Here I’m a Singaporean (nationality), Chinese (ethnicity) with an English name “Darren” which appears to have Irish origins. I can speak English, Mandarin, Korean & some other mandarin dialects that are spoken in HK & TW so what does that make me? Crazy to see so many people being able to speak a second language in other countries compared to the US despite it being mandatory for students to complete years of second language classes.
its not that crazy. Learning english provides far greater opportunities to communicate because almost the entire planet learns english. It would be most of a hobby for people in the US to learn a second language

I helped many tourist where I live out even koreans and I spoke english to them, but we speak German here in Austria^^. I even saw Seulgi and Wendy but they can‘t speak German tho 😂

Do they really. I've been learning mandarin for a month and can speak the very basic you know. Greet, introduce myself, ask for most drinks, foods, and greetings so far and a native has never ever made fun of me or mock me. In fact they always have a huge smile on their face when they see a Hispanic American wanting to learn their native tongue. They never even correct me no matter how shit I say it. I always do ask tho if I said everything right and ask for help if they could barely understand. You do get made fun of tho if you're parents are from any Asian country and can't speak the language fluently

Im learning korean myself along with some of my friends but the rest of my friends don't understand the korean culture as much as I do and will make jokes about learning a different language
