I highly suggest that anyone interested in this film attempt to find the directors cut. It is rare and hard to find. It is also 5 hours long, but the film really doesn't work without those extra hours. This is a long epic and it's worth it. Wim Wenders has called the directors cut his proudest work.
couldn't agree more. it's actually 3 parts of 90 minutes :)
Bruno Spotorno Domingues The version I saw was two parts so I guess it depends on where you get it from (I saw it at The New York Museum of Modern Art.)
FailedComedian I remember seeing this in a small cinema in Adelaide when it was new, can't remember how long that version went for, definately not five hours! Would love to see it again. I remember the film blew my little mind, and the sound track blew the rest of me away, Peter Gabriel's Blood of Eden for the closing credits on the cinema sound system, wow, spellbound. How do we go about finding this movie to view? Any tips?

This is it, but it looks like it won't work certain dvd players
this movie was light years ahead of its time, at the time critics called it the worst movie of 91, in 2013 its still ahead of its time. brilliant movie
The soundtrack is awesome. Every song grows on you.
I am thankful that there now exists a definitive version for grabs on the Criterion Collection! Just ordered this online along with David Byrne’s ‘True Stories’! Can’t wait to see those 2 films myself very soon!
Me too - it predicted the phenomenon of our fascination with hand-held devices and had a GREAT soundtrack!
best movie best soundtrack - i remember seeing that trailer in a movie theater i was so excited about it love wenders
i saw this back in 91 and loved the look into the future world that we now live in
this film was a revelation the first time i saw it!
Possibly the greatest film of the past 20 years.
is the best movie EVER :)
Truly was! One of my favfilms. Gonna se more Wenders.
Has to be one of if not the best film of last 20 years.
wenders predicted lots of things in this movie, like cars with gps, for example. and you are right, I have the original soundtrack here and is just amazing!
yes, and video phones :)
Great work with this trailer. So incredible
it came on television once a long time ago. so obscure but so epic
I've been trying to find this trailer for ages, good upload dude!
Grande grande filme e com uma banda sonora bestial
@altoburgo Thank you
Can't wait to check it out thanks criterion!
@fran86beta yes, wenders has a gift, the gift of vision, and so many people can't even see (and I'm not just talking about blind people). nice of him sharing his vision, right?
thank you!
If you were able to make people in yr home country, see what you have seen in far away places and learn from the culture and people from there, share yr knowledge with others...
That´s the big metaphor in this movie, how to make blind people see, a lot of people in this world, has lived in the abscene of light for so many years, that they aren´t prepared to see the light of wisdom or knowledge, no matter how hard you try make'em to see...
I don't think they showed this movie in brazil in 1991, but I've watched 3 years ago and is just the best!
@bachotime yes I now, is really hard to find this DVD in stores, but they have in amazon!!
Oh, my God! I bought this film by "accident". Judging from the trailer, I just might have another fav-film among. Blade Runner.
@Pauluk33 you can buy in Amazon. But the movie is out there in the web, you just have to search!
You really need to post the full movie now! It's nearly gone in North America
@indiefan92 you're welcome!
@technologic21 can't agree more!
@technologic21 agreed!
Well I can't do that because is not legal, but you can find them* for download :)
* both versions
I only saw this film once years ago when it came out. Wasn't it a 1991 release? I've always wanted to see it again!!
@goldenj27 no, I'm from Rio Grande.
@indiefan92 "move with me" from neneh cherry ;)
@indiefan92
Nena Cherry- "Move With Me"
@fran86beta *the light of wisdom from another culture
Keep writing to Criterion and get them to release it.
They just did. You predicted the future!
@RobinsTaste well, it was a "good" accident then :)
What's the first song playing in the trailer?
12 years late but it’s “Move with me” by Neneh Cherry
you are from pelotas!
That song is horrendous.
