Saw the band at the University of Toledo in 1970 or 71. $2.00 and a student ID. Way ahead of their time. They just blew me away. Still love all their songs. I am glad to have found this many people who still have great memories of their music.
The guitarist on this record and live at Carnegie hall plus Its a Beautiful day today (1973) was just 21 years old a former studio guitarist in Memphis and New Orleans and was discovered by the band playing on Bourbon st my Brother Billy Gregory
I really like this band. Their debut album is awesome and some of the subsequent recordings are pretty great. It is a crying shame that all of their Columbia Records label recordings have not been remastered and reissued.
After doing four years in the Navy, I got out in Dec. 1972. I bought a new Dodge van. I put a bed and nice interior along with foam insulation for sound and temp. control. the outside paint was orange and I added light orange panels. My CB handle was " The Camel". To top off the paint job I did a bit of pin stripping in brown. The final touch was the album cover picture painted on both sides upper rear corners, including the Camels tennis shoes, his Balls and the flies. Thank for reminding.
Bought this album within the first month of original release back in the 1970's. Unfortunately no longer have this LP and finding a CD copy of this LP today is impossible. Must admit buying this years ago after their debut LP (self titled), this recording took a totally different direction. They were like pioneers of progressive rock on their first studio LP although most people identify them with the psychedelic era especially if you saw them in concert performing live. This recording seems to me a different direction, still very good indeed. Back then a lot of recording acts got into this type of experimental music that was avante-garde: rock, jazz, blues, country and/or pop fusion. Many recording acts that went solo after becoming popular in Rock bands got into these experimental blend recordings that are hard to pin point as a genre since they have a blend of all kinds of different things happening. Off the top of my head I can think of Boz Scaggs, Tim Davis, Ben Sidran, post Steve Miller Band members. A lot of these performers never gained a lot of popularity (Boz Scaggs the exception) yet still released some impressive recordings.
This is the transitional record when they changed guitarist and bass player. On this track: David LaFlamme, vocals and rhythm guitar; Val Fuentes, drums and vocals, Hal Wagenet, guitar; Mitchell Holman, bass, and Fred Webb, keyboards. Sorry I don't know the horn players names.
This is the one that saves the entire disk and still managed to screw up the song with a little shouting and unnecessary noises. because they lacked the subtlety of Gandalf Hang on to a dream and even in Quicksilver Messenger Changes.
This band and Tree Dog Night were my favorites back then.

Just love the B-3 work on this cut.
Thanks for sharing your memories. I'm glad to read it.
Perhaps the funniest album art ever. And a great record, despite what some people say.
It's good album art, and funny, but I also like this m.media-amazon.com/images/I/819nMcnVi0L._SL1416_.jpg

And how could I forget Pattie Santos, who is doubtless singing on the chorus also!
