Oh, the great live version of _Boom Boom! Out Go the Lights!_ is in the must listen category.
And as for heavy riffs- guys, we've all let Jay down by not pushing _Mississippi Queen_ by Mountain. The way he loves his riffs, that song will require him to take a recovery rest. 😁

The greatest live band in the history of rock. Period. Pat Travers on guitar and vocals, Pat Thrall on guitar, Mars Cowling on bass and Tommy Aldridge on drums was an absolute machine. The live version of "Boom Boom out go the lights" is the best live performance ever captured on audio tape.

My mother taught a night class (music appreciation) at San Diego State University back in the early 80's. Pat Travers Band was playing a show on campus. They were SO loud, she had to cancel the class. Her line was, "Well, I can appreciate that this band has more of your attention than I do." She's 96 and STILL teaching (introduction to) Classical piano.

When this record came out in 198o, I bought the cassette because I knew it would get much play. After the second cassette tape wore through, I bought the cd. I also bought a se one copy just on case. Whenever I go on the road and have a long drive on the Interstate, this is one of the cds I make sure is packed for the road trip.
The whole Crash and Burn album is fire. The covers of BORN INDER A BAD SIGN by Albert King, IS THIS LOVE? by Bob Marley, and the live crowd pleaser (BOOM, BOOM) OUT GO THE LIGHTS are just as amazing now as they were then. But the star of the record is still the title track CRASH AND BURN. The mood, the message, the slow plodding kick of the drums, and the anxiety of the electric keyboard all work to drive the message of red tape aggravation system of slog designed to maximize your frustration is fully realized here. And Pat Travers voice never fails to underline the point.
Along these lines, you guys need to listen to the Temptations preach the way of the world in the song BALL OF CONFUSION.
And just because ... WANGO TANGO by Ted Nugent. Enjoy

Great choice. Many have suggested Boom Boom Out Go the Lights. I agree, and it's really fun to listen to the audienc participate in the song with him.
Every time I hear this song I think of the movie Sideways (2004). It's got many hilarious scenes, one of which includes this song playing while the main character tries to crawl through a house and retrieve his lost wallet without waking up the huge ogre of a man that lives there. It the 1st time many of us ever heard of Paul Giamatti. You really should consider it for movie night.
    IMDB describes it this way:
"Two men reaching middle age with not much to show but disappointment embark on a week-long road trip through California's wine country, just as one is about to take a trip down the aisle."
    Be blessed ❤

YES, all the way from Toronto Canada to kick your ass, the Pat Travers Band.
That's how they would introduce Pat & his band as they came out.
Pat Travers started as a three piece band. With Pat writing, singing, playing guitar & keyboards with a drummer & long time bass player & band mate Mars Cowling, He's had musicians come & go. Always great musicians. But the album Snortin' Whiskey is on his 6th album Crash & Burn. He a four piece band. Joining him & Mars in the band was another guitarist Pat Thrall who was in Automatic Man, had a hit called My Pearl. After he left Pat's band he did an album with Glenn Hughes of Deep Purple & had a hit with The Look In Your Eyes. He also played with Meatloaf & Asia. On drums is the great Tommy Aldridge who's played for so many bands. Black Oak Arkansas, Ozzy Osbourne, White Snake. But those four were considered the classic lineup.
The two Pats would which back & forth with the leads on guitar.
But Pat is still putting out great albums & touring as mostly a three piece. Truly underrated artist, never understood why he wasn't HUGE. But a lot of great stuff here, especially from the 70s.
What you should do next is the live version of Boom Boom (Out Go The Lights) from the album Live! Go For What You Know. That's the song that got him some exposure on the radio. You both will love that song. But I'm going to list some of my favorites & you'll hit some of these. Definitely keep diving into the PT catalog.
    I'd Rather See You Dead
    Life In London
    Crash & Burn
    Stevie
    New Age Music
    Hooked On Music
    Heat In The Street
Is This Love ( Bob Marley cover)
Also here's the thing about Pat Travers. Yes he's going to kick your ass with some heavy rock. But your gonna here blues, jazz, some funk. Just great stuff guys, welcome aboard.

Pat Travers had a very solid band in the 70's, and was great live. I saw him hold his own on a 1978 Day On The Green at the Oakland Coliseum. He had 3rd billing, above AC/DC and Van Halen, and below Foreigner and Aerosmith, who was the headliner. He was popular in the San Francisco Bay Area, so the crowd knew him well and appreciated his performance, despite being in the middle of such a stellar lineup of bands that day.

A couple that may not get a lot of love, but off a underappreciated album(Black Pearl) are "I'd rather see you dead" and "I La La La love you". The latter featured in the early Nic Cage movie "Valley Girl". I got to see him twice, and when he's on stage, he's even more frenetic. Definitely part of the party albums played at every kegger during my youth.

These were stellar musicians on this recording! Pat Travers was backed by Pat Thrall (guitar), Mars Cowling (bass) and Tommy Aldridge (drums). These 4 guys tore-it-up!

You poor young people will never know the glory of the 70s. There was nothing like it. I was about 12 when this came out in, I want to say '76, but I'm old and my memory isn't what it was. Travers was responsible for some of the greatest guitar work in rock. Wildly underrated.

Pat Travers and the band would put on a great high energy concert back in the day. Not only did Tommy Aldridge drum for Travers, but he moved on to drum for Ozzy Osbourne to fill the spot after Lee Kerslake left. NOTE: Lee Kerslake also used to drum for Uriah Heep, prior to working with Osbourne.
As others are also recommending, check out the live version of Pat Travers "Boom Boom! Out Go the Lights!"

I saw this guy back in the 80s and he put on quite a live show. Everyone is bringing up Boom Boom which was his biggest hit and a good one. Stevie is a good slow song for him and Born Under a Bad Sign is another rocker.

Literally played Pat Travers Live: Go For What You Know, until the grooves wore out in my teens and 20s. Everything on that album is fire. Especially "Boom Boom Out Go The Lights", "Stevie", and "Makes No Difference". I'm going to listen to it right now. Thanks!

I saw them open for Rush 3 times. Between Neil Peart and Tommy Aldridge, we never lacked for drumming entertainment. For a while in the mid-70s they were on par with each other successfully. Then moving pictures happened for Rush. If you are wondering what to do next, the iconic Boom Boom Out Go The Lights is the answer, however it MUST be done LIVE. After that the ear candy track will be Crash And Burn. Enjoy your listen & stay the same lovely people you are.

I was recently introduced to Pat Travers through my favorite guitarist Nuno Bettencourt of Extreme and it was through this song. Travers is one of his influences. Nuno said in an interview that Travers live album was his "funk rock bible." Always interested to see who your favorites are influenced by. Great song. Great pick Jay and Amber.

It is actually two guitarists. The first solo is a guy named Pat Thrall, who co-wrote this tune, and Pat Travers takes the second solo.
