I just picked up a 1971 FJ40 and flat towed it back to the bay area, came across your channel while doing some research and plan to document the restomod of it. Great job...
This 40 is looking dope! Super clean and soon to be capable! Looking forward to learning how to do a garage paint job from your future videos so in five yrs when I’m done rust repairing mine I will be ready to put makeup on the pig!
Very enjoyable to see. I paid a Craigslist welder 6 years back to do the patch panels to mine since I can’t weld. Tv shows make it look so quick and easy. Thanks to you and your wife for making the videos.
I forget who but wherever you sourced that part looks like an awesome vendor, I def need to give them a buzz. I def have the Swiss cheese variety of flooring.
Grab a Blair Spot Weld cutter kit. Or larger drill bits to get more of the spot weld. Then use a stiff putty knife. Works great to move thru the panel seams once you cut the welds.
@@projectwrongway9127 fantastic. I haven’t started to weld on mine yet. I’ve never seen so much rust on something that isn’t at the bottom of the ocean.
BTW too little and too late, but an Air chisel at HF is cheaper than the scoop of whey protein powder u needed to recover from that insane hammer workout.
I know man, we do get lucky out here 😆 When I was shopping for this cruiser I knew I wanted one with as little rust as possible, so this was good practice for me. And nothing major to screw up.

Great job...
Saw you on Instagram, good luck with the build man. It’s a good time working on these.
@@projectwrongway9127 Thankfully not my first restoration or build out but there will always be mistakes to be made
Also if you ever need any help turning wrenches etc I think I'm just a few hours away
You guys are having fun! Glad to see someone else get there wife involved too. Subscribed.
She’s the brains bro, I’m just the muscle...
@@projectwrongway9127 LOL!

One step at a time bro.

Thanks for watching as always. I would have paid some one too but I had to start using this welder at some point. When in Rome.
I just love how they grinded that piece of the floor pan. And just shoot sparks all over the gas cans right next to them 🤣🤣 keep up the good work.
Yeah, as I looked up at all those sparks flying I was thinking, “I hope those cans are mostly empty”. Luckily, they were... mostly empty.
Nice work!
Thanks Rich!

ClassicCruisers, ask for Brandon.
Good to see you using your competence stunt double in this episode. He looked a lot like you.
Also loved the grinding in the fuel storage area.
Lol, like looking in a mirror.
Going to be sweet! Nice having a pro guiding you along the way!
Yeah, the cruiser community is never lacking when it comes to helping out others.
I approve this message
Mrs. Wrong way really in there to get the shots too. Niyeese!
She can weld, might need to get her started doing some.

Wow. That spot weld drill bit is a great idea, talk about time saver!
Same repair I need to do as I still have a 2X4 holding my seat up. :) Looks good!
Going to finish up the remaining bits, then on to the next thing...
That looked like a very satisfying piece of work… job well done!
It’s nice having good metal under your seat.
@@projectwrongway9127 Yeah, otherwise you’ll end up with a Fred Flintstone style Cruiser!
I have to say that i'm impressed that you learn how to weld in a day, congrats you did a great job!
I had help for sure, but I did some welding in high school... and a bit at some jobs I worked. But I need a lot more practice.
Nice job guys!
Thanks man, Ryan’s a great teacher.
Did I miss the episode when you fit the new front bar???
Negative, I placed it on for a minute but didn’t film it. I plan on doing an episode on it though.
Awesome Episode! As a thankyou gift for teaching you how to weld you could get Ryan a Trimmer for his beard. ;)
The beard protects his beautiful face from welding slag!
Repair looks great. Does that make the 40 rust free now? I’m jealous.
At this point, yes. There still a patina, since it is original paint. So some light surface rust... but it’s solid now.

One piece at a time then yeah? Chip away it .
@@projectwrongway9127 Yep, that’s the plan. It’s hard not to get impatient though.
I have one fj 40 year 1977...and 5.000.000 kilometres...in Venezuela...
Hey legend, I know it’s got nothing to do with this video but what model sniper did you buy to bolt onto this beast?
Stand by, I’ll look it up...
It’s the Sniper 2300, bought the kit from Mosley Motors.
no need to get the grinder out, my friends 71' FJ40
is so bad the floorboard is barley hanging on lol
It’s looking better now.
What welder did you buy or was it Ryan’s?
Millermatic 215
Jeez Rachel let you buy a Miller? 😳
Bought it used on eBay! I was just glad it worked. Never turned the thing on until
Saturday
Mastication?
That’s accurate too.
Thirst 😘
Dauym right!

hahahaha sound advice pimp!
What west coast ppl consider rust repair 🙄

That was just painful. Couldn't watch it all and won't bother watching any other vids
Good call
