I've been able to resolder mine twice now and fix it. The big square surface mounted chip you see at 0:33 has a broken leg underneath on mine and I had to stick I tiny pin in the hole, solder it in and reconnect the leg to the chip and the leg to the board. I can tell by looking at the back of that board all the legs going through the board from that chip get hot.
All of the pins in the back of the chip have continuity to one another. So this time I ran a tiny piece of wire to the pin that had become desoldered from one of the well soldered through pins in the chip. I did it last night hope it lasts a while. Its working now, fuel gauge, RPM, Speed, Temp.
These needles flip around so hard when this happens the RPM needle broke in half the last time. Its so aggravating to get this thing out without tearing something up.
I did it once again last night without destroying any plastic just have to be real patient and careful. I hate snap in stuff especially when the vehicle gets some age on it. Every time you snap a piece out your risk destroying it.

Turns out my 1999 has a larger daughter board with three connectors -- the two you mention, and one to the far right top (on your video). None of the pins actually moved, but I noticed what appeared to be cold solder joints. I reflowed each pin and so far, the car has run for 20 minutes with no issues. I'll keep you posted! Thanks for the tip!

Thank you for your video. I was driving down the road at 55 mph, then all my guages started dancing. It said that my 2002 Ford Windstar CLE van was going in access of 120 mph, then it would go to zero, then back again. All my guages are doing this now.

Thanks for the tip I'm Electronics Tech could not help but notice that you have a suspicious electrolytic capacitor in the bottom center of the photo when I see the wrapping pool back around the edges I generally replace them and if I take the time to test them they are usually bad when this is happened

The cluster on my 2002 windstar has gone dead - all gauges read zero and do not move even when car is being driven - it still starts and drives but no instruments, no blower motor, no head or parking lights, wipers, turn signals, etc. I have brake lights and horn only. What could be the problem and cure?

I may have to replace the cluster on a 2003 windstar...
do we have to reprogram the replacement cluster?
