Hello everyone! It's been quite a while since I made this arrangement and Daniel and the Symphonic Winds gave it their wonderful performance. During those years, I've been overwhelmed by all the response I've received from all over the world asking if they can play this arrangement. I've tried multiple times to get this available for publishing. Unfortunately, my numerous requests, and that of others, have all been denied. So I'm afraid and very very sorry, that this arrangement can't be shared for performance elsewhere. If there is anything else I could do for you, don't hesitate to get in touch! I'm truly humbled and grateful for all the response and wonderful comments this video has received. Thank you all very much!
I can not describe my feeling for HTTYD. Because it would take ages and ages. Their music is so beautiful, romantic and so much more. So pure, for me: nothing can beat this.
@@FlagraNightwalker The thing that makes 'Forbidden Friendship' so hard to play or arrange is the fact that that particular piece is constructed mostly out of all kinds of melodic percussion. Arranging that for wind band or symphony orchestra would take away a lot of the character that made this track so beautiful in the first place :). I tried to get it in here, but it wouldn't do justice to the original piece, so I omitted it. With pain, I have to say, cause it's my favourite track as well.
You know, this movie was nominated the Oscar for "Best Original Score", but it lost to The Social Network. I was so pissed to hear that. Because the score to HTTYD is PHENOMINAL!
+Cj Kalandek I remember when that happened. I literally yelled at the television. And I'm not someone who watches sports so that doesn't happen often for me.
Fun fact: My high school band played a arrangement of this, and we played it so many times that its banned and the teacher does not keep it in the school, after one day a student found it, and pranked him by having the whole band play it.
+Chocobear555 I know. It is sad. But it all comes around in the end to be a perfect arrangement. I got to play some of the music last year in my marching band show.
Whoever arranged this deserve to have this published. This version is so much better than the already published version on the market. I would certainly pay for this.
I just saw the second movie. And it just... The soundtracks blow me away. I love the whole thing. I play tenor sax and trombone in band I'm going to beg my teacher to buy this. It's wonderful. You guys did an amazing job.
This is such a good example for human achievements. There are not many things where humans work together in such perfection but this is one of them. gave me chills as **** :D
God, HTTYD shaped my childhood. I want to thank whoever came up with the amazing idea to come up with that. Toothless and hiccup and astrid and stormfly will always and forever be in my heart GOD NOSTALGIA
this was the best arrangement for the concert band Ive ever heard so far... Strong and heavy piece... but I think It was lack of musicality as the original version was played by the large number of players and the the entire piece was filled with strings... and for wind band version, I have to say that this is quite impressive and genius because its hard to mimic the numerous strings by a few woodwinds... this piece should get an award!!! well done...
George Hamilton the soundtrack was written for a full symphony orchestra with additional parts, I am not exactly how rendering those parts would work without the help of string instruments with our ensemble being a full Wind band, saying that, we also do not want to sound like a typical "marching band", hence the arrangement.
Yiau Daniel I was saying that the band could have played the parts when the string instruments were not very crucial, but since you did not want that sound, I understand.
The glissando around 4:39 never fails to give me the chills. This has been my comfort orchestra video since around 2016. Also, I love how the clarinets really resemble the sound of a human choir. I love it.
Yiau Daniel you need studio recording. this sounds as a living cooperation between instruments, interaction, team play, I was positively disappointed ;) for a long time did not hear anyone who was, beyond proffesional performance, so fond of the piece they were playing
Now I really miss the days in which I had orchestra practice every week. As a former human from orchestra and someone who has spent some time behind the curtain, the practices and the free time backstage are worth everything. If you can, pick up an instrument and try orchestra or a band. It is so much fun. Have a lovely day and rest of your life 😊
It's been 9 years since I saw the first movie, and even so, it saddens me to hear the soundtrack, I remember that at that moment everything was going well...😿
Oh my god it's so beautiful... I've heard it over ten times and I will do it again and again, I want to play a little bit easier version of this in my orchestra now.
Hello! I know that this comment is about ten years too late, but I really, really hope that the first clarinetist is still playing-and hopefully, they went on to conservatory. What a talent!

It says your score is published now with Omni Music Publishing as an orchestral score.
@@avanderwolf49 That's not mine; that's the official symphony orchestra score from the film by John Powell.
All I can say freind I love it... do a crowd funded project...

Oh gods, that Romantic Flight bit...I've got chills EVERYWHERE!!!
@TrebleSketch Romantic Flight is definitely the kind of piece of music to play/arrange for band!
Whoever arranged this deserve to have this published. This version is so much better than the already published version on the market. I would certainly pay for this.
陳冠任 indeed! Unfortunately we've written in to publishers and they refuse to publish this! We've tried...
I like the finished company market song better.

Same! At the beginning I'm like this is pretty good then at 1:42 I'm like holy shit
Guys. This was arranged by a 19 year old. WHAT?
It is not exactly hard to arrange a music piece. Well, maybe it is for most people, but many, also, have that talent.
George Hamilton and hence this arranger has the talent to be able to arrange this : )
Yiau Daniel Indeed.
Yiau Daniel I've tried myself, but arranging music just isn't my thing
+Ethan Neal ...WHAT?!
Btw the flute solo is amazing!!! And I can’t stop watching this!

My favorite part of right at 6:50 . I love that melody change from the more whimsical tune to the more majestic bit. It's so amazing.

Much of the soundtrack was written in "marching band" style, so, I think, it would have been better if the arranger had simply rendered those parts.

I play alto sax and we have the same part and it’s great
That was awesome. The best 11 minutes since I saw HTTYD 2 ;)
The soundtrack of this movie is amazing. So sad that the best part of the entire soundtrack is the smallest part in this arrangement.
I can't believe there are people who dislike this video.
This is amazing, don't you know anything about music?
Ruthless monsters :l
