Incredibly EASY, thanks to you!. Others want to take out the whole control panels but this was super easy. My van was ice covered and I did not have the replacement part yet, so with the actuator out, I used a 3/8 to 1/4 adapter and inserted it into the "D" hole (by hand) and rotated the flap left and held it there. Then I turned on the fan and slid the lever to heat, pulled out the 1/4 adapter and the flap stayed "up" allowing my van to warm up so I could go get my part.

Thank you for this video! I bought a 2002 Windstar today for my brother. The vehicle is in awesome shape but the heat didn't work thru the vents or defroster. The heat did work in the rear zone. After watching your video I did the repair myself! The little plastic gear was the culprit! It only cost me $38.17 to do the repair and about 40 minutes of actual labor. I dropped one of the screws and it took me about 10 minutes to find where it fell! Thank you again for this detailed video!

Did this today! The coat hangers didn't work so I bought the tool for $9 at Advanced Auto. Also found a replacement actuator at the same place. Took the old one apart and the little teeth were gone all but about 6 or so. Checked the door and it moved smoothly. Thanks a lot. One suggestion is to take the glove box and take it out and place your light in that area, worked like a charm!

Great video , fixed mine last night !!!!!!!!! I spent $7 on the radio tool and $36 on the part. The hardest part was getting my big hands in the tight spots !!!! Would like to add that I did have to unfasten a plastic fastener that held some wires in place. Just could not get the actuator in place without doing this. Thanks Again Patrick

Your video is amazing. My husband just replaced this part the Air Blender Aucator. On his 2002 Ford Windstar cargo van. Living in South Florida he never used the heat. I looked at several utubes concerning my 2001 Ford Windstar heater problem. First clicking sound for awhile, then month later no sound and no heat in front,. I watched this utube and followed the directions and 30 minutes later the old motor actuator is out. And I checked the damper as directed and its good. Made my own tool to remove radio using wire similar to coat hanger. Once i get new actuator and install will have heat again. Its been cold here in Pa. Best utube Ive seen on this subject, thanks alot.

Thank YOU so much ... I've had the click-click which came & went at its will, then first time I've needed heat ... none. We followed your instructions to replace accuator in less than 2 hours. The radio removal was the hardest part (we watched your hanger tool vid and got it.. but it took a bigger wire than just a hanger!) All I can say is WOW. I searched for 'Windstar no heat' and your vid popped right up!

    the instructions were fantastic.
I removed and replaced the actuator in 1 hour.
I purchased the radio remover tool for $8, which removed the radio fast and easy.
the toughest part was removing the bolts. not much room, but was able to do it.
I opened the old actuator to see the issue.
the problem with my old actuator was the smaller gear had teeth missing.
I tested the blend door as you suggested and there was no problem with it.
Put the new actuator back in place and connect power, attached the bolts and presto had heat.
thanks for your video it made the repair a do-it-your-self. thanks.....

I fucking hated taking the bitch of a radio out of my grandmas 2001 model; half the time the stupid u pins got stuck or would pull out, or the track didn't line up, and then we got the wrong door actuator and had to wait three days for a new one to arrive in store, and after 3 years with no heat, and hearing no more complaints about having no heat, it was all well worth the effort, thank god.

Good info, i went ahead and took off the whole plastic front to have more working room and to not have to remove the radio with special tool. Just 2, 7mm screws right above where the cup holder sits and you can pop the whole front off and just unplug the radio.

Thank you so much for this video! I just replaced this in my 2001 SE Sport. My installation had one additional step. I have a power outlet on the passenger side of the lower plastic piece. After disconnecting the plastic clips holding the piece on, I needed to disconnect the wire clip for the power outlet, and then I could remove the whole U-shaped plastic piece. Just an additional since please step. Thanks again!

Great video. This helped me do the same repair today. I found that the radio actually doesn't have to be removed, except that it gave me more daylight to work. I was able to do it all from the bottom while laying on my back. It didn't take more than 45 minutes including cleaning the old soda off of that shroud! It cost the same as Patrick below.

Yessir, that twas the problem!! What it was is, inside the actuator the LITTLE wheel of mine had a few broken teeth on it. But Every move you made I made. Right up to installing the new one. Unfortunately, they (AutoZone) gave me the wrong actuator. That little "key piece" on the new one wouldn't fit in the slot. The front of it was circled not a square 🤦🏻‍♂️ I now have to wait till Wednesday for delivery.
But, THANKS to YOU it'll only take me 7min to do. I APPRECIATE YOU bud👍🏻👍🏻if you have more vids, I'm SURE I'll be needing and watching them🤣🤙🏻

of this part. I did tried first without removing the bottom part. Well I ended dropping a screw right behind the misc.basket.
so I pulled out all 4 plastic clips , removed the bottom tray and looked for the missing screw. once I found it , i assembled back everything and voila' I was done. Thanks again.

Just one quick question before I place my order for the blend door actuator. First I didn't even know what it's called! But looking at the synmtoms I think it's the blend door actuator problem. I am getting "clicking sound" whenever I move the lever all the way down to COLD and up to HOT and the heater does not work. This is the blend door actuator problem, right?

Great video ...I have a '99 Windstar SEL with this same issue, but after removing the old actuator, I didn't seem to have enough room to maneuver the new one around to get the arm into the opening ...I don't seem to have nearly as much room as you have in your video. The keyhole opening was not at the same orientation as the key arm, which would require me inserting the arm, then twisting the actuator so that the screw holes line up, but there's just no room for that. Is the '99 different in some way? Now I'm afraid I stripped the opening where the arm goes from screwing around with it so much. Any ideas?

We took out the actuator and it looked good. So we did the "test" and we could open/close the door. We put a black dot on the actuator and then re-installed it. You can see it move from noon to three and three to noon when you go hot to cold and cold to hot, but the air temp never changes. Is it possible that the actuator is turning, but not actually doing anything? Since it's keyed, we thought not, but figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. Can't think of any other reason why we aren't getting hot air. THanks!

Yes. The problem turned out to be that there was no coolant. After refilling, we immediately got hot air. This worked for a little while and then it leaked out again. Turned out we had a bad heater core.

    hi
    I have I few questions.
my 98 Windstar has no heat
first step I did was to check if the fuse was blown and it was so I changed it and it worked for a bit but then it blew again
next step was I checked the motor wire and it was good and in working condition then I checked wire on the switch and changed the switch and change the resistor everything looked fine and the fan ran for a little bit but still blew the fuse.
I plan on checking the wires from the motor to the fuse to look for any cracks or breaks or if its touching anything but I was wondering if I am on the right path, or if you have any ideas.
Also could it possible that the motor has too much resistance or if maybe its getting too hot, I don't wan to change the blower motor unless I have to
    Thanks
    Andre

my boys car only blows cold or heat thru defrost only not thru the selected vents will this solve the this problem as well or is there another actuator or a different one for ac mode? We replaced the selector switch but the same thing happens it only blows thru the defrost vents and not a lot of pressure at all just sort of a trickle.

On a 99 wind star what does it mean if there is a slow coolant leak n now there is no heat, and or defrost?it’s just blowing cold air

I have a 2007. Could it be possible for this motor to go bad & prop the door open partially? I'm getting heat on the driver side & not on the passenger.

Is the Blend Door Actuator what regulates the heat, even thought air is blowing through the vents? I also have a tapping noise that persists unless I slide the temperature lever into an exact spot about 3/4 inch to the right on the sliding lever that sets the temperature.

    Thanx for the tips.
At around 2:30 into this vid you mention another vid explaining in more depth how to remove the radio using a coat hangar. I checked your channel but couldn't find it.
Is it still there? Do you have a direct link?

I am really interested in trying this procedure but I have never done anything like this before. I would like to try this before I take it to the mechanic but I was wondering what are the symptoms that demonstrate it is the actuator that is broken and not something else? In my Ford Windstar 2000, only cold air comes out whether I put it on the heat or the cold side. Are those symptoms that it is the actuator? Before buying the new actuator, is there a way to test if its actually the actuator that it is damaged? Also if your reply could be as simple and detailed as possible, that would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!!!

You should be able to cawl underneath there and see if the shaft on the actuator is moving or not as you turn the temp dial. Alternately you could take it out and do the same thing with the electrical connector connected. You will usually hear clicking if they are bad. Have you checked the engine coolant?

Actually nvm, I followed all the steps and "GREAT SUCCESS, VERY NICE, I LIKE" It was actually a bit hard to remove the bolts (the bottom one and the one on the right side). I also had difficulty placing the new actuator in its place due to wires in the way, eventually I found a sweet spot and got it in! Thanks man!!

Ford redesigned these to make them operate slower to prevent gear stripping over time.

Everything being shown here is great …. But I just replaced mine today and found an easier way….U must remove the radio to even see the whole alignment where u or going to insert the new one…And They must be the same position as it will not go in …. If they are not the same which I don’t think they will be..lol
just take new one and plug it in to the wire plug inside the radio opening there,,,,, Trust me it simple and u can get two hands in there one to hold the piece and one to hold plug and insert …Turn the key on and let it adjust itself it will automatically you won’t see it move just give it 30 seconds and will set itself like the one that come out… Now if you only have two bolts on the left side you can reached them by going up the side and behind that molding instead of removing it..Plenty of room there already and I am a big man with big arms…….. But mine had three one on the bottom of the right side. So All I did was pull out the two plastic retainers on the right side panel and gently pulled back and out and gave me enough room to shove my arm up in there and behind to ratchet the other bolt off without removing it completely … Took me 45 minutes start to finished… I hope this helps someone out...Michael…
