The original anime is by far superior to this remake. The art style is much better, the ost from the original anime is perfection. The remake combat is more fluid but it doesn't make it better. The 90s animes are simply unmatched.
I dislike the voice actor for Kenshin in this one his voice sounds funny. Missed the old voice actor of Kenshin who I think suits Himura Kenshin better.
The fighting scenes artwork is more colorful and HD but lacks the dramatic timing and grittiness of the originals. And the music has no substance. The original anime fights and music were like synced. Climax of the song when it was the climax of the fight, etc
I have to agree with that. I mean the new version is decent, but the original is just on another level. The feels, the gore, the artstyle, the soundtracks are just top notch quality.

It's just not as good as the old 90s classic, but that doesn't make it bad by any stretch. There has to be some middle ground between Actual Masterpiece of 90s Anime and This Show is A Dumpster Fire and A Betrayal Of The Fans. I give the remake a solid B-, worth watching if you hadn't seen it before but by no means a must-watch. And who knows? It might get some people into a good series who never grew up with the original. That alone makes it okay by me.

Aoshi's technique makes absolutely no sense whatsoever The lore reason is that his movement is so *fluid* that humans can't track it. The problem is running water is also fluid and people can track it just fine.

If your soul crave the old OST and the philosophical conversations, go watch the OG one and stop comparing and complaining. Definitely great action although the appearance seems less gritty for the moment and the atmosphere seems too bright to match the edge each one has out against each other. Awesome scene and Kenshin showing his skills to grow even greater in his sword mastery
Man i seen people get cut down to the bone when mishandling swords. But kenshin just grabs the edge, bleeds a bit, and walks away with full function instead of losing fingers or cutting tendons
While grabbing the sword being swung at him like that without gloves is not realistic, him holding his own sword by the blade is 100% doable and usable, even barehanded. Usually this was done to either strike with the pommel/guard as a bludgeoning tool, or to get a more fine grip further down the blade to precisely aim into a helmet visor, or armor joint etc. When held correctly, even without gloves, you can whack things really hard, and not cut yourself.
You COULD probably do a sword grab, that cuts into you a bit, for one move if angled right. But you ever tried to rip string barehanded? *Don't.* It's a good way to lose all your fingers A sharp weapon made to carve bone? Say good bye to your fingers, specially if a "saw" motion is done _with_ pressure.
@@ElKabong3345 To be fair, losing an arm/fingers probably beats getting your chest sliced open or head caved in/chopped off/fucked up. But you wouldnt grab like this, youd be sacrificing your arm intentionally. With proper gloves, you could probably grab it, but thats going to be before the swing really starts, and towards the center/base of the sword where it has the least energy.

The remake has an epic musical theme, but it is literally ONE for all the fight scenes. And when it is repeated over and over again, it becomes sickening. Old anime had a huge variety of awesome theme songs.
Same here. He already knows the Double Kodachi style at this point because he was taught by the previous Okashira. So him using one Kodachi seems to be a handicap. In universe, its explained that he switches to the style later after re training himself for six months. How he acquired the longer sheath and the concealed second (and slightly shorter) blade is never really touched upon. But based on Okina's reaction during their fight, he does know that Aoshi is an expert at both the one and two handed Kodachi styles plus kempo.

In-universe, its explained that this took place about half a year after Kenshin and his friends stormed Kanryu's mansion. Saito gives him the details and it takes them half a day to finish talking and he unsuccessfully convinces Aoshi to go to Kyoto. Sojiro was listening in and uses what he learns to bait Aoshi by having the 4 giant goons of Shishio attack Aoshi and he somewhat successfully gets Aoshi to go to Kyoto.
many younger people refuse to watch old anime. this is great for the anime overall. we already watched the original. so, idk about you but i'm good and enjoy rewatching this too
As far as the plot is concerned? Definitely. There are whole huge chunks of the original show that were anime original just missing from this. I'm not really mad about that. Extra moves? That would be because in the manga there were no moves. It was static images, my guy.

Yo creo que precisamente el contraste comedia/drama hacía que el drama fuera mucho más fuerte. La animación aquí es más fluida, si, pero el arte de la de los 90 tenía mucha personalidad en comparación. Ambas son buenas series, pero la antigua tenía mucho más corazón. Lo bueno de esta es que adapta el manga y para los que no lo leyeron podrán ver la historia original como estaba destinada a ser.
I'm super tired of modern anime that just try to throw a flashy coat of paint on something and call it a "better product." Not taking into account how well the older stuff seamlesly blended together action, music, and dialogue to form a cohesive vision.
*sigh* Sadly, the updated art style does not make up for all the other deficiencies. The tension, the unpredictability, the anticipation, all of it is gone. Now it feels like it wants to get through the events as soon as possible, instead of feeling like it cares how it presents itself.

That's a failure of the original manga too, sadly. At least we're unlikely to fall into the filler seasons with the Feng Shui sorcerors this time around...

I don't know why, but the original fights looked better somehow. Usually id say its just my nostalgia filter but i really feel like the director of the old fights was more dramatic and artistic in their direction. The Kyoto trailers look like the fight improved though so im still hopeful
That was beautiful and they did it without abusing the old version of the series like they did with the new Tri-gun. However the newer animation style seems stiff and stale and this is a characteristic of the new animes compared to the mid 90's to 2010.
Gonna have to hard disagree on the stiffness and staleness. Old anime had a LOT of standing around staring at each other and repeated stock animations. Probably more than you are remembering.
I definitely like the original art style better, and yes this animation is a little bit more fluid but it's not exactly on the level of JJK or Demon Slayer. So I would likely just rewatch the original.
It seems I'm not alone, the animation is better, but the sound design is lacking. Hot take but anime osts should stop focusing on making long extensive suits for characters, and instead make short bite sized music loops that can be listened to within a minute, 2 minutes at most. However I do understand why some anime can't do that, because anime makes most of its money via merchandise, DVD/Blu Ray sales second.
I wish Kenshin's master was the lead character of this anime. A real bad ass. Bad guys need to be cut down the way he did it when he found Kenshin. Kenshin fights with too much emotions and just seems weak against tough competition even when he wins.
Aoshi is lucky Kenshin wasn't the battousi with a real Katana. Otherwise, none of them would have stood a chance. He'd chop their head off within seconds.

The 90s series is a million times better. It's a shame to see how a low-production anime has people who like it... they practically don't know about art.
Man as someone who didnt grow up with Ranma or kenshin and saw them later cause I was not born in the 90s, these adaptation just lose something everything is so clean looking all the time the lighting is always even, even when it is supposed to be dark, the shading is so flat, you never get anything that is remotely a identity that makes the product stand out, the music is always so lame as well compared to the 90s versions just so generic. It doesnt feel like anyone had any passion behind the project, yeah the animation is good but I mean but like the 90s managed to somehow capture so many people with limited animation because it went for style over substance which enhanced those story elements, I am more disappointed than anything cause this really could've made itself "thee" version to watch instead of "a" version to.
It is THE version to watch especially when the final arc gets animated in this lmao. You can dislike it whatever but it is definitely a better adaptation than the 90s anime if you read the manga you would know

I wish Kenshin's master was the lead character of this anime. A real bad ass. Bad guys need to be cut down the way he did it when he found Kenshin. Kenshin fights with too much emotions and just seems weak against tough competition even when he wins.

Man as someone who didnt grow up with Ranma or kenshin and saw them later cause I was not born in the 90s, these adaptation just lose something everything is so clean looking all the time the lighting is always even, even when it is supposed to be dark, the shading is so flat, you never get anything that is remotely a identity that makes the product stand out, the music is always so lame as well compared to the 90s versions just so generic. It doesnt feel like anyone had any passion behind the project, yeah the animation is good but I mean but like the 90s managed to somehow capture so many people with limited animation because it went for style over substance which enhanced those story elements, I am more disappointed than anything cause this really could've made itself "thee" version to watch instead of "a" version to.
It is THE version to watch especially when the final arc gets animated in this lmao. You can dislike it whatever but it is definitely a better adaptation than the 90s anime if you read the manga you would know
