A girl I used to date in the late 90s, in San Francisco, introduced me to this CD set. She would always play it in her Honda Accord when we went to parties and raves. Fast forward many years later, she’s now my wife and we have a teenage kid and we still love this music. Brings back good memories.

I'll never forget when I got this double set CD. It was 1999 and I was in the Navy, stuck at port in my submarine. My girlfriend at the time had bought this CD as well as Paul Van Dyk's 3-disc set of Vorsprung Dyk Tecknik and brought them on board for me. I remember putting this CD in and getting completely lost for the next 2 1/2 hours. Probably his best album, besides his essential 1995 mix (IMO), and to this day it can stand against any album put out by todays "DJs"!

    •  5 лет назад

Global Underground - 026 Romania James Lavelle CD1, for a lesser known DJ/mix, I just fukin love this mix and it’s just such a classic that always sounds fresh and never disappoints. Besides the biggest DJs GU mixes, for me Deep Dish ranks way up there too.

It was wipeout 3 that got me into this music when I played it late on the ps1 in 2000. Went to the hmv record shop in London and asked the guy behind the counter what music could he recommend that sounds like this and he gave me this cd. Still have it in my house somewhere. Special era, especially with him behind the decks. Smooth unmissable style of his own. His sequencing and transitions are so signature him. The emotion he can evoke of a listener/experiencer is incredibly powerful. Most of what you hear of him is quite true. Other Djs puzzled how he can sequence and mix the very same tacks others mix, but in his own way. Nothing short of a teacher in this genre of music.

Track (8)Bluestream was our first release and made in a tiny make shift studio in a flat (21a Station road in Urmston, Manchester). I had moved to manchester from Liverpool after meeting Stefan Pierlejewski (APL A Positive Life) who was/and still is a great producer/mix engineer. We worked together to create a release. It was all mixed down on a Yamaha 03d mixer and we had some Lexicon reverbs and an ensoniq DP/4 used on the main choppy synth bit. When it was first pressed no-one wanted it, absolutely no-one, not even the distributors as they said they could not categorize it and we literally had 1000 records stacked on the stairs of the flat/studio that no-one had any interest in. The guy I had the little studio with had stumped up the cash for the records pressing and things were looking bad as we just could not get a distributor to take them. One day in a fit of desperation I walked to Eastern Bloc records in the rain armed with 17 of the records in a bag (All I could fit in my bag) hoping to put them in the various record shops in Manchester. It was an absolute diamond from Eastern Bloc called Dean Wilson who really gave me his time and actually listened to the tracks and played them in Sankeys etc and pushed the track for us and also gave us our first order (he took 300 on the day I walked into Eastern bloc) , and gave a copy to Sasha ..... then a few months later we get a phone call from Scott from Global Underground. Crazy really how things come about, and after all that effort, thanks to a Weasel called Simon who pocketed all the cheques (and never wrote a note of music), Stefan and I never made a penny from it(nothing to do with Sasha or GU, they were great). Peace Steve P.

A true masterpiece mixed during the days where trance DJs were trying to out-trance each other with anthems. Sasha found the sweet spot resulting in music you can imagine being played at a sunset beach club, a packed saturday evening club or even just sticking it on at home to relax to. A one of a kind!
