I think the reason why sasha stood out was because he had that unique balance of talent, mixed with humbleness and massive likeability in presence and looks, also mixed with being in the right place at the right time and lastly the name sasha which is (was) a cool dj name. But like anything ,no matter how much hype there was if he didn't deliver the goods, he would have been forgot about .but still today he makes the best music albums there is in electronic music.his involver albums are perfection.great ambassader of music.
I’m not usually jealous of people but that, THAT I’m jealous of. I’ve been clubbing in a lot of cool places (even lived in a few of them) but never made it over to Ibiza.
The most timeless mix album of the entire Global Underground brand. Almost two decades on, and still up to date sound wise! I wish the whole scene could, do a U-Turn, and go back to these days. They were very special.
Wow awesome find. This was the first DJ mix I ever bought. I miss the days of GU and really cool, thought out DJ mixes. I know we have Soundcloud, RUclips, etc.. for thousands of live DJ sets from around the world now but GU, Balance, Fabric mixes always put a bit more creativity and thought into their mixes. Hard to find that now.
The Golden Age of Prog House and Trance 1996-2001. Whoop. Platipus. Red Parrot. Perfecto Fluoro. Limbo. Fluid. Barracuda. Flammable. Choo Choo. Hook..Like Tears In Rain. Magic.
It’s mad that in Sasha you’ve got the greatest Dj of all time who’s also one of the greatest mixers ever. And now you’ve got djs who pre mix their sets before performing ‘live’, put it on a USB, press play at the venue, twiddle some nobs to give the impression of mixing live
Shelleys residency at Stoke is what first put his name on a pedestal. He was a hero for all the Shelley's crowd playing big piano house and the lighter end of rave. After that the Renaissance residency cemented his status when he started pushing all the early UK progressive sound.
@hattchitharry actually 71chunky is only partly correct, the song is: aquilla - Dreamstate (LSG remix). Sasha used a vocal sample from the song mercury and solace (dub) by BT.
It was the way he put his records together for me acapellas just went hand in hand. I got a tape from my mate in early 91 it was from Eclipse Coventry December 1990 l could stop listening to it. I was hooked
why is there no video footage of sashsa @ twilo, space etc gutted..............before the days of i-phones, but fuck that shit take me back toy the 90's any day
yeah I cant believe theres nothing from Twilo. The germans were way ahead, theres footage of Sven Vaeth in the early 90s at Omen. I havent even found any record DJ mixes from Twilo
2024 Me still on the floor Sasha @ade Amsterdam 2023 2024 Lnoe boatparties. The music and quality just keeps getting better, collaborations. Sasha❤from Amsterdam
I liked it when Sasha used to sledgehammer his sets, as long as it was flowing it worked, in 1998 at the Sugarshack in middlesbrough I remember he played the Matt Darey mix of Wizards of the Sonic by Westbam and the place went absolutely crazy, maybe he's become too uniformed over the years and not willing to play records he unfortunately held back on!
PHat in a hat global underground edited and released at least a couple of dvds in which they interviewed and documented all the djs who took part in their series to that date, you could see Sasha, Darren Emerson, nick warren etc... The first dvd was released around the time when Darren Emerson recorded the Global Underground in Urugauay ( this interview was included in that dvd)
The name definitely helped at a time when no one had information at their finger tips… great track selection. But he’s stuck because of incessant hard work remixing and production. Brandon Block for example lol… oh dear
Even tho i find this compilation a tad over rated. Its always a cd ill compare to being the pinnacle of progressive. But the way mercury and solace melts into dreamstate sends me into stratosphere . Nothing will beat that ever !!
Is there a global underground ? = on other planet (s) ... now ... although there are still things to do on planet earth (here here) ... but more on 'other' planets !!! ... In god we trust ... safe & cool ... let the scene always live !

RIP Dom Phillips
2022 now and the man is still at the top of his game..LEGEND OF THE GAME
I was lucky enough to catch Sasha at Space in the summer of 1999 during my first visit to Ibiza. Amazing memories.
Did you just see an advert in the street? I know Mambo just had a sign up Sasha - Space tonight
That would have been sick❤ The music was so good then. I went to Ibiza in 2013 and really didn’t enjoy the music much at 30 yrs old
I’m not usually jealous of people but that, THAT I’m jealous of. I’ve been clubbing in a lot of cool places (even lived in a few of them) but never made it over to Ibiza.
@@prog_deep_tranceDamn, you were over it by 30? That’s so sad to me.
Amazing times and memories of that late 90s period.
Rip Dom 😞
I don’t think that anything has been confirmed yet.

Nice interview by Dom. Rip
Nice vid - why was it filmed and how was it previously released? I'm amazed to have never stumbled across it before.
