Mars Cowling is the bassist , and Pat Thrall is the guitarist trading leads with Pat Travers. Tommy Aldridge is on drums. I think this was his best lineup.
Pat Travers… a Canadian friend who knew how to swing an axe! Pat was just awesome. THIS is the version I first heard back in the 70’s and it is a burner! The crowd interaction takes this one up multiple notches! Great song and reaction, Chod!
Yes that’s not me on bass I think I was 1 year old at that time. That was Peter Mars Cowling on bass very underestimated player. I had never heard of him until I had to start learning Pats material he has become easily one of my favorite bassists RIP Mars Cowling
What a great selection! I remember listening to this music in my 20s and especially this one! Fun fun fun days! Boom Boom! Thanks, Chod for reminding me of one of the ultimate party tunes!
So the drummer on this album was one of my original favorite drummers growing up. His name is Tommy Aldridge and was in a band called Black Oak Arkansas in the late 60s and early 70s. You being a drummer would get some enjoyment out his drum solo from I believe 1973 on RUclips. Just incredible. So much energy. And I believe one of the first to really make use of the double bass.
The legend & under-rated Peter "Mars" Cowling on Bass. Pat Travers on Guitar & Vocals. Pat Thrall On Guitar. Tommy Aldridge on drums. Mars got his nickname because of his love of..... the Mars Bar. Yes, the candy bar.
I probably saw these guys 20 times just because they opened for everybody. I remember one year they opened for ACDC and a month later Foghat and a month after that they opened for Steve Miller ...We couldn't avoid these guys! Shoot, for all I know there could have been a half-dozen Pat Travers bands running around the midwest. It was downright suspicious.
@@TheRydog61 1978 or 79? I saw them in Long Beach. Gamma(Montrose) then Travers, But Blue Oyster Cult was the headliner, didn't see them with Cheap Trick. What a great concert it was.
Wilburn, let me start off by saying we have thoroughly enjoyed watching your reaction videos! That is the beloved Mars Cowling on bass 🔥Love seeing the music bring a smile to your face! I'll be sure to show him 😊
At the end of your comments, Chod -- you talked about the rhythm section being "perfect." Which suddenly brought to mind a band I think you'll like, that had a killer rhythm section -- Little Feat. You should listen to Spanish Moon, from the live album Waiting for Columbus. It's fabulous. All of the record, really, but Spanish Moon is Special.
when this was a hit, I was DJ-ing college frat parties. about an hour and several "Beverges" into the party I'd crank this one up and place would go NUTS.
not many live tracks made it to radio but this one sure did. bands were tight back in the day. they all lived to play live and we all lived to go to concerts. it was a different time.
Pat and the boys were fantastic!!!!!! I saw him play one evening in a hole in the wall strip club off Fredericksburg Road in San Antonio Tx in 1978 and it was one of the greatest shows I’ve ever attended!!!!! This song brought the house down and there were only like 250 ppl partying on n the joint!!!! Pat was top tier!!!! Thank you Joe Anthony and KISS FM 99.5 for promoting his show!!!!! Being 17 and going to Churchill High School and getting to experience something like this band was epic back in the day!!!!! Oh yeah a whole lot of weed was being smoked that night but that was the 70’s in SA!!!!! Good times!!!! Thanks for taking me back to my high school days hombre!!!!!! So says Austin Tx!!!!! 🤣🍸
Got to see Mr. Pat Travers and Band at the Worcester Centrum on 11/11/82, the were one of two opening acts for the depleted Aerosmith, no Brad Whitford or Joe Perry, instead Rick Dufay and Jimmy Crespo. The Dark years. The first opener was a band called Rose Tattoo, they came all the way from Australia to get horribly booed by the crowd. Pat Travers got the exact opposite reaction, he got an encore. And this was Aerosmith's home turf, great reaction for a Canadian band in Massachusetts.
You are absolutely correct. They are one of the tightest bands I've ever heard and seen in concert. Just amazing. Mars is so very underrated as a bass player and Tommie is a legend on the drums while Thrall and Travers are excellent on the guitars.

So cool to see someone who gets how tight the band was and recognize that they were not just going through the standard progression, but taking it to another level. Love your reactions!
To tell the truth, P.T's band at the time had Tommy Aldridge on Drums and you got it right for the bassist...he played some slick walk notes and kept busy. I've listend to that LP all the way through, and can honestly say I've never heard guys work 3 chord blues like they did.
There's two guitar players in Pat Travers band at this time Pat Travers and Pat Thrall and they are switching back and forth in this song as well as many other songs and if you know boths individual styles you can tell, just letting you know and both are excellent guitarist as you heard.
Isn't that what "BRINGIN IT!" is all about? It makes me happy watching you young kids react to the music myself and many others in our 50's and 60's grew up listening to. Good video and ROCK ON!
Iconic live rock album from the late 70's. I had the chance to see Pat Travers on this tour - so tight, so together, locked in sync like an atomic clock. Great reaction - thanks for sharing!
This is the first time I've ever seen you review anything and I'm very impressed you seem to understand the musicianship qualities extremely well. This is Tommy Aldridge on drums and Mars cowling on base, sadly Mars has passed away no longer with us and I'm not sure who Tommy's playing with right now but it might be whitesnake other than that you got that fraulein guitar and Pat Travers on guitar and vocals and are there is some some monster band in its day !! Great review on this I'll be looking for more from you. By the way I've met Pat Travers four times and he's a great guy..
Great discussion on a band being tight. I worked with a contemporary jazz band for 5 years that was SO tight it regularly made me uptight. In 5 years they only went onstage with a set list one time - because it was an important gig and I made them. Normally, they would wing it: the drummer would click his sticks and on 3 either the keyboard player or the sax player would call out a one word description of what they were going to play. Thus, SKIN! meant “Island Skin,” a song of theirs. Even crazier to me, a non-musician, if the sax player pointed up or down with his index finger, or the keyboard player would nod up or down and raise an eyebrow mid-song, they were changing keys on the fly - up or down. They often did it just to mess with each other, laughing about it later. It was amazing to me.
I have the crssh and burn album on vinyl. I do not remember all the members names. If he is the same, the drummer is Tommy Aldredge. He is one of those drummers who have been around forever and still has it. I discovered Pat Travers 1980 in college. A roommate was a big fan. Thanks Danny!
Tommy Aldridge on the drums and Peter Cowling on the bass. They were very locked in together on this album. Tommy went on to play with Ozzy for several years and then on to Whitesnake.
This was a "hit" when I was a teenager. I am 65 now. I never got into this guy. Just didn't do it for me. But he is good....I have my own tastes but Im not an idiot. Just never liked him enough to care. But I still gave ya a like. Great Channel!!
This version of the PTB cannot be topped. This is the late great Mars Cowling on bass. He was with pat for many years, from the beginning. Fantastic player....also....Pat Thrall on guitar, Tommy Aldridge on drums and of course Pat T on guitar and vocals. Got to see them once opening for Rush....a dream bill for me at the time as i was a huge fan of both. PTB was the better band on that particular night (no small feat). You should really check out the album 'Heat in the Street'. KILLER album start to finish
I saw these guys shortly after this album came out scorpions opened then pat Travers heafliner Ted Nugent who got bood off stage everyone calling for Pat to come back on stage in Victoria BC
You should go back from the start of this "Live! Go For What You Know" because it is so worth it. The whole band is on fire from start to finish ! It's one of the best live albums ever recorded (too bad it's not a double album).
Great Tune. I Have Been Asking Everyone To Play Chuck Wagon & The Wheels (Sonora Bust) How About Being The Guy To Play It. I Know You Will Like Them And This Tune. Thanks
Mars Cowling is the bassist , and Pat Thrall is the guitarist trading leads with Pat Travers. Tommy Aldridge is on drums. I think this was his best lineup.
Agree but I did really like the Barry "Blatz' Dunaway, Jerry Riggs and Pat Marchino lineup as well. Dunaway did a very short stint and Mars came back.
This came out when I was already drumming in high school. As a drummer it changed my life.
That Bass just kills. Mar’s and Tommy were awesome together. Definitely one of the best live bands ever.
Awesome jam back in the day, awesome jam now!🎸🎸🎸
wow......makes the 3 chord shuffle boogie explode ! BOOM BOOM, baby.....
Pat Travers… a Canadian friend who knew how to swing an axe! Pat was just awesome. THIS is the version I first heard back in the 70’s and it is a burner! The crowd interaction takes this one up multiple notches! Great song and reaction, Chod!
I remember hearing this on FM radio back in the 70s. Also, at every high school party. 😀
This whole live album is fire.
Heat in the street is another great one
Talk about high energy! You can't not move listening to this!
The Two Pats! Pat Travers and Pat Thrall on guitars! The Pats had the audience in their Thrall :-) I'll see myself out.
I saw them a few times ,WOW , Snortin Whiskey , as others have suggested , would be an outstanding next choice . good to still have you around
I would highly recommend "Crash N Burn" and "Snortin' Whiskey" from the Crash & Burn album! The album was a staple of mine in college! 🤣
SO much fun listening to that record as a teenager (and in certain states of mind)!!
We play Crash N Burn Live great song

Tommy Aldridge ( Qzzy, Whitesnake ,Black Oak Arkansas) is one of the best drummers on the planet!!! He’s in his 70s now and is still a beast
What a great selection! I remember listening to this music in my 20s and especially this one! Fun fun fun days! Boom Boom! Thanks, Chod for reminding me of one of the ultimate party tunes!
Saw Pat Travers with BOC a few times. ALWAYS a kickass time.
Wow, haven't heard this in a long time!! Fabulous!! Thanks going behind the Maple curtain again!! 🇨🇦

That's what I like about your channel, I hear a song that I haven't heard in decades. At least once a decade I hear this song with no interruptions.!
Welcome to my high school years! I've been drumming for 45 years!
Tight is not a strong enough word to describe this kick ass band!!! Its surgical in its execution!

In 1986 I gave the CD to my cousin as a birthday present. I had to turn him on to Pat's wicked guitar.

No hint of any sadness in this song, so great.
great reaction.
This is a cover song. It was originally recorded by blues singer/harmonica player Little Walter in 1957
Always loved this. Watching your joyous reaction made me smile. Love your stuff Chod. ❤❤❤
My favorite college dorm party song in 80-81 especially when the lights went out!
I like the way you defined the harmonica as the baby organ..right out young Sir

I’ve seen Pat Travers with Rush and solo in later years, and he has always been a consummate showman. Mr. Tommy Aldridge on drums of course.
