I had one just like that. It weighed a TON! If you just put on the front break you went right over the handle bars. Good times!

Chad I got a 72 Orange Krate for my 9th birthday. My dad grew up very poor so as he started making money he spoiled us with everything he never had as a kid. He equipped it much like yours plus my rear tail light had turn signals. He also had dual checkered flag mirrors and a horn. I think it cost close to $200. I used and abused it and sadly it was garage saled before a appreciated how cool it was. I’ve been looking also. I do have a repop Grey Ghost and a very original 68 Sting Ray that is exactly like my first bike. Enjoy it, it’s an awesome find, TR

Those were rare as hen’s teeth back in the day, somebody loved it and I bet it never saw any water that wasn’t warm and soapy. Great find, congrats!

I can't see putting that much emotion, time and energy into something thats basically a childs bicycle. I had a bare bones green coaster brake pea picker with the rear base coaster brake and drag slick from 1967 at 12 years old, got stolen 2 years later. Was more interested in my Makaha scateboard and thought nothing of riding 5 miles onto the main blvds in town in Long beach Ca.

I loved the Sting Ray and all their variants. I rode friends' bikes and found that I had to pedal faster than on my 26" bike. But, I thought they were the best looking bike ever made.
Congratulations on obtaining that piece of history.👍

Chad you forgot mention that they made the front sprocket to look exactly like a mag wheel. Very cool!

Cool Chad, I believe I had a knock off of those back in the 70s. I was from a family of 8 and a lot of hand me downs.

The cost of middle class living in 1972 was much better/cheaper than today.. remember we had no internet, cell phone, cable tv and other expenses..that we need today... the ratio was much better back then. I dont think many people owned credit cards back then either... totally different world.

Nice Viper! The Krates still are a week and a half salary, lol. I just dropped $1800 on a '71 Orange Krate. No speedo on it but I have a correct NOS one for it. I've always liked the Pea Pickers but I haven't seen one for sale for years.

Being a farm kid in South Dakota back in the 60's. I never even heard or saw one of these. However recently at a swap meet in AZ, there was a Pea Picker for sale. It was very nice but I don't know what year it was and can't remember now how optioned it was. I never bothered to ask the price. Now I wish I had. Glad you finally got a great "keeper". I am waiting for the video of you riding this around the yard.

Flip it over and look at the bottom of the pedal assembly and there will be a serial number. 🤔 will tell you everything you need to know. Nice bike. 👍

She is definitely a stunner and in amazing condition! If the tires aren't marked USA they are reproduction.
