After all these recent San Francisco area videos, I have moved this destination to the TOP of my bucket list. Thanks for all the hard work putting these videos together Jim. A job well done!
You have done a number of great "on the road" videos, but this one I think out does them all. The music, the photos, the drive...... totally awesome ..... and I've never been to San Francisco. Thank you!!!
Marin County and (most) of San Mateo County is definitely not your typical suburban landscape, that's for sure. I love how there's lively and leafy downtown areas on the Peninsula, every 1/2 to 1 mile, starting from Millbrae, and running all the way down to Mountain View. Then, just a few miles to the west, you have unspoiled wilderness, running the entire length of the Santa Cruz mountains.
Finest kind! What a ride and I have always loved the Golden Gate Bridge... always! Great ride and a great soundtrack from a kick-ass band! Always liked Jefferson Airplane/Starship... keep it up! Really enjoying your vids of California! Safe travels! BTW- the pictures of the bridge- awesome!
I've always loved driving the entire stretch of US 101, from the Golden Gate Bridge, up to Novato. It's such a fun freeway...lots of curves, elevation changes, the Waldo Tunnel, and of course, the icing on the cake...the Golden Gate Bridge. It's definitely not your typical urban freeway, that's for sure!
This video is the best so far in your Going West series Jim! I like all the videos so far but this is the best ! Love the pics of the the Golden Gate Bridge ! Keep it up Jim, I know you have much more in store for us!
This makes me want to go to California. I think this is your best video, the GG bridge is so monumental, spectacular, and beautiful. The approach compliments it as well. Thank you for sharing, I just love this video, great soundtrack to it as well.
I don't know how you're able to sync up the music with the mood of the drive so well all the time but you did a really excellent job with this one. Makes me want to go back to San Francisco.
By the way, great photos around the 5 minute mark. You might be surprised to know that, despite spending most of my life in the Bay Area, that I've never been to that vantage point before.
OK, I have to say this is my favorite so far. GREAT track and photos, I really felt like I was out there. And those cutout U.S. shields are so damn cool!
Thank you! it was a little overcast that morning but cleared up in time for this video, and the rest of the day was just as nice as you'll see in the next two videos.
Great video! What was your impression of San Francisco as a city? I was raised in California, but way down in San Diego. I always like how SF was so eastern-looking in comparison to other California cities, but very California in its own way
Huh, imagine that. Watching your video of the Golden Gate Bridge, excellent work BTW, and seeing an Arizona plate in the final frame. Its what I do when I travel, look for my homestate's plate. :)
4:53 that was the curvy road that in that one Clint Eastwood movie, that policeman who rode the motorcycle pulled over that guy in that custom cadiliac .....
I think getting off on CA-1 is much more interesting than dealing with the city streets of 101. At least you had sun, or as they say in Alaska "cloud failure"! ;)
Another Great video. Did you know they named the tunnel at the end of your video after Robin Williams? That is the same tunnel featured in Dirty Harry.
Whenever I fly into SFO or OAK/SJC, I always try to get at least one round trip in over the GGB. South is the best way across the bridge. Preferably with the top down!
As far as bay area bridges go, GGB will always be the the shiznit, the west span of the SFOBB is memorable, but the new SFOBB east span looks like it could also be iconic. GGB's towers top off at 746 feet above the water, and as a St. Louisan, I always do the inevitable comparison to 630 feet. That's a big bridge.
Hello Freewayjim! I just got a new Toshiba Touchscreen Laptop. Now I can comment and type to you. It's like a tablet and a laptop together. I can still comment you just like I'm doing now. I like this video and every thing! Thanks Freewayjim!
Is US 101 really longer than I-5, even with US 101 being truncated south of LA in 1964? Hard to believe, if true! I guess all the curves on US 101 as it goes between Oregon's border and LA, are why it's longer. Just another one I'm rewatching, and still a great vid.
Nice video. I've been on this route many times. The approach to the GGB never gets old. Beautiful photos. Last time I crossed the bridge actual humans collected the tolls. How long has the toll collection been electronic? Also, curious...why the repetitive pauses?
Thank you, from what I understand the electronic tolls were implemented in the Spring of 2013, not long before I went through there. Not sure what you mean by repetitive pauses?
Oops I never paid a toll when I drove up there a few months back. I was in a rental vehicle though. I never thought to pay it on the website before hand though.
Back in Australia now after living in San Jose for a while. Your video brings back a lot of memories, thank you so much!
Wonderful as always!
Wow, incredible photographs
Thank you!

your musical accompaniments are so spot on...thumbs up. I love my State.
Thank you very much, I love visiting your state.

Another great ride. A beautiful area of the US, let alone the world.

Thanks, I LOVE that cutout US-101 shield! They look so awesome on the ratty old BGS's in Los Angeles.
Wonderful teaming of song with video -
Thank you very much!
Beautiful video! And your choice of song just adds to the beauty of it! Great job, Jim!

Thank you! the mid-late 70's era with Balin singing lead is my favorite period of their music.
Awesome video Jim. Loved the still photos. Really wanting to visit the Bay area now.
Absolutely fantastic! Hope I get to see it, as well, someday.

Random Freewayjim vault revisit. Still looks great!
Thank you!
I noticed on one of your still shots of the GGB that you could see the new Bay Bridge eastern span easily.
I don't know how you're able to sync up the music with the mood of the drive so well all the time but you did a really excellent job with this one. Makes me want to go back to San Francisco.
Thank you very much, it's just a feel I suppose, but I was pretty happy with how this one turned out.
Great video of an iconic bridge. Thanks for the ride and keep up the good work, Jim!
Jim, his is definitely one of my favorites. Brilliant choice of music. Had no idea the Bridge was built so long ago!
+jacqueline Gallivan Thank you, we built some great things as a country back during the depression.
By the way, great photos around the 5 minute mark. You might be surprised to know that, despite spending most of my life in the Bay Area, that I've never been to that vantage point before.
Another outstanding video by Freewayjim!
Wow, incredible pictures! Great video btw.

Thanks Justin and congratulations on your new equipment.

Thanks, it was well worth the toll and I hope you get to go to SF, it exceeded my expectations.
Nice to see my local freeway in one of your vids! Thanks!
A great day for filming! I love it when the cloud cover is like this.
Awesome job!
Thanks I liked SF a lot, it is a unique and very beautiful city but I like Southern California just as much for different reasons.
Thanks, I wish I could have gone up there later in the afternoon with better lighting conditions but the view is incredible!
FJ, all time!
It's my place, video makes me appreciate it in new ways.
So glad you made it out here
Thank you very much, I appreciate that and hope you eventually get to visit out there. (I still have 4 more Bay Area videos to come).

Nice nice nice ride - great soundtrack choice.
Words can't describe how INCREDIBLE those photos are! Like they should be in magazines!
Thank you! Not sure if they are the best, just grabbed a few.

+BoratWanksta Thanks, wikipedia is ready when you are :) US-101 is about 12 miles longer than I-5.
I can believe that, it's just still a little weird to think that! Probably would've eventually consulted Wikipedia, if you hadn't had responded. :)
+BoratWanksta I try :) It is all those twists and turns that make the difference.
Thanks!
How did you make those signs at 1:24? Its rather obvious that you didn't photograph those.
Something similar to this. How I (used to) Make My Road Signage
Thanks, and I hope you do too!

Sad but true!
Wow!
Good eye!
Your videos are the gold standard. Or should I say, the international orange standard?
Jim for president!
Down CA-1 to US-101 to Los Angeles.
LOL, thank you!
In this video we found out where Waldo is
Super
+Beata Kowalski Thank you!
😂
And it hardly looks like you're in a suburban area.
LOL!
Under the Golden Gate Br. is where the crooked cop shot and killed the pimp in Magnum Force[2nd Dirty Harry] (1973).
Thank you very much!
Thank you!
Thanks!
