This is an awesome vid. I saw an old Stingray at a tag sale and passed on it because the seat was in bad shape. I had no idea the original looking vinyl was available. Now I'm kicking myself for not buying it!
@@GoodTimeBikes I had a black Fastback with the 5 speed stick. My friend had a green Stingray with the slick. I liked his better. My derailleur always seemed to need adjustment.
Well I hope you track your old bike down! I love hearing stories of guys buying their old bike back later in life. Also if you get a Fastback again I’m sure a good bike shop can get it shifting properly 👍🏼
Yeo thank you for these videos. Found a 72/73 stingray with GT fan mags sitting in a boat shed just rotting away, it still looks good for a 70s bike but it’s rusty, you’re helping out a lot. Either I’m gonna paint it blue with white wall gt fan mags or green with color matching seat I’m excited
@@GoodTimeBikes it’s like a dark red blood orange. but hey for sitting for years and being submerged in water a couple times from flooding the rust isn’t that bad
That’s cool! Yes Illinois. So is it a crazy coincidence or did someone local show you my RUclips channel? I record these videos at Richards Bicycles in Palos Heights! You’ve probably been to the shop before.
Great video...I'll being doing this exact same recovering job soon. Where did you get the replacement sissy bar bushings? Something special or any good hardware store? Thx.
I have to agree with you. The old foam that I removed seems much denser and I wish I reused that instead. I still have the old foam and I’ll eventually swap it out.
Good. But out nowhere, you sprung "The material" not previously mentioned. I have several of those. Is there a "material" with a stripe down the middle? Also, does the "material" limit the foam thickness??
I bought the material from koolestuff.com and if you contact them they’ll inform you for what they have available. I wouldn’t say the vinyl cover limits the thickness of the foam. Even if you used thicker foam for added comfort it’ll be compressed some what but it would still be thicker regardless.
I used what came in the kit. It’s not thick/dense enough. If you can reuse the original foam, I recommend it. Otherwise double up the foam from the kit.
If it’s white the only thing I can think of is the Salon 40 trick. It makes yellowed materials white again. My next video includes the process of using Salon 40. I used this technique to whiten my grips.
Should have cut the fullnest out the back and pleated it. And you don't need to throw away the glue brushes. Just soak in turps overnight & wipe the turps out with a rag.
Yesterday I found a 1975 schwinn lowrider complete that was headed to the scrap yard. Thank you for this video, it's gonna come in handy
That’s awesome and it makes me happy that I can help you with this video. You’re very welcome and thank you!

My Schwinn fast back has a single pan seat. Seat post clamp is welded to the pan. I just replaced it with an after market cheapy.
Midlothian Illinois? I live 10 minutes from there. My friends mom is a police officer there.

Great job brother. Though is it possible that you could have used a little more foam on the top surface? It seems a little sparce.
Great video...I'll being doing this exact same recovering job soon. Where did you get the replacement sissy bar bushings? Something special or any good hardware store? Thx.
Can you tell me where you purchased seat cover and parts for sting ray seat. ??
Go to koolestuff.com It comes as a kit. They have touch up paint for Stingrays too which might be helpful as well
Where did you buy the sissy bar bushing?
It came in the kit from koolestsuff.com
Where do you get the rivets and the eye lids for sissie bar?
Where do you get the materials?
Contact koolestuff.com and tell them Good Time Bikes sent ya 🙂
Hey, I didnt get if you have to hold the material tight and stretch it over the pan or not? ;)
😂😂
How long is this white banana seat? 17inch? 21inch?
Thicker foam would be nice

What glue are you using?
There’s a photo of it in the video. It’s called “Sta-Put” and I got it from a local auto upholstery shop.
Is there a way to clean it? I have a 1970 Schwinn stingray 5 speed and my banana seat looks like that yellow

not worth the mess with a cheap bush
