    I'm 75- Started using the sauna about 4-5 months ago after hearing Dr Ronda Patrick's "10 benefits of a sauna".. Best decision ever for many reasons. I have pretty good heat tolerance and started out at 25 mins (abt 170 degrees) and now stay in for 30 minutes 5 days a week. To your point about endurance--My cardio includes the "ropes". When I first started I could do, maybe 50-75 reps before my heart rate was -- Whoop reading of 160-165 bpm and recovery (catch my breath) was maybe 3-5 minutes. This morning I did 1 set of 225 and 2 sets of 125 with a max of 137 bpm (I'm not sure what the best-sustained heart rate is for my age but should probably push it a bit). Also my heart rate recovers to about 105 in less than a minute. I am interested in losing more weight and am interested in what you said about growth hormones. I wonder if growth hormones are as available at my age.. Our LA Fitness membership is free (benefit to being old).

      Infrared saunas are not legitimate saunas, any Finn will tell you that. Not sure the huge push for them here in the USA, it’s just lights that heat you up to a warm temp. We are talking 130F infrared sauna vs 210F plus 30-50% humidity in a traditional dry/wet finish sauna. I read that infrared saunas were first created by NASA so astronauts could experience elevated cardiovascular heart rates similar to a workout while being in antigravity. When you are talking about the legitimate health benefits and release of endorphins and HSPs that only comes from the intense heat of a dry/wet sauna and not those fake cookie cutter infrared toy boxes.

    If you dont have access to a sauna, you can run a bath as hot as your body can handle and rest in that. It is a humid heat as opposed to dry heat sauna, but still has many of the benefits.

    Hi, tanks a lot. The one thing that is always lost about sauna - its social. Instead of a double feature movie - spend the time, relax, talk to people, read a book.... Its not like going for dinner with you friends - in the sauna everybody is relaxed after being in the heat - maybe just wainting for the next session of heat. You really have time to talk to people - and afterwards you are calm, happy amd probably tired. When you use a sauna 4 times a night - does that count as the "4" or as going once? Have a great day, Best wishes from the south of Germany

    Thanks thomas! I go to the sauna in my neighbourhood twice a week! It has everything; steam sauna, hot sauna, mild sauna, cold bath etc. My approach is a contrast bathing approach. There are sandtimers(english term?) Which last around 20 minutes I think. Today was my first time staying in the hottest sauna for a whole round, whoohoo!

    Very nice!! How do you think saunas compare to clothing that mimic the effect? I also do Wim Hof Breathing so I’ve been more inclined in embracing the cold especially with cold showers. Is it possible to do both? If so would you try sauna first shower second or vice versa?

    • @davidcardinal3654
      @davidcardinal3654 2 года назад

      I’d think cold before would be much better. Seeing as how the benefit of sauna is in heating the core body temperature, whereas a cold shower afterward may diminish that effect.

    The EPO thing, as far as I know, is only a suggested explanation at the moment and no studies have found it to be conclusive. Plasma volume goes up first, then red blood cells increase after about 3 weeks (not always) as some sort of compensatory effect, but it is not known how/why.

    I built a traditional finnish sauna in my home and get in it almost daily. I heat up till I can't stand it anymore, then cool down repeating this three times before calling it quits for that session. One thing I noticed after a few weeks was that the hair on my legs started growing thicker.

      U know why thats so funny? I'm a natural haired black woman.......we do a thing that's called "greenhouse method" where you put a bag over your head with natural oils and keep it on overnight or all day if you want.........IT GROWS OUR HAIR VERY FAST from the heat thats trapped in from our body....this makes total sense.....its like your greenhousing your legs lol

      @@rebel8440 Wow, that's amazing. I've had the sauna for awhile but never noticed the thicker hair until recently when I started putting much more water on those hot rocks to create more steam. I used to get into it dry but took forever to start sweating. So I started throwing water on the rocks right away and much more so this must be EXACTLY what's happening with the "greenhouse method"!
      My wife says the hair on my head is even looking healthier lately so the hot steam has everything to do with this apparently.
