I have never heard of this band or the song, but it was fantastic. Thanks so much guys. You have pulled a hat-trick today. Really really made my day. Greetings from England and I hope everybody has a fantastic day.

This version of the pat travers band absolutely kicked ass! I was lucky enough to see them (but only once). They only did 2 studio albums snd a live one before breaking up, but the first, ‘heat in the street’ is phenomenal. I highly recommend the title track from thst one.
Saw him open up for Molly Hatchet in 1980 in Erie Pa. Crazy good! Definitely check out his "Boom, Boom, Out Go The Lights." Another artist I remember around the same time was Billy Thorpe. React to his song "Children Of The Sun". Thanks. 😎
"Boom Boom Out Go The Lights" is a Travers' classic rock tune. Do the live version (is there a studio version?). Now, I want to go and listen to some classic Ted Nugent!
@@oldnerdreviews by the way, yes there is a studio version. It's on his debut album. It actually sounds pretty good, there's piano on it as well. It doesn't have the great energetic atmosphere that the live version has, but it's pretty good for a studio version.

Great choice. Many have suggested Boom Boom Out Go the Lights. I agree, and it's really fun to listen to the audienc participate in the song with him. Every time I hear this song I think of the movie Sideways (2004). It's got many hilarious scenes, one of which includes this song playing while the main character tries to crawl through a house and retrieve his lost wallet without waking up the huge ogre of a man that lives there. It the 1st time many of us ever heard of Paul Giamatti. You really should consider it for movie night. Pat Travers had a very solid band in the 70's, and was great live. I saw him hold his own on a 1978 Day On The Green at the Oakland Coliseum. He had 3rd billing, above AC/DC and Van Halen, and below Foreigner and Aerosmith, who was the headliner. He was popular in the San Francisco Bay Area, so the crowd knew him well and appreciated his performance, despite being in the middle of such a stellar lineup of bands that day.

After he left Pat's band he did an album with Glenn Hughes of Deep Purple & had a hit with The Look In Your Eyes. He also played with Meatloaf & Asia. I was recently introduced to Pat Travers through my favorite guitarist Nuno Bettencourt of Extreme and it was through this song. Travers is one of his influences. Nuno said in an interview that Travers live album was his "funk rock bible." Always interested to see who your favorites are influenced by. Great song. Great pick Jay and Amber.
I had forgotten all about this song. They used to play it a lot on the hard rock radio stations. It was released in 1980 but it has a real seventies sound.
Pat lived near me in East Central Florida in the late '90s - early '00s, and I must have seen him a dozen times playing on the boardwalk in Daytona during Bike Week festivals. When he did "Boom, Boom Out Goes The Lights" it was the epidimy of audience participation... 100% of the crowd joined in to great effect.
Literally played Pat Travers Live: Go For What You Know, until the grooves wore out in my teens and 20s. Everything on that album is fire. Especially "Boom Boom Out Go The Lights", "Stevie", and "Makes No Difference". I'm going to listen to it right now. Thanks!
Pat is one of the greatest, yet under-appreciated rock guitarists of all time. Luckily he still tours and has recorded a LOT of music. Definitely an artist worth delving into. His version of "Evil" is just amazing and IMHO, has one of the best guitar solos ever laid down!
First band I ever saw live and on this tour, when I was 12 years old. HOLY SH*T!!!! That's Pat thrall doing all the lead fills, except for one. Best lineup Travers ever had with Mars, Tommy Aldridge and Pat Thrall. A shame it didn't last longer.
Was lucky to know some people who knew him , had diinner with them , Pat and his wife in 2000 at Orlando House of Blues before a private show at the restaurant venue, Fun times !!
Pat Travers and the band would put on a great high energy concert back in the day. Not only did Tommy Aldridge drum for Travers, but he moved on to drum for Ozzy Osbourne to fill the spot after Lee Kerslake left. NOTE: Lee Kerslake also used to drum for Uriah Heep, prior to working with Osbourne. As others are also recommending, check out the live version of Pat Travers "Boom Boom! Out Go the Lights!"
I echo everyone else's thoughts, "Boom Boom, out go the lights" is a must. Funny story; I once did that song in a lip sync contest and won a $100! The crowd loved it. Haha💥👊😃
You poor young people will never know the glory of the 70s. There was nothing like it. I was about 12 when this came out in, I want to say '76, but I'm old and my memory isn't what it was. Travers was responsible for some of the greatest guitar work in rock. Wildly underrated.
I saw this guy back in the 80s and he put on quite a live show. Everyone is bringing up Boom Boom which was his biggest hit and a good one. Stevie is a good slow song for him and Born Under a Bad Sign is another rocker.
In 1977 at 14 years old I saw an album at Woolworths that was 399. It was Pat Travers making Magic. after that I collected his whole catalog. I love guitar driven rock and roll and he is amazing. From what I understand he is still doing the bar circuit down through Texas and the Southern States. If you want to check out another great guitarist David Wilcox and do the tune Rock and Roll Fantasy. As a teenager did a short stint as a roadie with him and Max Webster. Way too many drugs and alcohol LOL. But amazing guitar driven rock and roll. Just a thought from an old guy I really do enjoy your show thanks.
I saw them open for Rush 3 times. Between Neil Peart and Tommy Aldridge, we never lacked for drumming entertainment. For a while in the mid-70s they were on par with each other successfully. Then moving pictures happened for Rush. If you are wondering what to do next, the iconic Boom Boom Out Go The Lights is the answer, however it MUST be done LIVE. After that the ear candy track will be Crash And Burn. Enjoy your listen & stay the same lovely people you are.
12-17-24 / 5:18pm: Howdy from Arizona! Oh man, I turned 70 yesterday / still rockin' hard too, and get goosebumps EVERY TIME I hear this live version. This old Boomer / reformed sinner who found his way used to love not too much else more than getting with my buddies in the early- mid 70's.....getting just lit up first.....then going to a live arena-rock show and just GOING OFF until the wee hours. That's the conditions that I saw Pat and this lineup but with Tommy Aldredge on drums.....omg!! This would have been around 1990-93 in Tucson.....at The ROCK next to Wildcat House. Old fashioned smoke-filled whisky-swillin rock n roll bar action was my favorite pastime. Feel SO BLESSED that I got to experience all those big top bands that played live back then. Oh Yeah I was a senior in HS and this Song Wow on one weekend on Friday night drove 60 miles to Shreveport La to see Pat Travers Band with Foghat next morning early drove to Dallas Tx to The Texxas Jam April Wine, Sammy Hagar, Christopher Cross Cheap Trick Foreigner and Eagles were Headline Great weekend You Guys Rock I can see myself at concerts with Y’all!
Crash and Burn is another great song
Thanks!
It is actually two guitarists. The first solo is a guy named Pat Thrall, who co-wrote this tune, and Pat Travers takes the second solo.
An ageless song that never loses it's impact- ness lol
Pat Travers is was the Go-To band if someone drops out of a show down in Florida.
Pat is one of the greatest, yet under-appreciated rock guitarists of all time. Luckily he still tours and has recorded a LOT of music. Definitely an artist worth delving into. His version of "Evil" is just amazing and IMHO, has one of the best guitar solos ever laid down!
Glad y'all did this one. Cannot forget Pat.
His "Black Pearl" is a killer album! "I La La La Love You" was the single and was in the 1983 Nicholas Cage film Valley Girl.
💯% agree. One ofy favorite albums
Nice to see another fan of the Black Pearl album.
Would love to see J & Amber react to Amgwanna Kick Booty !
Stand Up, Who'll Take The Fall, Amgwanna Kick Booty, Misty Morning.......all great songs.
Great album that should have been a hit. Can't Stop the Heartache and I'd Rather See You Dead were my faves!
Pat Travers were always just straight ahead, no nonsense, Rock n Roll at its very best. ✌️
All right my babies.... Wholly Smokes ‼️ Ptt is a very good guitar player and this was a great reaction ‼️💯🔥🤘😎🤘
This came out when I was in highschool and i may have consumed a few adult beverages listening to this 😇
This song was loud and proud when I was a teen back in the day. We didn't play this around parents. lol
I echo everyone else's thoughts, "Boom Boom, out go the lights" is a must. Funny story; I once did that song in a lip sync contest and won a $100! The crowd loved it. Haha💥👊😃
I saw PT in concert in a movie house in Worcester, MA in the late '70's, he Rocked It!
You poor young people will never know the glory of the 70s. There was nothing like it. I was about 12 when this came out in, I want to say '76, but I'm old and my memory isn't what it was. Travers was responsible for some of the greatest guitar work in rock. Wildly underrated.
WOOOOHOOOOO!!! Some TRAVERS!!! He's a lil' "confused" in this song.... 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Boom Boom: Out Goes The Lights is another BANGER by him!!! HUGS, YA'LL!!!
Your reaction to this is true rock and roll attitudes love it.
FYI Barry Gibb is being honored on the Kennedy Center Awards, on TV tonight!
Oh my,goodness! Taking me back to the late 70’s!!!!
God BLess you all and Merry Christmas '24.
Song of my youth
Makin Magic is his finest track.
My first PT album.
Back in the day, anyone playing this song loud as hell at their house party was just way too cool.
They do rock the house. I agree with "Boom Boom Out Go the Light's" next listen
About time! 😁 Glad you enjoyed it!
I saw Pat Travers with Rainbow in Cleveland in 1981, it was smokin'.
OMG! Pat Travers!!!!!!!
Gotta see PT and his boys LIVE!!
He's an amazing underrated guitarist.
And keyboardist. I heard he plays the keyboard on the song Crash and Burn. It's awesome.
Tommy Aldridge is the very best overlooked drummer!
this reminds me of the great Seattle radio station KISW and hearing them play it when I was a teenager. thank you!
