The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

The Beatles thought this song wasn't something for them. Imagine being able to give away hit songs and still have plenty.
Only they could afford to do that lol!!!
@@boulevardblueband They did it before they made it big.
Billy J definitely benefited from John and Paul. "I'll Keep You Satisfied" went to #4 in the UK and was Top 30 in US. "I'll Be On My Way" peaked at #2 in the UK and "From A Window" just reached #10 in the UK
@@garyrasberryjr.552 They helped a lot of the other British acts. Even the stones did I wanna be your man. Though they were fine.
Doesn't sound like a Beatles song. Probably why he gave it away
i HAVE LOVED HIM A LIFETIME........He's 80 2024 and I will forever and a day love him
WHERE IS LIVE BILLY K?
Happy 82nd birthday to the writer of this song, John Lennon! ❤🎶🎸🎤
And Paul Mccartney
That guy wrote a lot of songs
I believe he passed away. Quite some time ago.
@@johnkrieger185 murdered in 1980.
You think 🤔
Lennon-McCartney song
When I was a kid I thought this was the Beatles.
Credited to Lennon/McCartney but Paul has always said John wrote the song by himself.
@@mikerichardson4618 I asked the Dakotas, and they claimed it was co written by John and Paul. But it sounds very John to me.
The first time I heard this i was like
*John and Paul wrote this*
Yeah, it's so Lennon-McCartney that it almost sounds more Lennon-McCartney than Lennon-McCartney if you know what I mean. Hard to imagine that they gave away such a beautiful song.
@@paulbrennan4163 They would have had about five more top ten Songs in 1964 had they kept all their songs to themselves.
@@paulbrennan4163
Beatles sing this too.
@@sheilamorgan3845 yeah it's so beautiful
@@ashith1297
I really like that song. Even though Paul McCartney wrote that too we do not see a page full of people saying Paul McCartney wrote that like they did when Peter and Gordon sang a song written by Paul McCartney.
Why wasn't Billy J Kramer of the Dakota's a great superstar instead of just a one hit wonder man. He had a great voice and certainly had the looks he could have put to great use even making movies like Elvis.
He had a few hits in Britain, so not really a 1 hit wonder.
@@imgoingtocountdownfromthir4580 i'd say he had 4 big records in USA
And it's live...NOT Memorex....
😢😢😢 beatles

CLASSIC JAGGER - RICHARDS TUNE !
one of those groups that couldn't write their own material.
They played live, without monitors or earpieces. Probably through the house PA, but still...A lot of today's bands couldn't do that.
Beatles wrote this song.
@@sheilamorgan3845 who asked?
@@kthevsamig4958
Same people who did not ask about the Beatles writing Peter and Gordon songs. Why are you asking who asked?
I like Billy Joe cream I still listen to her I'm a senior citizen too to this day I never get tired of this song
@@kthevsamig4958 dude what are you? 5 years old??
Now THATS the Mersey beat for sure👍
The Beatles... Lennon and McCartney. They gave away two of their best songs to Billy J. Kramer and Peter & Gordon. This one, "Bad to me" and "A world without love". Both wonderful no.1 hits that could have been highlights for the Beatles if they had used them on their own.
man those were the days, the music, the clothes and the new miniskirts
The Dakotas were a good band.
Beatles wrote this song.
@@sheilamorgan3845 no one cares
@@kthevsamig4958
No one cared Beatles wrote Peter and Gordon's songs either. But they sure let us know. People that don't care don't make remarks.
The drummer is also the unsung hero in this tune...nice tasty little fills on top, while holding down a catchy groove.......
nice guy tony the drummer i see him every month or so always have good chat to him about the good old days
@@ptgillam yeah, alot of drummers tend to be overlooked. Especially when they are such an integral part of the music.
I believe he’s Ellie Brooks’ brother.
John Lennon wrote it for Billy while he was on vacation in Spain.
Thank you for not colorizing the vintage black and white videotape footage. I'm a fan of old HQ black and white Quad videotape clips.
I remember this like it was yesterday!!! Ed Sullivan always featured the top British Ivasion groups.
Thanks for posting.
Fun fact: He was Managed Brain Epstein the same manager as the Beatles
Another gem by Lennon.
🇧🇷♥️👏👏👏👏👏
Wonderful example of Merseybeat performed live by a great band and singer.
Sounding this good live? Shows how talented they were...
they're even better on the T.A.M.I. show. look it up on youtube. it's an amazing rocking performance.
Yeah, they were a very good band. No question.
A great The Beatles' song.
@@sheilamorgan3845 Muy cierto, tiene el ritmo muy parecido a el de Peter and Gordon. El tipo de música
@@charlyrubio897
I have no clue what you are saying. Really doesn't matter. This was a subject from a year ago.
@@charlyrubio897 Las canciones de Peter and Gordon son canciones que regalaba Paul McCartney ya que la hermana de Peter era la novia de Paul en aquél momento, Bad to Me es una creación de John Lennon no de Paul.
I recently found out that it turns out that John Lennon wrote this song! I am a beatleman with 30 years of experience and did not know this fact! It's crazy..
A truly live performance!
When musical acts had actual talent.
Some nice guitar work......
Yet another great Lennon/ McCARTHY SONG......AMAZING
Flip side of their first hit "Little Children". Both went top 10 in the USA. I was just 10 but remember those days like yesterday.
In 1964 I was 11, and I was NEVER a Beatles fan! Even at that young age I could see the MASSIVE FAKEness of "Beatlemania'! "Bad To Me" was one of my GOAT songs! I was also a huge fan of Herman's Hermits!
@@mr.blackhawk142 At the time I thought they were OK but I didn't think the Beatles were a bigger deal than other groups. The Beatlemania thing fizzled out like anything else usually does and by 1966 they weren't entirely welcome as that last tour was a disaster. I liked the Hermits too btw.
@@mr.blackhawk142Bad to ne was a Lennon/McCartney song though, all great songs from that time, my sister In law is Pete Noone of Herman Hemits cousin.
It was the Philippines because they didn't come to the show where the President's wife hosted a show.@@muffs55mercury61
"Bad to me" isn't really a beatles record there's an audio recording for it from the early beatles because they really were just a startup band, and also the Beatles appreciated their music from Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Etc. Chuck Berry liked their appreciation the only problem is just from the Publishers, and once years passed they started to write their own songs and get their inspirations from Legends, and also the Beatle's shows were agreed by the Songwriters to perform in the Beatlemania like Roll Over Beethoven by Chuck Berry, Long tall sally by Little Richard, and they didn't perform any Billy J Kramer's song in the Beatlemania so I don't know what you're talking about in the fakeness.@@mr.blackhawk142
Liverpool singer with a Manchester band backing him up.
Saw him perform at a Beatlefest back in the 80's.
Classic tune
A sleeper from the shank of the English Invasion. Snappy tune, candy-coated, but I love it too much!
I Love the Beatsound.
Brian Epstien managed Billy J. Kramer & The Dakotas and The Cyrkle.
I think this song is great he is absolutely amazing a good looking man ❤️💋
i loved bill j. i saw him live. but hes singing these songs. too fast.
Ray Jones left The Dakotas in 1964 , Mick Green came on guitar Robin Mc Donald switched to bass
Mick and Robin, both wonderful musicians and both are gone.
just adorable..sweetest song
Crappy yet enjoyable song
This one was written by John Lennon. I wish the Beatles had covered it with John Lennon singing solo lead!
There's a version by John available on RUclips
Phenomenal track.
I wonder what todays feminists will think about all the screaming! If it bothers them then I will get a laugh at least!
Linda voz!!!
Oooh look how hard you are 😂😂😭
No point there at all !
YEA HARD TODAY IF THATS THE VOICE FROM THE ARTIST OR AI TECHNOLOGY. SAD TO SEE IT GOFROM THE GREATEST DECADE.
One of the greatest songs of the 60s.
And the Beatles wrote it!
Great stuff.Loved the sixties
There are several singers which benefitted from Lennon-McCartney song writing skills in the 60s....
Another great Scouser
Nice John Lennon song. Often wondered why Billy didn't change his hairstyle. He he is in 1965 still looking like 1959.
'Cause he didn't want to, simple as it
It was still a in style hair cut in 65
@@califdad4 Not for a British pop star
@@SuperMikecarp it's a clean cut look and they're in suits, it's different but a look that was still being done in 1965. He lives in the USA still today had a radio show for some years, last I saw keeps his hair on the long side

He looks slick…..he’s in charge.
Great memories
There is dvd with tuesday weld.called rock, rock, rock.great prebrit invasion.teddy randazzo.looks just like Billy j. Kramer same stage presence and singing style.same mannerisms.
Another Lennon/McCartney original...
another cracking tune
It's no use but I would give anything to go back to '64. My life would be different.
He looks like Andy Kaufman
The voice sounds like Andy’s as well
he was a rebel against the Beatle Mop Top Hair Fad......he looks like an English version of Elvis
One of the earliest Jangle pop songs
Mas gusto ko ang version ng The beatles ms maindak
Great song!
I like how The dakotas are a Low tempo Version of the beatles🎉

It was revenue for John and Paul

What a fantastic performance
Saw a bird that seemed to be sick when i was walking today, but later came back to see if it was Ok, and it looked better and tomorrow first thing I will go see if it is ok, as I so love our nature, and if it is not there, it will have flown away and will be OK...god bless, and tomorrow I will help if needs be...I so love nature...thank you Lord for all our living creaturesXXX
im writing a song based on your comment now:)
Any names we might recognize from the members of the Dakota's? Basically, they are performing a Beatles' song.
The line-up at that time was: Robin MacDonald, Ray Jones, Mike Maxfield, Tony Mansfield (Bookbinder).
@@hanno-erdmanntietz8424 Thanks.....they were as someone notes below played this live; they were plugged in. They weren't fakers. Great sound, and great material, chord patterns, voicings, etc. to work with.
Good work, butm while he's playing great ... the bassist has record exec hair.
Love this video!!
Early Depeche liked the visual style.
And they say Beatles was slick pop.
I thought this song was dead.
After hearing the beatles, I can't hear artist singin' without playing you'r own instruments.
Another Lennon Mc Csrtney song that was given away to other artist.
Better looking than Elvis
Why are some of these uploaded clips so poorly transferred from videotape (or DVD) to digital mp4 files? This looks like a 240p upload.
Were they supposed to be clearer??

Andy Kaufman made a career doing this look/act… Latka not far away either. But rockin’ Andy, yup here’s the source.
God I can’t unsee it now. Even the voice haha
Is this a John Lennon song?.I think i heard a Beatles versiion.
Yes
The sound mixer guy should go back to school. This was the most life less production I've ever heard. Poor Mick Green on the white Telecaster to the left is "castrated" . But - he sure took a Sound revenge with his Pirates!
Mick green hadn't joined at this point, still Rob McDonald on guitar stage left.
Andy Pennance is right about Mick. I should know, i was there. :-)
His sister was elkie Brooks
Thank you
Elkie Brooks' real name was Elaine Bookbinder and she was not related to Billy J. Kramer. However, her brother was a drummer for Billy J. Kramer.
This looks a crazy amount like Donald J Trump, looks like he looked as a young man
now just imagine if this was the beatles performing instead. would be magical
NOT
@@mr.blackhawk142the beatles wrote it
NOTHING like my favorite artists performing LIVE on Ed's show. Great arrangement of course, though I do miss the harpischord.
Actually, on the recording the solo and fills were played on a piano (played by George Martin) recorded half speed and played back double speed doubled along with a guitar.
Martin also did this on other BJK recordings as well as on Beatle recordings like “A hard days night”
with Harrison on guitar. He did something similar on “In my life” where he played 2 piano tracks recorded half speed and played back
normal speed.. so it’s an octave higher and double the speed that he actually played. That sounds even more like a harpsichord.
the sound is good but his voice is boring
He absolutely never had the ‘It’ factor.
That's tragically bad. Zero merit.
Meh
This is WILD!!! WILD 60s PUNK!!
