That is probably the most sympathetic resto ive seen on YT. Clean it , straighten it , regrease it, give it a wipe of oil and you have preserved the history of that bike. Well done.
The little baby girl made the video more priceless to see. Great rebuild, can't wait to see if you are going to rebuild the other bicycle projects seen early in the video. Thank you for inspiring other people to work on their bicycles.
Good job making the bike safe and rideable and attractive without re-painting the frame and losing the old character. Well done and worth all the hard work.
That is a sweet bike! Great job on it. I'm glad you kept it mostly original. I bought a nearly complete but junk '65 Schwinn American this summer and made it into a lowrider. I will be making a video of it soon.
Great job I've been preserving patina for decades since before it was fashionable lol. I like to use a Ospho type acid over the rust before the boil linseed oil.
She looks good next to that old chevy. My favorite bikes are barn finds built on the cheap. My current ride is a 70s motobecane I found in the scrap metal pile at the dump and turned into a fixie
This was an awesome..Video on how a vintage 1960 Schwinn Spitfire was saved and Resurrected brought back to life as he left it all original.and. got it riding in the Bicycle World. Thats big and as old schwinn collector of old bicycle myself.thats MAD RESPECT!!!
Back in 1963 that was the going to school bike, paper route bike, errands bike, go places where I wasn't supposed to ride bike. It did its job very well.
Nice job, I wanna do something like that, I restored a 65 schwinn Jaguar, 68 schwinn varsity, and a 52 schwinn traveler. I also have a breeze for my wife, but I would love to do a rat rod project. Nice turn out!
Yea the corvette is a nice model, theyre really comfortable to ride one and the 3 speed is a better option than the single speed, you can kick it into high gear for a bit quicker speed or low gear for up hills. Theyre easy to get parts for on ebay too! Its worth it to restore it, theyre beutiful bikes.
good job glad you dint strip the paint off it . and saved it for another generation or 2 . alot of people would have seen the broken frame and threw it out . you should have replaced them broken spokes . and greased the hubs . but nice job .
@Oregon Patriot i think you can find schwinn wheels on amazon i know they wont be original but they will be schwinn and as close to original as your going to get now . cant wait to see the videos on that . love the old bikes.
@Oregon Patriot i get that original tires on a show bike or a wall hanger so to speak is important or if it is a museum piece . i understand how important to the builder to do it right is to . but i also understand that if its going to be a rider that tires are a small thing and most people understand that tires are the first part to wear out in most cases. if its just for you and you can live with it maybe just leave the ones on it or maybe a nice set of white walls . 250 dollars is to much money for a original tire to be rode on . like i said if its museum quality and just going to be looked at then you might have to think about that . if not run them old tires or a schwinn repop most people would never know the difference any way . you know what im saying . good luck and wish you had done videos to brother would be cool to see .
@Oregon Patriot check amazon they have schwinn replacement tires that im sure will fit . there black mountain bike style tires and they have different sizes . i think if they fit and say schwinn on them some where your golden .
@Oregon Patriot there you go buddy . like i said if your just selling it some one will buy it at some point . and they was not very popular even back then . the tank bikes were but most of the girl bikes are not as popular as the boys bikes . i dont know why . you would kinda think that girls liked cool bikes to . your best chance at selling it is hope some nice old lady sees it and had one when she was a young girl . i wish you good luck with it my friend . glad people are still reviving the classic bikes . hard to beat the classics .
I have 2- 70ish schwinn's and an AMF. Think they have all original parts. Lights and all. I am ready to get started on them. Your videos are very nice. They will be a big help restoring them. I also have a Giant iguana 🦎 25 yrs old, needs some tlc.
@@KFLY67 seat is too low for rider in video. Bike fit. Wheels are important. Need all spokes in place, tight and true. New chain. Then ride like new. Beautiful repair to the frame. Nice clean bearings. Great bikes. Good ergonomics on the Schwinn Frames. Definitely better than Big Box store bikes these days. One good gear better than multiple lousy gears. Peace.
Nice find good old schwinn bike best in the world I have three schwinn beach cruiser and I will never sell . Just a quick note if you would have looked on flat side of the crank it would have told you the year of the bike good score
Nice build. It's interesting to see the difference between the work of a bike mechanic and a more metal worker oriented appoach. I think you should get a new chain nevertheless. The old one is for sure streched out way beyond dead and therefor will tear down the teeth of your cogs aggresively, something you definitely don't want to happen to your oldtimer.
What sort of monster truck force did it take to break the frame? Those oldies, especially the Schwinns are tough! Gotta confess, i would have parted it out, with its damaged frame and chainring. You didn't, and it came out super cool
This bike is almost perfect. It was very easy to assemble. ruclips.net/user/postUgkx2YFGCCEkXKgqCOH-7vlvgb4L4hg4IrXI The fit was great as well. I am 5'11" and 160 lbs with a longer torso and rather shorter legs, and 55cm is a perfect fit. Every component seems to be pretty decent and durable except the rear wheel. It was a bit lob-sided and also the freewheel component is either missing a ball bearing or under lubricated, which prevents the wheel from rotating freely. Because of that, it requires more pedaling and also climbing hills a lot harder than expected. Other than the back wheel, I like everything else about it. Affordable and well-built.** UPDATE **It turns out the sound was caused by the tight chain tension. Once I loosen it up by moving the backwheel a tad bit closer to the crankset, the sound went away.
En el 77 tenia 10 años y estos cuadros de bicicleta 20 los cortabamos de en medio y el tubo que sale de la masa hacia arriba Y los haciamos para brincar, nos quedaban bien bonitos!!!
My mom had a similar box, same moxy frame... I believe it was a Schwinn Deluxe... Is there such a bike as a Schwinn Deluxe? Don’t believe the chainguard protector said anything other than Schwinn Deluxe but it looked very similar to this or a Hornet without the gas tank thing and without the springer fork. I was against painting the wheels too, but I ended up liking the black enough where I'm thinking about doing that or something like that on my 59 Catalina Rougher condition, similar restoration, love my girl bike, ride it all the time.
I notice there are two slightly different size 26 in Wheels on that bike the front wheel when you were cleaning the rust off the Chrome I believe that front wheel was a balloon tire wheel but it has a 26 buy 1.75 middleweight white sidewall in the front I believe that front wheel was a Schwinn tubular S2 now for the rear wheel it is a Schwinn tubular S7 which is 8 tire size is known as 26 by 1 and 3/4 because whoever had the bike must have gotten rid of the original front Schwinn S7 wheel but other than that that's a very cool restoration with a little bit of patina.
@@dickieangenson2236 Short answer: it's probably fine. Long answer: The main problem is a "spaced-out" chain. Over time, the links stretch ever-so-slightly, which will make chain-slips more frequent, and will eventually wear down your sprockets, further increasing the chance of a slip. If the rusty chain just makes it a bit crunchy, a quick wash with some degreaser and a brillo pad followed by a chain-specific oil will get you in prime working order. WD-40 also does the trick in a pinch but is not ideal.
im not excited about restoring old bikes, because bike companies are making new bikes that look like almost exactly like the vintage bikes....and with better quality parts
The bike looks better than it did but why didn’t you sand it down and repaint it,, and those white wheels are bad looking. Paint them or take the paint off and leave them chromed. This is just my opinion.

This reminds me of my grandpa's bike that got stolen after he passed away. 😭😭
It was creme colored if memory serves me correctly
We could never afford to replace it but I'd ride it everyday guaranteed and think of my papaw.
Mint, Not restored just repaired and used again , With the oil it will protect it , Great job !
What a beautiful restoration. And to see your daughter involved, I love it. I remember that with my dad.

Wow nice restore, welding, polishing! Schwinn Spitfire ready to ride for another 70 years!
Nice video. I just bought a Schwinn Cruiser 5 the other night and I’m cleaning it up as I watch your video. Thanks for sharing.
Had a cinnamon in garage since early 80's. Restoring it now. Everything looks good but tires badly cracked.
Had a 1965 Schwinn Corvette. Looks similar. Wish I had hung on to it. Nice work.
Restored to the perfect level, keeping all it's previous triumphs and loses in its's DNA. Great work.
Great. Oily rag restoration. It looks fantastic.
Oddly satisfying! Thanks for posting.
A true skilled tradesman. Your welding excellence, sand blasting, yet you didn't repaint the whole bike preserving the patina, as they say.
Nicely done! Watching you put the seatpost, stem, and pedals in with no grease physically hurt me lol

Very nice reurrection and mechanical resto! ❤ a fine one for your stable!
Well shit, I guess I'll just have to add an anvil to my bike-repair kit.

Good to see people who appreciate the value of an old bicycle. After all, the first motorcycles were just bicycles with motors.
Amazing what you can achieve with patience and the right equipment.

It was not the correct seat bracket size and I used an old one that had the right end. This was a minimal expense build.

Thanks, what would have been considered scrap metal because of the broken rear frame.
that's the way I generally clean mine, but that's not a rat-rod. it's just a survivor. rat-rods are customised with random parts
Looks like a TV show. Restore the bike in 20 minutes or less.
It's easy when most all you have to do is take it apart and clean it up.
Wow really cool i worry with these old bikes about rust inside frame is there anything that can be done?
great job ,looks fantastic a repaint would have totaly ruined it !!!!!!!
I got a 56 spitfire 20 inch. Bought it off ebay sometime last year. Hopeing to find a 24 or 26 inch to make a 4 stroke moped
After cleaning the parts how come you put the parts back on a dirty frame
