The top DJs like Sasha were like mystical Gods back then. No internet, no one knew what they looked like, just heard them. They were huge, people these days don't understand.

@@chriso8485 take a look at what the ratings are for Dj’s. They’re all festival dj’s . Pretty much every one of them. Kind of disheartening. Not sure I’ve ever even heard of the ✌🏻#1 Dj✌🏻 and I’ve been fairly current in the night club since the early to mid 90’s. Just peculiar that’s all. I watched the next interview with Sasha that was done in the last few years. While he thinks the festival scene has brought new life to the electronic music scene it doesn’t sound as if he’s 1000% onboard with where it’s heading.

God there’s so many people in the comments dissing Sasha. Sure his mixing was a bit dodgy at times during the early 90s (I personally still love his early sets), and yeah he did play a lot of progressive trance during the mid to late 90s (and I get that not all people are into progressive), but his mixing has evolved so much over time. His mixing is incredible in the late 90s compared to his mixing in his very early days, even when playing live. The way he mixes and layers tracks so atmospherically and smoothly is a rare talent that cannot be compared to other DJs. He has that special signature “The Man Like” sound that captures you in a hypnotic mindspace during his long sets, and it often takes you on an emotional journey when you really absorb the sound of his mixes. There have been so many times where I can’t tell if he’s playing one song or layering more tracks, that’s how smooth he is at mixing, and this talent grew in him within 3-5 years. And even in the early 90s he was really good with layering tracks and choosing tracks based on how well they fit together. I have so much respect for Sasha and always will, he’s always looking forward to evolving his sound to what he desires and does it in a consistent way that makes him Sasha. I absolutely idolize him as a DJ, Sasha and Digweed are my biggest inspirations in my life and DJ career.

But: Since having family, & "OTHER" work commitments, change of lifestyle & a change of scenery; One "shifted" one's remastering focus (from public responsibilities) ie: actual work to live - LIVE sessions - to simply "play" with all this lovely internet available MUSICAL food (such as what I found on your website with five short audio clip players). Woo-whee. FIVE.
All on (together) via LONG PLAY remastering - continuously "playing with" your live audio players as if they were MY DJ equipment.

  • @WSTLNZ

Why not "PLAY" this my way - for myself - and for my OWN enjoyment.? As after all -- I should have been officially retired (if I was still in the "retiring" age bracket of retiree's of 40 yrs ago) ie: Men used to retire at 55 back then.!
And .. lets face it.. whilst the COMPANY is doing real fine.. without me there.. i may as well enjoy doing what I love doing "best" .. "playing" with the music.. & not just "playing it".
Otherwise.. what point would there be - in (ever) playing 1's music.

This video is so cringe, it must kill him to watch it.
Anyway... the best technical DJ on Earth even when you factor out the impossible to replicate and heavily edited stuff like the Northern Exposures and the Renaissance collection, but if anything, Scott's website shows how much utter shite Sasha's played over the years. I've always thought of Sasha as the world's best warm up DJ. I just don't think what he plays is banging enough for the end of the night.
Technique-wise there are few DJs competent or confident enough to drop a track straight into another without adjusting first in headphones and then gradually fading it in.
It's how Sasha/Digweed/Seaman/Howells/Richards/Burridge/DJ Dan make truly seamless mixes and it's why they regardless of whether you're into what they're playing are head and shoulders above the rest. It's a skill in itself and few can or are brave enough to do it since you risk a plane crash or at very least have to drag a correction if you miss-cue even by a fraction of a second. It's why Sasha calls Digweed "human Abelton."
