    The game also glues you into a duel with a single target. Fighting multiple enemies at the same time feels horrible.

      Those one-on-one fights did feel a lot better than fighting larger groups of smaller enemies, huh

    Souls like games ruined people
    It has become a point of bragging how "good" you are, so much so that any critiques on gameplay and mechanics are just met with "skill issue" and "git gud"....no matter how justified the critiques are or how bad the mechanics are

    Comparing running game to action rpg game is very strange way to approach… Ofc mirror’s edge will feel much better and unique.

      well, one of those games was developed with movement in mind. Wouldn't we want soulslikes inspired by character action games to feel good to play too?

      I still think it's worth checking out the demo if you have the time! You might have a different response to the mechanics - and some of the action really sings when it does come together

    While I think this video is a bit dragged out and unfocused? I COMPLETELY agree. I literally bought a PS5 for this game and I want to like it and to its credit, it is the most I have ever enjoyed a Souls-like (I hate Souls-likes and I've played quite a few). But right at the start I was like "the dodge is too short". Like it doesn't even fit the animation! I can't dodge ANYTHING with a dodge that short! This is made worse by the fact that the game keeps throwing these unblockable and undodgeable attacks at you at the beginning. It's parry or lose...until you unlock Flash Dodge and I'm thinking "If you're gonna throw attacks that NEED to be flash dodged at me, why not let me have a flash dodge at the beginning!" This is actually a common problem I see in the beat 'em up genre, actually. People go "Oh we need to throw a level up system in there" but instead of levelling up to gain new moves, you're levelling up to gain BASIC moves! Like I've seen beat 'em ups that lock "dash attack" behind a skill tree and Stellar Blade feels a little like that. I grinded to unlock the double dodge in the demo and yeah, that should have been there by default.
    Still buying it. The audio/visual splendor is worth it. Gosh darnit do I love that soundtrack! Chalk "the music is too quiet" up to being this game's other big flaw! But yes I feel like the game is a bit misguided in some of its combat design.

    • @jhp9803
      @jhp9803 5 месяцев назад +3

      actually, you can avoid enemy attack by basic dodge.

    • @Dualshockers
      @Dualshockers  5 месяцев назад

      Totally echo you on the music front; it's so great. Glad you agree with how the game treats it's skill tree, though! I think once Eve gets more abilities and move sets as we play more of the game, it'll solve a good chunk of the issues I felt with combat

  • @TheNotoriousMUSK
    @TheNotoriousMUSK 5 месяцев назад +5

    I've played throught it twice and beat the boss a few times and I think the combat felt little slow and kind of stiff but I absolutely started to love it and how its meant to be very methodical with precise button presses instead of mashing. That being said I do think the combat combat could benefit from a 10-15% speed increase in overall movement and especially combat speed for Eve and the enemies to make things feels more snappy and urgent. I did see mods that increase Eves attack speed but enemies feel sort of stiff and a little too telegraphy. I freakin loved it though and pre-ordered it after my first demo playthrough and I'm gonna play the sh*t out of it multiple times on release and platinum it

    • @Dualshockers
      @Dualshockers  5 месяцев назад

      heck yeah, dude - glad you enjoyed it as much as you did! I think i'll also be checking out too and see how Eve's upgrades change the game's overall feel for me later in the game. Thanks for your thoughts, man!

  • @zerocean

    I had the same issue you described initially but then I studied the combat a little more and get use to it. This game reminds me of Onimusha 1-3 games where movement may seems stiff but once you get use to it, it's smooth. I agree that some of the skill should be available by default and the RPG mechanic can get in the way of gameplay but it won't take long to unlock those skills. Beating the boss challenge around 30 times and the feeling of stiffness is gone. Just need to get use to how different it play.

    • @yokaigypsy

      What do you mean the RPG mechanic gets in the way of combat? Clarify.

    • @Dualshockers
      @Dualshockers  5 месяцев назад

      I see what you mean with the Onimusha comparison. But yeah, those skill tree upgrades will really help remedy a lot of my problems with Eve's mobility. I still found it a bit stiff when the combat was shining (in the boss challenge) but it's nothing a few hours of getting used to the game can't help me mostly resolve. Cheers, man

    Putting politics aside the game is actually trash, extremely short, terrible writing with even worse voice acting, and the story isn’t memorable at all. Honestly it just seems like Sony scammed people into paying $70-$80 for a game that worth $30. By inflating political controversy they got people to pre order and over pay for something entirely based on politics instead of the actual game

    I absolutely disagree about being stiff. But the platforming animations when she balances on rails or swings from poles to jump through, they seem very clunky and unnatural to me. Also lack of idle animations. But battle is very rewarding if you stop sucking at it

    • @Dualshockers
      @Dualshockers  5 месяцев назад +1

      fair point. i think i can get over platforming being stiff if the combat flow comes together through more of those skill tree upgrades

  • @shuunobotenzo1992

    First off... SB is not a souls game it may take elements from but over all it still a character action game.
    Second just because the game want u to have good timing and to known when to commit doesn't makes it clucky. I think what the game wants u to do is earn that speed and flashy attacks by actually having the timing down
    It does take some time to get used to but SB has it own identity and it will only grow from there wirh the more skills we'll unlock

    • @Dualshockers
      @Dualshockers  5 месяцев назад +2

      methodical combat, challenging enemies, flask and bonfire-esque systems, that parry system? It's obviously inspired by character action games - which i mentioned in the video - but we can't deny it's mechanically operating as a soulslike. but, yes, engaging with the base gameplay to unlock beta attacks as a good gameplay loop, sure

    Why does movement have to be the prime development concern? I didn't have any problems with that aspect when I played the demo, but for the sake of argument lets just aay youre right and its stiff. So ia every Rockstar game. Trying to move around a small house in RDR2 feels like that hallway scene from Austin Powers. Same could be said about the movement in many Naughty Dog games outside of combat and setpieces, most turn based rpgs, intentionally awkward games such as getting over it and surgeon simulator, most old school point and click games....and you know that feeling burning inside of you to yell those are different genres with different focuses? Yeah. Anyone can pick a game and find what they feel is a flaw and then cherry pick games in completely different genres that do those things better. It helps if they take the time to explain why that particular mechanic is so important to the game in question. Id argue it isnt. Parry/dodge timing, combos, equipment loadouts, the general spectacle of everything. Id say those are all more important. Hell, even greats of the genre like Bayo, Nier and DMC can feel stiff at times when youre not in the flow of combat.

    You lose the plot, and never see the point. You have a right to see the game as you do, but missed the point. Was it fun? yes, was I bored? No. Did the game make me play more? The answer is yes. Most people learn In demos. You act like you deserve the skills. Earn them and maybe you can bring out Eve’s beauty. Grow a little. You don’t deserve anything build up your skills and then you deserve her best.

    I absolutely hate eaying this but if you feel its sluggish well u need to get good no irony intended.
    Once you learn to parry, dodge and acquire some important speed u can move crazy fast and control the whole engagement

    • @Dualshockers
      @Dualshockers  5 месяцев назад +1

      then why did you say it :( but fr I think if we can beat bosses like Malenia and Ishin then we can comment on how a soulslike feels mechanically. Even Lies of P felt better to control early on

    • @eternalchamp3882
      @eternalchamp3882 5 месяцев назад

      @@Dualshockers an early game eve is far less sluggish than an end game character in Elden Ring, what are you even talking about.
      Furthermore, Stellar Blade IS NOT a soulslike. It has soulslike elements but just because it has bonfires and enemies respawn at said bonfire doesn't make a game soulslike. Other than the bonfire and enemy respawn at bonfire (which is still just the bonfire) the game has 0 in common with soullike games and if you gonna argue is souslike cuz bosses are hard than you probably never heard of games like ninja gaiden.
      parries are similar to sekiro but the parry system in sekiro was what separated sekiro FROM SOULSLIKE not what made it a soulslike
      there's no leveling up
      u dont have currency which you lose upon death
      you double double dodge, perfect dodges, and double jumpings akin to bayonetta or dmc
      art style clearly has nothing in common with any souls like game and is more akin to nier automata
      Also as someone who also beat every dark souls game and elden ring (although i haven't played lies of p cuz i dont give a fk about pinochio) i dont know what you are cooking claiming dark souls game feel better to control like without a joke i have no idea how you can even claim that.
