    I hate how media speaks of them as rivals & some people here think they are "mocking" they are just playing around , they were FRIENDS! did you know the Beatles wrote first hit single of Stones? Did you know mick jagger & keith richard were part of the crowd at the Beatles shea Stadium gig? Did you know Keith Richard was part of "yellow submarine" during "Revolver"sessions? Did you know Mick jagger appears in "All you need is Love"? BEATLES AND ROLLING STONES WERE FRIENDS NOT FOES , THEY ARE JUST SINGING HERE

      @lauraandrew7440 Come on! John said a lot of things tongue in cheek. Actually, John was really good friends with the Stones, esp Keith. They hung out together, back in the day. Read Richards' bio Life. John and Mick used to go sailing on John's boat on Long Island in the '70s. On one occasion, after a few vodkas, Mick told him the songs that he would do for John's Rock and Roll album. These guys were never 'enemies'.

    This clip is special in that Mick, Keith, etc. are horsing around on Beatles tunes; it's done with an affection that I'm not for certain they even realized at the time - it's well established that both bands were "mates", we all know that John & Paul wrote "I wanna be your man" for them to use, thus helping establish the Rolling Stones in their own right as a musical force...this is a heartfelt little clip, and John & Paul helped jump start the Mick/Keith songwriting duo. There is a real beauty in those early compositions Mick & Keith did back in '63, '64, etc. as they learned how to write & work together - "Blue Turns to Grey", "Sad Day", "Singer Not the Song", "I'm Free", etc. they were finding themselves and one another back in those early days. The Beatles & Rolling Stones were both the best at what they did, and I love them both equally.

    In the week of April 04, 1964, the top five songs in the American Top 40 were: (5) Please Please Me - Beatles; (4) I Want To Hold Your Hand - Beatles; (3) She Loves You - Beatles; (2) Twist and Shout - Beatles; (1) Can't Buy Me Love - Beatles. They dominated the charts as no other band or act ever had. The Stones happened a few months later, with long hair, English accents, and minor hits.

      Until the Beatles discovered them, loved their work, became friends and gave them a gentle nudge to find their own voice. The Beatles were great musicians, but they were awesome songwriters. The Stones werent exactly terrible. Charlie Watts and Bill Wymann were a good pairing, Keith was the riffmaster and Brian could play many instruments. Mick is one of the greatest frontmen of all time. The Stones music has aged well. These 2 are the greatest bands of all time.

    Any guitarist who has any musically trained ear at all would be able to play this. Of course, Richards knows the chords, it is a simple song. Playing this by ear would not be a challenge for many people that have any kind of an ear at all.

    • @urwholefamilydied
      @urwholefamilydied 7 лет назад +3

      Richards isn't a great guitarist. He plays simple blues songs. Especially at this time he wasn't some guitar genius. Ya, pretty simple chords to this song... but still, he could come up with the chords... but they pretend like they don't know the lyrics? Point is... they obviously know the song and the melody. But pretend not to know even the opening lyric? Pretentious liars. At least give some props to a band that helped you out in the early days, instead of taking a piss on their music. And it's a good song they were making fun of. Go dance around on stage more jagger to get attention cause your songs weren't enough by themselves.

    Everybody likes what they like, I like rock and roll and rhythm and blues, if I want to listen to classical music I will go to the classical section, The Beatles try to make rock and roll into Beethoven O Bach, the Rolling Stones stayed true to their music. When Mick Taylor was with them ,they had it all , the Beatles were great singers and song writers ,not players.

    This kinda stuff annoys me. I've heard the stones take the piss on the beatles many times... but they forget that the beatles liked them and were friends with them... they remained friends. The beatles wrote one of their early singles to HELP them out cause they liked them. On top of that, there would be no stones without the beatles. Like anyone gave a fuck about British bands doing R&B or Blues stuff in '62? Epstein and the Beatles exhausted every label in england, WITH original material and everyone said NO. Stones didn't even have original material. Like the Stones could have walked into a record label in 63 with their blues covers and been signed, let alone made it in america? But you never once have heard the stones giving the beatles props for paving the way for other british artists like themselves. Or thanked the beatles for helping them out in the early days. The first 3 stones albums are a joke besides a couple likeable songs here and there and only 2 or 3 originals? I like a lot of their music, but they're pretentious assholes who think they're the best not realizing they owe a lot to what the beatles did for british bands and for them personally.

      I'm not british... I live in LA and was raised in Michigan. The other one off the top of my head is Keith did a guitar interview about his main telecaster, and he had a couple snarky remarks about the beatles being jealous of them getting big. Wish I could remember the exact video but can't recall and am not going to hunt it down. The beatles were never the ones to diss on the stones cause they were jealous... that's laughable coming from the biggest band in the world... the beatles were jealous? The story makes a lot more sense that an arrogant rock band (the stones) were always in the shadow of the beatles... ya, which one do you think is going to be jealous. Beatles being jealous of the stones.. give me a break. I doubt they thought about the stones very much at all.

    • @steveconn
      @steveconn 7 лет назад +5

      Every band that doesn't smile, wear matching suits or sing happy pop fluff owes their existence to the Stones. Far more bands than the Beatles influenced, when you think about it (and many of the Beatles 1963-5 boyband originals are completely sappy and forgettable).

    • @urwholefamilydied
      @urwholefamilydied 7 лет назад +7

      are you kidding? The beatles wore suits for one year at the suggestion of Epstein unfortunately. They were wearing leather and tight pants when the ramones were babies. The beatles used a sitar, and then the stones used a sitar. The beatles had the heaviest song in the world (helter skelter) for many years... not sure when that one was topped, if ever. Go listen to jumping jack flash again, and bowie and jagger making out to "dancing in the streets".
