fish. The current sweeps bait right up against it and the big uns shoot right out of the current to check em out. Reading the beach now brings me fish everytime I head out. Troughs, riplines and holes can all be seen by the way the water is pulling out and tips of waves.

    My #1 tip for serious beginners. Read a lot of books, there's a lot out there. Knowledge is your best fishing tool.
    Then a lot of fishing time...a lot.

    • @ChrisCatchesFish
      @ChrisCatchesFish 7 лет назад +1

      Tony Hong Fishing what's a book you'd recommend

    • @coolvid
      @coolvid 7 лет назад +3

      ChrisCatchesFish ... it really depends on what fish you're targeting. I'm up here in the northeast (NY/NJ). Striped Bass, Fluke (Flounder), Bluefish, weakfish (sea trout) dominate the scene.
      I would suggest any book from these authors-
      John Skinner
      Frank Daignault
      Zeno Hromin
      Nick Karas
      DJ Muller
      William "Doc" Muller
      ...and even subscribe to local fishing magazines. They often have "how to" articles on the latest tactics or rehash old forgotten ones.
      Every fish is different on how you go about catching them, best to look for authors that are experts in their field.
      It's given me a huge head start when I first started and knew absolutely nothing. Although I've had experience in freshwater, saltwater was, and still is challenging and is a never ending learning process which is what I love about the sport.

    Hey. I've been fishing the banks and shores of the Gulf Coast most of my life. From Brownsville, all the bays all the way to Floridas Gulf Coast, and most points in between. I've spent most of my time here on earth, fishing. The rest of my time I pretty much wasted.... you know, working. *wink.
    I've watched a lot of these videos, thinking I might learn something new. Old dogs CAN learn new tricks. You have produced the best video on catching the big three, specks, flounder and Reds. I know, you didn't mention them specifically, but if these good folks listen to what you have to say, their chances will go way up. Good job sir.

    I'd like to add that a chum bag is not just for boat use. Before I bought my boat, I would catch lady fish from the bank (sometimes pin fish), here in north west Florida, chop them up into small bloody chunks and put them in a chum bag. And in about 10 minutes, I would turn a basically barren spot into a spot were I was catching red fish and flounder literally every cast. Great video by the way, and I hope this helps your viewers.

    • @zhp500
      @zhp500 7 лет назад

      Inexpensive chum bag. ladies hose. Another way working a shore spot is to mix the chum into mud clumps,...the only thing is have to do in advance and let them dry out. Don't have either one and want to go fishing, dry cat food or dog food, just toss out in the area you are going to be working.
      Just remember to not leave torn up hose when your done.

    • @cavazosa4

      Charles Woodard can you explain what type of chum bag you use and do you chop up the fish and let it soak in the water next to you? Do you have a link to the chum bag? What's you favorite way to catch pin fish?

    • @charleswoodard3312
      @charleswoodard3312 7 лет назад

      @Alejandro, I use just a simple net sporting bag with a draw string, like the ones use to hold basket balls and such. You can pick one up at walmart. And yes, if you are fishing from the bank, just put the pin fish or whatever in the bag ( be sure to use sizable chunks, so they wont just slip through the mesh) secure the draw string to a rock on the bank. My fav way to catch pins is with a sabiki rig.

    • @joereyes5520
      @joereyes5520 7 лет назад +5

      Rodney Crisp good suggestion, however if you're targeting a certain species. You're bound to catch everything but it, since every fish in the ocean has eaten shrimp sometime in their lifetime.

    • @ECHO4CH4RL13
      @ECHO4CH4RL13 7 лет назад +1

      i agree! also buying small amounts of live bait can help serve as a scouting tool to see what fish are at certain spots. everything eats a shrimp, and i like them live because i can feel them kick on my line when they get nervous.

    • @edwardlucksful
      @edwardlucksful 3 года назад

      I take a heavy set up and a light set up, throw shrimp on the light setup, I've found I catch mostly small fish on the shrimp. I then use the small fish for bait on my heavy rod. Usually lady fish and such. It's also nice to have something medium heavy to throw lures around. I like to stay active.

    I’m a pretty solid bass fisherman because I’ve put in the time learning how to fish for bass specifically a good mindset to have while fishing is that your gathering intel on the craft and the area that being said I’ve been to the coast to fish jetty’s and try surf fishing, 3 trips 1 fish so far it can be frustrating but keep trying until you hit a groove. I like this video because it’s realistic info that will help beginning anglers and experienced ones like me moving into salt water vs fresh

    Very good summary, I especially like that you reinforce fishing moving water and STRUCTURE which is key to most species you will encounter from shore. I'd say also, when you hit the tackle shop ask for some tips, what's biting and what is working that day. More than likely you will encounter someone willing to help out. I think anglers like if you genuinely are curious and want to improve, rather than buying the walmart special and tossing it out at the end of the day.

    I've been striking blanks for almost 3 months now (except for that one tiny little sea bass, that I had to put back for obvious reasons) and started thinking that I was doing something very wrong. Tried all the tricks in the book, to no avail. Turns out that even the pro's with many years of experience are getting blanks for weeks in a row now. Except during night time, then the occasional flatfish will pop up from time to time, but nothing big enough to even drop in the hot pan. It's been hot and dry weather for months now (heat wave) and it's affecting the fish too big time. Hopefully some rain will fall from the sky soon, with a good drop in temperatures too. Doesn't have to get cold by all means, but NORMAL weather would be fun for a change. LOL
    PS: Belgium here.
    Cheers.

    as always, excellent video and solid advice broseph. Im commenting in the middle of the video, so forgive me if you end up mentioning something about this! It's also good to look for birds, as they're a good indicator of baitfish. This isn't always true, and they may try to snatch your bait, but I've had great luck catching feeding specs from underneath them.

    A great way to start is to watch what others are catching. Then use a small hook with small bait, or a sabiki rig and see what bait is biting. A cast net works as well but if you know what bait is around you can be sure there game fish are around and it can help you with lure choice.

    I'd like to say I'm experienced in angling but I've only been fishung salt water for 5 years not including surf , but I was at Holden beach, NC in the surf at low tide (tidal pools and bars) about 6:30ish ,it was late July water temp was about 76F I was using a light action 8'6" and 8lb fluorocarbon, I was using a drop shot rig with a freshwater blue gill Berkeley ribbed swim bait that was 3" and I would get a bite every cast and a hook up every other cast , I stood in waste deep water and would jig it off the floor parallel to the beach and it seemed to work well

    Hey I’m a big time fisherguy I know how to catch them things all day long all you need is a 12 gauge muffler pipe to take the master cylinder thru the pito tubes in all your magazines then you click the mouse on your spool to resemble a dying turn signal so do the spinners can make a full turn around the spindle. That’s all you need to catch the big ones and don’t forget the red dot shifting grunt.

    Also, buy a fishing barometer. Changes in barometric pressure has (old wives tale) given me valuable information. Ebay has several that are relatively inexpensive and fun. Changes in weather patterns (happening all year long) can indicate times when to fish and when to stay home.

    Make friends when you go fishing ! Creating a network of friends to share tips and tricks with when you go fishing. Local anglers are great sources of knowledge. Ask them questions am I'm sure they would help you out. I hope this helps.

    I can't believe you released that fish of the day, the big one. I'd have called her my dinner had I been in your shoes.

    I know you said brand doesn't matter for jigheads... but I've found bass assassin to be the best they use a little larger hooks then other jigheads of the same design and weight... also the best type of bass assassin in the chartreuse screw lock jigheads
