What an amazing performance, and how very wonderful that it has been made available publicly. In my opinion Franco Corelli was, by far, the most extraordinary of tenors. I have never heard his equal.
Power, integrity, humility, honesty, wrapped up in one word, beauty. Of the voice, of the man. There are critics of him and I acknowledge their undoubted erudite opinions, but, to me, Franco was the greatest tenor of the 20th century. No other tenor conveys to me the meaning of the word 'heroic'. He is, tenor as hero, unsurpassed in the power and beauty of his singing.
Chris, yes. he is almost unbelievable in his human wonder. erudite means nothing. human power and surpassing beauty and the innocence to share it with us unashamed and unembarrassed - THAT is worth something. Everything.
this performance shows sadly what we miss today so much: real artists with deep souls ! and no computer will ever be able to do this! Great souls live forever! Corelli lived his God given talent to the best! What a gift he left us --real food for our souls ! Grazie mille, grande maestro !!!!
It's touching to see how he is sooo insecure, uptight and nervous at the beginning of the concert and how he is getting more and more rrelaxed up to a point where he shows his gorgeous smile at the very end, when the frenetic ovations of the audience have reasured him of its great pleasure and of his success.
WOW... I was a student of Jerome Heinz who was one of Francos best friends. Got to know him a little. I’m just gonna come out and say this and I’m sure I’m going to get blasted for it. I never heard another Tenor that could match him on top. Was just huge and piercing and he made it look like it was Ez. The world is waiting for another 6 foot three Tenor with tremendous high notes and voice that looks like James Bond. Probably going to have to wait for a long while though. And to add a note to the many enthusiastic accolades below, let me say that King Corelli's sublime encore performance of "Core n'grato" has such expressive power, it will surely tear your heart out!
At times I've come upon recordings by Corelli and wondered what all the fuss was about. But now I understand; this concert says it all! Che magnifico!!
Franco had the most powerful beautiful tenor voice of any tenor voice I have ever heard. He had a very secure upper register and could sing the most sublime diminuendi and always sang from the heart with expression and feeling more than any other tenor I have listened to . Corelli was the complete package.
@@numetutelare Certainly, Corelli Tucker and Del Monaco all had large enough voices to fill any theater. I never heard Tucker live, but a friend of mine tells me that his top was larger than Corelli's and perhaps MDM's as well. However Tucker's center register was not as large as the 2 tenor's. I saw Corelli circa 1962 at the Met in Trovatore. He was thrilling and the voice did fill the theater. I saw MDM a year later at a recital at Carnegie Hall. His voice was better live and Larger than Corelli's top to bottom. A 91 year old friend of mine who died a few years ago, told me that Gino Penno's voice might have been the largest middle center voice he ever heard. My father saw Lauri Volpi in Italy several times and said that his voice traveled "vibrations"further than any tenor He ever heard. Other great large voices were Zenatello, Martinelli, Slezak, Filippeschi and Melchior. But I obviously never heard them in the theater. Enjoy
@@numetutelare The most powerful voice to me was Del Monaco. In an interview here on YT, Corelli, Zucker and Hines talking about MDM, Jerome Hines states that upon hearing Del Monaco for the first time in 1951 in an Aida rehearsal at the Met. " It was the most Gigantic sound I ever heard anywhere" and the rest of the cast watched with their mouths opened. I'm I right Franco? Corelli replied " It's true, It's true.

The applause for Franco Corelli will go on to the end of time.
I heard a few comments on here saying he messed up his lyrics, Big freaken deal!!! Who hasn't messed up on lyrics?? As gkreno1 said This is singing!!! God bless him!!
Who cares about the lyrics!! Look at that GORGEOUS man & listen to that Voice of Pure Liquid Gold!!
Who is watching in time of corona epidemic?
Me. I am watching and taking great comfort in a genius shared.
Me. In south korea, i am watching. Franco was the world best singer.
I’m watching post corona, in Rotterdam , the Netherlands from Australia
Excellent! What a voice! Still no one can beat him. Thank you for uploading this video. I wish I was born 20 years earlier to listen to this performance live!!!
You will hear him again I hope we plan to bring him back as a hologram live in concert with Maria Callas
IMMENSO❤️❤️❤️
And to add a note to the many enthusiastic accolades below, let me say that King Corelli's sublime encore performance of "Core n'grato" has such expressive power, it will surely tear your heart out!
At times I've come upon recordings by Corelli and wondered what all the fuss was about. But now I understand; this concert says it all!

Franco had the most powerful beautiful tenor voice of any tenor voice I have ever heard. He had a very secure upper register and could sing the most sublime diminuendi and always sang from the heart with expression and feeling more than any other tenor I have listened to . Corelli was the complete package.
Yes indeed!
Powerful yes, most powerful no, But maybe the most powerful you ever heard
@@sugarbist Who is most powerful for you ?
What a voice and what an amazing personality and he looks wow!!!!!!
We women love his very virile rendition of "Che gelida manina" What an artist!
WE women or just YOU woman?
Your definition of what little it takes to make an artist is most original.
@@arepo Better stick to ballet if you don't understand...

@@leonoradelagardie Dear Leonora, after more than an year silence, you come back with such a platitude?! It may come as an unwelcome surprise to people like you who don't understand either art form, and watch singers just to get their erotic fill, but there are people like me who understand both art forms, opera AND ballet. Hold on onto the idea and try not to buckle under the weight of the revelation.
Sorry to hurt your feelings
@@leonoradelagardie Dear Leonora, you are confused. I am not hurt. YOUR feelings are hurt, otherwise you wouldn't have replied to my making fun or your ridiculous definition of what makes an artist, you would have simply ignored me. You didn't ignore me. You were so hurt it was worth to you to reply after a year. Not only is your definition of "artist" most entertaining for those who understand something of opera, your logic is also most entertaining for... well to practically anyone who went to school and didn't sleep through classes.
The ultimate musical instrument .it overshadows all .this voice is unique
Thank you for the Wonderful Treat ❤️
Commovente!
Grazie ❤️❤️

Come Corelli ne nascono uno ogni cento anni. Grande Franco 👏👏👏

A GREAT man, a great singer
Amazing concert! Great to see how he changes and gets confidence from the horrible start (he get the lyrics wrong and get nervous) to the amazing finish (that diminuendo at 47:11!!!!). Thanks for posting
Learning so much from this even though I’m a baritone. Awesome opera singer.
Bravo Chris Simmonds. Best of the 20th century. Glorious voice and heroic
