    I would never have guessed that after taking almost 250 lifetime flights my worst flight ever would have been on JetBlue. Lo and behold, I was given a rather unpleasant surprise when flying onboard the carrier's Embraer 190 recently. I've flown JetBlue's E190 before so I knew what to expect. But the state of the aircraft was so deplorable that I can confidently say I have never flown in a worse aircraft before.
    Join me on this trip from New York JFK to Chicago O'Hare with JetBlue in "Core" economy class on the Embraer 190. I'll also include a quick visit to the iconic TWA Hotel during my layover in JFK!

    Hi everyone. Just thought I would clear some things up. I apologize if I came across as "entitled" in this video - that was not my intention at all. My intention was to simply provide an honest recount of this flight experience. I had never seen an aircraft interior in such a state before, hence my "harsh" comments towards it. I would still prefer JetBlue over any low-cost airline no doubt and, as I state in the video, would fly them and their E190 again 100%.

      Exactly - dirty seats and poorly kept cabin and all, this plane is WAY better than any existing A220 (or for that matter any of jetBlue's Airbus aircraft) because the E190 has WAY better engines, they're truly reliable, they haven't shut down in flight in a decade, unlike jetBlue's Airbus fleet whose engines keep shutting down every now and then in flight. My advice is, fly a jetBlue E190 whenever possible, for that reason alone.

      @@Im_not_good_with_names they'll definitely have to go when they reach the limit of their cycles, but the reliability of the E190's CF34-10E6 engines will definitely be missed - a jetBlue E190 engine hasn't shut down in flight in over a decade, unlike the rest of jetBlue's fleet.

    The E190s are typically used in short low density flights about one hour long, so they quickly built up cycles and get worn out. But at least their doors don't fall off after less than 3 years of use.

      @@rafaelwilks The Airbus A220 compares to the Embraer E-190 like a Tesla Model 3 compares to a Toyota Corolla. It is a way too advanced design and there are many early adopter flaws. Flew on many of JetBlue’s E-190s from their first few years. In fact, just after JetBlue started service to Austin, I flew my first E-190. Close to a 4 1/2 hour flight. Since then out of JFK, flew to ROC, ORD, BOS and even PIT (service was dropped). Never a problem then. Just prior to this past Christmas, went down on a E-190 JFK-PBI. Full flight. Everybody had a big bag as carry-on. Many of them had to be gate checked because they couldn’t fit into the overhead compartments. Flew on N232JB and have known that these aircraft were being fazed out. In fact, JetBlue had already sold off 4 to a regional carrier in Australia. This aircraft I flew was showing its age. I’m sure they all are. They’re not going to put any more money into them although they should keep them clean and shiney inside. Still a big JetBlue fan!

    I flew one of JetBlue's e190s (N266JB) in the summer of 2021, it was looking long in the tooth but still enjoyed it and glad to have a seat back monitor (even with as ancient as it is). With regards to the TWA hotel, it's definitely worth a visit if you have a long enough layover. Maybe even get a day room to relax and freshen up if you don't have lounge access. It's definitely not for a budget traveller. I've stayed there twice & as a history fan and avgeek, it's worth it. You can't beat the history, style or convenience, especially if you're flying JetBlue. I'll be the first to admit it has room for improvement.

    i used to be a former mechanic for jet blue from the beginning of the airline start 2000 to 2020, and i can verify that the upholstery and interiors have not been maintained properly, Most of the older 320's have just been refurbished with its interior in 2020 the year i left. They are not going to do anything with 190s at all until they fully breakdown. I worked with the first 2 ceos of this airline founder david nelleman and then David Barger and everything was perfect back then. In 2014 after David left the quality of everything started to decline under the new CEO robin Hayes former British Airways and it was like they didn't care about anything. The crew morale also declined in all aspects. in the 2000's this was one of the best airlines to fly domestically in my opinion however now i wish i could say the same. I even helped open T5 as a loyal JetBlue TRUEBLUE flyer on a warm Saturday in August 2008. But things started changing over the next five years. I did notice even before I retired a change in spirit at JetBlue. And just before this Christmas flew to PBI on a E-190 and gate and cabin people just lacked the spirit of the early days. From what I’ve been reading recently in aviation circles and Wall St talk, JetBlue is heading into “strong head winds” financially. Let’s hope the new management can turn it around. ✈️

    The E190s are on the way out at JetBlue, so besides some cleaning and light cabin/IFE repairs, there isn't much being spent on the customer-facing portions of the experience. The napkins in the overhead panels were probably put there by a customer on a prior flight, maybe they were cold or perhaps there was water dripping from condensation. The dirty seats and ripped seatback pockets are regretful but this aircraft type is steadily leaving the JetBlue fleet and will be completely gone some time in 2025. It does detract from the overall experience, I agree, but it also makes little sense to spend on cosmetics if that very aircraft is to be withdrawn within weeks or months. The seats themselves are still quite comfortable and the windows are large (unless compared to the A220). As for the IFE, be glad you have it! Most airlines don't put any sort of IFE in planes this small that are typically used on flights of 2 hours or less, so if you had working satellite tv that's better than you'd get on some larger equipment from United or American.
    For the record, JetBlue has never charged for tv, movies or FlyFi. The card swipe option was put in the seats when the planes were delivered but they were not used.

      I flew B6 in 2000 from BUF to JFK. The inflight TV was not working. They gave me a voucher to pay for using the TV on a future flight, so I think they did charge for a short time in the first year. I still have that voucher somewhere because I never used it while they did charge and didn’t fly B6 again until they opened the LGB hub.

    • @RoadCone411
      @RoadCone411 4 месяца назад

      @@erik_griswold I'm sure somebody from JetBlue might remember if they ever used the swipes but I didn't think they ever charged for watching tv or using the seatback screens. If they did, it was for a very short time. Regardless of whether they charged for them or not, JetBlue used to give vouchers when the system was inoperative because for many people that was a big part of the overall JB experience. I'm guessing they don't do that any more.

    • @RoadCone411
      @RoadCone411 7 дней назад +1

      @@erik_griswold If they did charge for the tv usage, it was on a trial basis or for a very short time. The issue is that the seats are not individually controlled, and neither the software nor the flight attendants could control which screens were on versus which were dark. My understanding is that the swipes were there for 'future possibilities' -David Neeleman was an innovator while leading JetBlue, and he may have envisioned using the card swipes for a buy on board program, pay per view movies, or perhaps the tvs once the technical features were added and working. Or maybe a combination of all of the above.
      The refund may have been a goodwill credit or voucher. People sort of expected the tvs - it was an early part of the JetBlue brand - and when the screens were dark, passengers were often left disappointed. A credit goes a little way to rectifying that.

I can't wait to see them replaced with the A220s, though I did like the 2x2 seating of the E90s the 2x3 is really nice depending on if traveling alone OR with one person, or with both my parents.
    Plus, with the E90s, I don't exactly like the window aignment (being an AV geek) and find that if I want to brace my arm up against the wall panel for stability, it's hard since the 190's wall paneling feels (to me at least) slick compared to the A320's.

The cabin fixtures have a lot of small openings, gaps and weird curvatures, so I think it's harder to keep clean and get into the nooks and crannies. These gaps and opening changes when panels flex during inflight, so I think it can trap a lot of debris. As others also pointed out, this is often used on short flights, so they get a lot of passenger cycles. Also, I think the E17x/E19x have also a questionable air circulation system. If you pay attention to the ceiling, bin panels, and air vents, you will see a lot of dark smudges, like the burnt oil particles that are blown back into the cabin. I do agree they should at least wipe down the seat and tray table.

    Never flew on the small jet blue planes but used to fly very often from LGB to IAD to visit my mom before she died in2005. They were a pretty good airline then and I never had a problem with the aircraft or service. Never thought of them being a budget airline then.

    Interesting take and definitely a great watch! I've flown JetBlue from London to Boston and then Boston to DC 5 times this year and always had a good time. I may have just been lucky with these e190s I have been in stateside, but my favourite carrier to fly on for sure. free wifi, free snacks, always helpful staff etc. But I hope this is just a bad plane in a good batch. Thanks for making the time to make this, was fun.

    I’ve never even flown an E190. This video still tells me what to expect when flying the JetBlue E190. Very outdated indeed. I have no saying on how to feel when those planes retire. Accept maybe make the passenger cabin look more welcoming. As for the A220-300 replacing them along with older A320s that plane is state of the art. Looks like a spaceship.

    Cool Video ASAviation! I agree that JetBlue E190s are kinda aging but I honestly belive that they should be reworked rather than retired, the A220 doesn't really fit the gap in the market the same way the E190s did, for example some of the Nantucket/Cape Cod Flights from JetBlue couldn't realy have A220 operations...

    • @ASAviation
      @ASAviation  4 месяца назад +2

      Thanks very much. I was thinking the same thing. I wonder if JetBlue will cede routes like ACK to Cape Air or AA completely or try to see if they can get the airports upgraded. But the A220 is a good short field plane too so it could serve those routes too.

    • @idxluaviation
      @idxluaviation 4 месяца назад

      @@ASAviation true, but it’s really about capacity… but I doubt JetBlue is going to let go of its dominance over cape cod, it’s already given up a lot in the northeast alliance… I honestly feel like the E190-E2 would’ve been a good option for JetBlue despite it not selling well…

    Random YT algorithm viewer here. IMO, JB has totally lost what made it special before. Now, it's "just another airline". There used to be a time when I'd board this young, vibrant, airline with quirks such as unusual snacks (still love the Terra chips when I find them) and crews that seemed to have genuine fun being onboard and that vibe absolutely transferred to us passengers. We all willingly helped in the general cleaning of our seats because we knew the previous passengers did for us (pay it forward concept before that was a thing). Now, I fly JB because I sorta have to and I feel miserable in most of those flights... :(

    Thanks for your review. I’ve flown those e190’s many times from BOS to JFK. I’ve found the flights comfortable and “yes” the planes are worn. However given the low cost and it’s better than driving, I don’t have a problem with it all. In fact doesn’t even cross my mind. So your assessment is harsh and unfair to JetBlue. If you are looking for perfection you should pay more for first class with another airline. Sounds like that’s more your “fit”.

    It’s a shame that JetBlue is treating their E190s like this. I flew on two from London City Airport to Edinburgh (and back) in the spring and BA has taken good care of their aircraft. This doesn't apply to all JetBlue nor all their E190s. I have flown their E190 before this and that aircraft was in great condition albeit the same old cabin. JetBlue maintains their planes well generally, this was an outlier incident. Their A320, A220, A321 products are day and night compared to the 190.
