Pat is such a great player, he is so good live and he is good in front a 30000+ people . He played the Siren last year and just blew the roof off, like always. for the last 40 years. i first saw him when I was 19 tears old. My son got to see him at 34 years old with me at the Siren. Pat was very cool as usual after the Barn Burner of a show in a small venue. I have seen in big and small venues and its always very good, always. Thanks Pat for being you, and your bass player and drummer are just yet another set of ineradicable musicians as you are. Thanks again for the many great shows that I have enjoyed from 1970s till now. .
My band opened for travers a few years ago. I went home and wanted to burn all my gear. He was unreal . I’ve never seen such an amazing guitar player up close like that.
Pat Travers was the man! Certainly one of my all time favorites! Saw him many times in Baltimore in the early to mid 80s. He is not forgotten ..and never will be.
To just jam along, and keep up with Go For What You Know is a white knuckle ride on its own... ... To learn AND PLAY Travers' songs in time, CORRECTLY is a dimensional shift. How that cat can do it, and sing at the same time 😰... is way beyond me. Thanks for the post. I'll be spending the next week relearning - and the following three getting up to speed.
Thanks for the tab. I'm a bass player and absolutely loved Mars Cowling. I was 17 in 1980. I got my license and played the heck out of Crash and Burn. I hope more young people discover how kickass Travers is. Oh…I’m a new subscriber.
Saw him about 17 or 18 years ago in a small rock club in Wichita Falls Texas called Iron Horse Pub, probably less than a hundred people, Simon Wright from AC/DC on drums and a guy from Blackfoot on bass I think.
Thanks bro. Saw Pat in a small club in Tacoma in 1980 man. My ears are still ringing. Blistering start to finish. Saved this lesson. Gonna get those little nuances down pat. Always loved this rhythm riff!! New sub too!!
Saw Pat at a music store yesterday. He was buying a wha pedal as he forgot to bring his board on the road. It's kinda shocking to see one of the guys who inspired me to start playing in that context.
Man.. Love Pat Travers. Snortin' Whiskey, R&R Suzie .. Boom Boom .. all good stuff I originally bought on 8 track... and have most of his stuff digitally along with Frank Marino. Remember some great nights on the isolated carolina beaches drum fishing and indulging in magic mushrooms listening to Pat and Frank (Dragonfly) on the truck stereo. Haven't played my guitar in a while but picked it up tonight and still played a better part of R&R Suzie. Thanks for the memory and video .. but sorry .. not a girl. Love ya stuff man .. keep on keeping on !
Kelly! Your the man! Just like my all time favorite riff and song. I'm so ecstatic I could kiss you. Back in the 70s I had every Pat Travers albums from makes no difference " to this one and I've been trying to learn how to play this riff just last week and this morning there you are with the whole shebang! You have just become my favorite go to guitarist. Love you man Peace
Thanks Douglas. I was a big fan back in the late seventies early eighties as well. Any Canadian guitar player back then knew who he was. Nice to fund like minded individuals out there.
Pat Thrall laid down one of the meanest guitar solos ever in that song. I got a Guitar Player magazine around here somewhere from when the song was released. It has a great article on both Travers and Thrall.
Good for you turning the young crowd on to some greatness from the past. Never saw him live but I did see Frank Moreno ( another great one from the day in the same genre) open for Styx during the Come Sail Away your. Very bad pairing, we left halfway through Stix's set.
Not being picky and this sounds fantastic and is probably easier, but after the pull-off to A and the palm mutes, Pat goes to the open G and the finishes the riff with E on the 4th string 2nd fret and G(2x) on the 4th string 5th fret and the open D and back to the pull-off to A.
Ive seen Travers play about half dozen times, each time in a smaller venue (1st time was in a large arena opening for Rush)… the last time I saw him was in a small club that usuallly featured tribute bands… he had a power trio, and he sounded great! But after the show, it was announced that heʻd be signing autographs, so i got in line, thrilled to have a chance to actually speak to him… most of the people in line in front of me were female, and he smiled and laughed with them like hevwas having the time of his life, and when it came my turn, he looked up with a smile on his face, then all of a sudden, his smile disappeared, and he had this look on his face like “aww man, you aint no chivk!!” and he kind of mumbled something when i commented how much i liked his petformance. It kind of turned me against him for a bit (I didnt even keep the autograph)…but, he IS a kick-ass guitarist, and “Crash and Burn” is one of my all time favorite albums, so…I forgive him. Itll always puzzle me to why he didnt become a huge star….he had the talent and songwriting skills
That was awesome, Kelly! I used to crank it in my car when I was 16 when it came out. That is one of the coolest riffs of all time and always gets me fired up and now at 56 I’m learning it, hell yeah! Paul Gilbert does a killer cover of it in Guitar Center on a RUclips video. By the way you have probably heard this before, but you sound like Dan Aykroyd to me. It’s probably because I’m a Floridian haha. Thanks for the killer lesson. I’ve always wanted to play that riff.
Yeah, I struggled to figure this one out back in 1980. I used to use pull-offs and hammer-ons between the 5th and 2nd frets on the D string and it never sounded or felt right. Plus, the transition to the pinch harmonic was more difficult that way. Years later, I was determined to figure it out and the simplicity of using the open G string slapped me in the face. When I tried that the clouds parted and it sounded and felt right from then on.
This a Pat Thrall riff contribution and NOT Travers. At age 18 Thrall was involved in the first ever instructional book for rock guitar titled "Improvising Rock Guitar Vol 1. There is a reason why Satriani had him play bass on Engines of Creation ! Even Gary Moore gave Pat Thrall kudos on the liner notes of two albums
I've been listening to Pat Travers for over 40 years and I still love his music and think he's great but nobody has EVER compared him to the likes of Jimi Hendrix or Robin Trower. Lol! C'mon man!

I saw Pat up close in 1984 and to this day it was one of the best guitar performances of my life
Take a closer look at this guy's channel, I'd just bet he can hold his own with just about anyone. And I will again in about 90 more days.
Check out Duke Tomatow too. He plays through an old fender super twin and has a heck of a sound.
Admirable choice for first awesome riff of the day. Pat is one of the live show gods.
Pat Travers was the man! Certainly one of my all time favorites! Saw him many times in Baltimore in the early to mid 80s. He is not forgotten ..and never will be.
Pats still kicking ass. Saw him 3 times in the last year

First time I saw PT was in San Diego at a small club. My ears were ringing for 3 days. ALWAYS used earplugs after that LOL
Pat and Frank Marino are 2 absolutely fucking monsters on the guitar that NEVER got the recognition they deserved!
#truth
Just now found this channel! Great content, and lessons, thanks...
Great Lesson. Loaned Pat a guitar rig last summer. Still a monster player!!! Thanks for the video. Wish you'd cover the solos
Saw Pat at a music store yesterday. He was buying a wha pedal as he forgot to bring his board on the road. It's kinda shocking to see one of the guys who inspired me to start playing in that context.
Rock n Roll!! Happy to be aboard!!
tried to do cover of this on my channel, thought I remembered how to play it right,..till saw this ,..nice job 👍🎸
Dude , just ran across you for first time. Really enjoy your style of teaching. Great lesson , Thanks
Always loved travers and thanks for mentioning Rory

Great Riff! GFWYK is one of the best live recordings ever made. RIP Mars Cowling.
Mars, Pat and Tommy, thank you, good night everybody!
thanks-man ! that was very understandable, and kick-ass! now i just have to practice it.
Looking forward to your Marino video! God Bless you man great work!
The first side of Crash and Burn was awesome. His version of Born Under A Bad Sign is killer, the solo from it is something I wish I could learn.

You are my top Tuber brother. Know that!!😀😀😇😇
Thanks man! Very nice of you to say bro.
Awesome Riff! I like the idea. Pat Travers is definitely a somewhat forgotten artist. If I had to pick one, it would be Lazy by Deep Purple

Ya know Travers...is just great up beat pure Rock n Roll. Its the pedals that gave him a signature sound.
Saw Pat Travers with Rush at the Allentown Fairgrounds (PA) in the late 70’s.
Good job. Good ol PT from Ottawa Canada..RedHot being his band at the Chaudiere Club in Hull PQ...then fame afterwards.

Checked out Frank Marino -- you ain't kiddin. Jeeeeeeez! Digging the new series! Thanks for this!
What's Next, Mahogany Rush IV and the first live album are bad ass!
Great video !
Good stuff man. Thanks. Quite EZ.
I used to repair his BMW in winter park fl. He always smelled like whiskey!
Kick arse my friend. Man did you almost knock the headphones off with hitting the wire? I've done it many, times. Drums especially. Hahahahah.
Nope was the lav mic. Hahahahaha. Love it
Frank Marino live album is a schooling on hard rock!
Thanks Man!
Very nice!
THANK YOU FOR LESSON
I, got it all upto the part, "Let's do this" !
Thank You
Thank you nice lesson!
My first two concerts were Pat Travers touring with Aerosmith in the early 80's
for the pinch when you say the thumb brushes the string, is it a quick, light touch with the thumb?
Awesome. do you have the tone setting?? bias fx
Travers plays it utilizing the open G string
Yeah, I struggled to figure this one out back in 1980. I used to use pull-offs and hammer-ons between the 5th and 2nd frets on the D string and it never sounded or felt right. Great party song my Senior year 1979
Pat Thrall < lets not forget about what did for this ^
Oh fuck yea!
Boom Boom Out Go The Lights
Great party tune!
I'm convinced that is how the riff goes. It doesn't sound complete.
Seems that every video you do with some awesome "riffs", that picture on the wall keeps on tilting probably from all the "hard playing" you do ;-))
He didn't play that ghost note when I saw him perform it.
I've been listening to Pat Travers for over 40 years and I still love his music and think he's great but nobody has EVER compared him to the likes of Jimi Hendrix or Robin Trower.
Lol! C'mon man!
Pat Travers is one of the only guitarists I have ever compared to Jimi.
Closer to Frank Moreno in my opinion. Although I've had a copy of Bridge of Sighs in all formats since around 1975.
Can you do a video on all the lead Solo's?
"BOOM BOOM"😃
What did you do with your donner build guitar?
Still have it. Still use it a lot. I think the least video I used it for was highway Star by Ritchie Blackmore a few months ago.
Kelly Dean Allen Guitar now I’m gonna go find that video. Love your videos.
Pat Benatars lead guitarist was also very good, but underrated, prescess time,
I can find the riff but no one teaches the song :(
Why did I think Pat Travers was from England? Cause I never actually checked? Could be. Maybe cause I didn’t care, didn’t matter.
Can you do a lesson on Eddie Hintons' "I need a big fat woman"
So, I see that you like reverb, aye?
I couldn't watch it no longer does he ever get to where he shows you how to play the damn lick
This series of videos were part history lesson, part guitar Lesson. It was what they were about.

Enough story! You're 3:42 in and still telling stories.
It's part of what I do. Rock and roll history. I'm not just all about the tutorial.
Almost 4 minutes of talk before the lesson.
Yep. It's what I do.
Less talking and quicker getting to the lesson would be good. I lost interest before you got the the subject.
Is....that a, Squier that you are making sound magnificent!??
Kinda close
