how to train your dragon is one of those movie franchises where you dont have to be such bigtime fans to be able to appreciate it. Every once in a while, you just go back to it and realize just how great everything about it is. Man, the music, Romantic Flight is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ive ever heard. Makes me tear up every time.
came back after watching the third movie and this soundtrack brings me to tears everytime because it's like watching my childhood pass by :(( i bawled so hard watching the third movie. words will never express how much i love this series and the characters.
Like the moment when he lets Toothless fly away and Hiccup's hand is on Toothless' nose in the same way it was after the part in the first movie where they just made the drawing (Forbidden Friendship), but now it's reversed. I cried for sure.
If I were conducting this orchestra, I would literally be jumping up and down and waving my baton hysterically from about 10:13 onward! Like so many others, that part gets me every time!
Haha I'm seven months too late but that's 'romantic flight', the song that played when hiccup and Astrid first fly together on toothless, a beautiful moment indeed but it's not the end?
I am Japanese. I like How to Train Your Dragon movies. Because the song is wonderful and the Toothless is so cute! I yearn for the world of dragons. (I'm sorry for my poor English.)
You don't have to apologize for your lack of knowledge in the English language. Also, having the ability to speak another language is commendable. I love HTTYD as well, and I do wish these kinds of dragons existed.
8:28 yep yep sobbing, this show was my childhood and knowing that I’ll never be able to befriend a dragon, to go flying at top speeds just because we can, makes me cry like a baby knowing the world will never be kind enough to deserve dragons. This is such an amazing piece and everyone involved did amazing, props to all the players and conductor, this actually gave me chills.
I would LOVE to know how the people performing this are feeling while playing. Like, how the hell are you not bawling your eyes out at the absolute magnificent music that is being produced?
as a musician i can confidentially say they are feeling it and most of the time they are moving their body around even if it’s a little. that’s why you sometimes see musicians such as pianists swaying when performing
it feels incredible. even though you’re focused on what you’re playing your whole body is experiencing the power of the music. it’s a really amazing feeling
Feeling the excitement and happiness of playing a piece you love wholeheartedly is an amazing experience especially if you can feel the excitement of others in the orchestra/band
Frankly, a lot of professional musicians loathe playing movie soundtracks and popular music whenever their orchestra does a "summer pops series" or whatever. Although it sounds good to us, it's usually not musically challenging or interesting compared to what they usually play. Hans Zimmer and John Williams are great examples- though they write very different styles, they're both great composers whose music is often so well-suited to the films they accompany. But for musicians, they're boring and basic as hell to play. That being said, you can see this ensemble is really putting their heart and soul into it. It means they are very professional and have a good director, but you can tell they're passionate and also having fun. John Powell's scores are a little more creative than most and I think you see that this orchestra has more respect for and interest in this music than they probably would for most movie music.
Came here after watching The Hidden World. Damn. John Powell. What a man. What a brilliant composer. I loved how he incorporated the most dominant themes in the first and 2nd movies into The Hidden World's score. The nostalgia definitely added to the melancholy and anticipation to Hiccup and Toothless' eventual parting. :'(
Doesn't this make you smile. You are exactly where you're supposed to be. Having watched the httyd story unfold. I don't care if you're new at it or have been here since your childhood. This stays in our heart.
i agree too. but i think it would not be in sync with the whole energy of the selected sountracks, since "Forbidden Friendship" is has a calm tone to it. But I agree that it should be featured more in live orchestral concerts. It doesn't given much love.
l'm 23 years old now and l have been a fan of HTTYD for 10 years. Every time when l come back for this video at 8:27 and 10:12 always give me goosebumps and l feel like l'm gonna cry... So glad that this movie is my childhood.
Give credit to the screenwriters, actors, animators and directors, too! A whole team is needed to make a great franchise. The soundtrack is still amazing.
I always cry harder when that part is played. It reminds of how we’ll never experience the magic of flying on a beautiful dragon of our own... my emotions are all jumbled up now because of the 3rd movie... I don’t think I can make it
I literally still come back and listen to this every day... It's that good. Romantic Flight and Test Drive bring back so much nostalgia I want to cry sometimes... memories of my childhood
Bro that violinist deserves an award. Music isn’t about just sounds it’s about the emotion, power, and just relatable aspects. The music brings out the emotion of the movies. You have to feel the music. Feel it and understand it. Feel the goosebumps that go through your body when a beat drops. Now that’s the pure joy and emotion of music.
I totally agree! Like I really wanted to feel this music and I realized while listening to it with noise canceling headphones that my pleasure doesn’t just come from the sound, I love seeing all the aspects of this piece, especially when musicians like that soloist are so invested. It’s just so much more magical. I honestly would encourage anyone to see music performed live (specifically orchestras and symphonies) before writing off instrumental music because it’s just so lively no matter what and always carries a certain confidence with it!
9:28 when the violinist looks over at the other people playing and just smiles... this piece sounds so good because the musicians love to play it :) soooo good
I wish they did the test drive music in sync with the actual clip, the test drive sequence is my favourite part of the movie, just brings tears to your eyes
Yes the soundtrack was beautiful, but only a number of people can truly understand the gorgeous of the orchestra. The combination of strings, woodwind, brass, choir, and many others, only masterpiece can analysis the beauty of this orchestra.
Thank you. It's breathtaking to me (violinist going on 11 years playing). The ending brings me to tears without failure every single time. Hearing the choir come in and the whole orchestra is just pushing this beautiful melody while the violins are playing through all these quick, high pitched accompaniment notes, and then coming together at the end to mirror the melody and end the entire medley. I know it seems dumb, but playing the HTTYD OST/a medley of some sorts in a professional orchestra is my lifelong dream.
I'm was/am a classical violinist and a choral singer up through university. This score is up there with Howard Shore's Lord of the Rings in terms of technical achievement and beauty.
That’s why I love orchestras. All the different instruments combined that make such an epic song. It makes me want to pick up violin again, bc imagine how it would feel playing a part in something like this :’)
This gives me chills. HTTYD is the best franchise ever. I could talk all day about how amazing the whole thing is. Ok now I'm starting to cry this soundtrack is THE BEST.
I don't think I've watched the first one in like 2 years (gonna watch it this week now obviously) so this got me emotional just remembering the scenes and stuff. But I'm also very sad because the next one is the last
nostalgia, i felt it too :( i remember these movies and my love for them and now i go outside and im not happy with what i see so i go back inside and come listen to this.
It's not nostalgia, because I felt the same way first hearing the songs. It's because the music is very powerful and the story is so simple and well told. HTTYD is not one of the greatest animated films of all time, it's one of the greatest FILMS of all time, period. An absolute masterpiece. To be able to make a grown (jaded) man's hair on the back of his neck stand up is an impressive feat. The characterisation of Toothless and Hiccup, they're genuinely portrayed friendship, the building of trust between them.... It's all just phenomenal. And the music does what a great movie soundtrack is supposed to do, emphase all the stuff that is going on without overshadowing the performances onscreen.
Husband just sent me this. Dragons was a huge part of out lives for 11 years, he worked on all three as one of the Supervising animators.. Never been able to get through the soundtrack without crying. So now we're both at work crying 😄 Thank God he has an office and I'm WFH..

And notes! Their books have all the vocal music together, so they can see their own notes and also those of the other singers. And it would have cues for other things happening while they are not singing, so they can see their entrances coming and get ready to sing at the right places.

Feeling the excitement and happiness of playing a piece you love wholeheartedly is an amazing experience especially if you can feel the excitement of others in the orchestra/band
i cry when i play in my orchestra httyd
2:41 honestly the most beautiful part

Who is also here in 2024? I love this soundtrack and it could have not been played better! That was amazing!!
9:28 when the violinist looks over at the other people playing and just smiles... this piece sounds so good because the musicians love to play it :) soooo good

It really is a masterpiece (14 year old trombone and piano player. Wish I could get my orchestra teacher to let us play this)
Well played it myself (Not this Medley) in orchestra once, (12 years french Horn) and I have to say its beautiful
I'm was/am a classical violinist and a choral singer up through university. This score is up there with Howard Shore's Lord of the Rings in terms of technical achievement and beauty.
That’s why I love orchestras. All the different instruments combined that make such an epic song. It makes me want to pick up violin again, bc imagine how it would feel playing a part in something like this :’)

nostalgia, i felt it too :( i remember these movies and my love for them and now i go outside and im not happy with what i see so i go back inside and come listen to this.
