It's so nice to see Lizzy (and Amanda Seyfried recently in the interview she did with Lindsay Lohan too) saying how proud they truly are to say they were a part of Mean Girls now as opposed to having been a bit annoyed cuz they were always linked to it back in the day. Really wish the whole original cast got to reunite in a new project, they seem to really enjoy and appreciate each other
liz caplan is ok
Liz Cheney is my hero.
Why can't rachel McAdams ever be part of these reunions?
She must have been the quit storer one of those pink is new black crew.
Dios te oiga sala cines estallando
"Sometimes we add stuff in" was such a fantastic line
I audibly laughed
I work at a high school and you’d be amazed how many boys, especially, know and have memorized“Mean Girls.” I agree that this movie is timeless. Every kid who has attended a public school in the US has known a Regina, Gretchen, Karen, Cadie, Damien, or Janis.
Before Mean Girls, kids apparently memorized The Princess Bride.
For my social circle it was American Pie, that "drive" to find a girlfriend:))
She seriously hasn't aged at all, her skin is amazing
It’s the foot cream
She looks younger than you, certainly.
@@LettuceLeav3s Her face smells like peppermint
She's a vampire and looks like Katy Perry
@@chayo4537 she's a lady! Whoaaa whoaaaaooo! Yeah, she's a lady.
Mean Girls is a modern classic. I loved it growing up but watched it again recently for the first time in years and was surprised I enjoyed it even more now as I could see what a clever and witty satire it is of a world that is very real and experienced by so many.
Resurgence?! It never left. It’s so ever present in the pop culture zeitgeist. So quotable.
"...we add stuff in". Utterly fantastic contribution from Gourley 🤣
They're not me friend.
For those wondering, Paul Bettany (Vision from Marvel movies) is the person who didn’t want Caplan on the show. He left the show “for undisclosed reasons” and was then replaced by Michael Sheen.
Ooh thanks for mentioning lol. I wonder what the issue was?
@@edo27 Maybe his wife didn't want him to do it
That makes me very sad, I really like Paul
Her character in Inside Job is awesome.
i'm currently trying to hear her a reagan ridley and it is SO HARD FOR ME
God, I had a huge crush on Lizzy, she still looks incredible ❤
indeed
I still do
I totally agree with her that _Mean Girls_ feels a lot more recent. I can't believe it came out almost 20 years ago.
It’s funny how even before social media and smart phones they still incorporated a lot of the same social situations that modern times has, such as the three way call attack. It helps it feel way more modern
I listened to the podcast this morning, enjoyed it. She's quick witted and funny. I don't think Conan asked a question- I think they all just hung out and talked. Conan's podcasts are nice on earbuds, to and from work. 👍✌️
Lizzy is a completely underrated actor. She is great in everything. Party Down is my favorite though. Castle Rock is good too.
It’s a small part but she is fantastic in Hot Tub Time Machine
Party Down is an underrated classic imo.
It's too bad she couldn't come back for the new season of Party Down. Just discovered it last year
She was in The Interview as well
I think she and Emmy Rossum followed similar trajectories, in that they both took on roles that were a pretty wild departure from what they were likely perceived to not be a good fit for - Lizzy with Masters Of Sex, and Emmy with Shameless, but then both did awesome with those roles. Also, caught a few episodes of Party Down recently, which is really good. Looking forward to it coming back.
Unfortunately Lizzy isn't returning to Party Down
Such a talent, enjoy everything she's in and I've never seen her as one particular character because she has the range that so many actors can only aspire to, can't wait for the Fatal Attraction miniseries!
Best hour ever of your podcast thus far. Truly awesome.
It's interesting that Lizzy said she has a bunch of comedian friends who aren't getting called in for roles that are more dramatic. The casting directors must be idiots because I thought it was pretty well known fact at this point that comedians do very well in dramatic roles. It's not a hard and fast rule but more often than not they're capable of doing the role. A recent example, look at Aubrey Plaza in Emily The Criminal. She got cast in mostly comedies then had to go out and produce this movie herself and she's brilliant.
I think it's probably because they have to think of the audience and profit. Many comedians are great dramatic actors, but sometimes it's due to the audience having trouble letting go of images they have of certain actors. If you're known for playing "weird" roles, it's probably hard to get cast as romantic leads. If you're a child actor, it's hard to transition into adult roles. If you're the comedic actor, I imagine it's hard to shed that funny image to be taken seriously. Sometimes it doesn't matter how talented you are because sometimes the audience struggle with differentiating. Think about how many times someone has gotten cast in a role that caused an uproar simply because of the image they constructed based on the actor's previous jarringly different work, only to be proven wrong. To this day, even after many cases of proving that the viewers don't always know what's best, we still continue to declare with certainty about what actors are and not capable of. That's why it's so easy getting typecast, whether it's because you find yourself nailing a certain role that people see and that ends up being what people want to cast you as because they know you do it well, or that you play a role long enough that that role is all people see you as...
I came here because she voices Regan from the netflix show inside job. I loved the maniacal laugh she did for Regan.
I saw Party Down and it was awesome. I also love how Adam Scott reunited with her on s2 of Inside Job
She’s great in everything - great part in new girl
Lizzy Caplan is criminally underrated, she is so great
Ironically, Party Down is the only thing I’ve ever seen her in. 😂 Loved that show!!!!
Wish she would've joined the reunion series :(
I absolutely loved Party Down. I still watch it today!
Oh my god please go and watch mean girls!!!
New girl!!!
Fantastic program. I’d love to see that come back in some capacity. I feel like they could do something really fun.
my favorite role of her has been in Castle Rock. she was amazing. and it's sad i don't feel like a ton of people were talking about it at the time. but she's very talented
Lizzy is definitely "WB Pretty" 😂 wonderful actress!
“Resurgence” come on now, it’s literally never left. 😂
I loved Party Down! Such a shame that it did not last longer.
Gourley was meant to be Conan's podcast producer. Beyond perfect!
Sona and Matt rule!
I watched Party Down! And I'm from Hungary. :) A movie critic guy was writing about it at the time how great it was so many of us watched it and loved it.
She was my fav character in Mean Girls and Cloverfield. Instantly got a crush
Loved her in Mean Girls as a kid but loved her even more in Castle Rock as an adult.
I would've never guessed this was the actress who played Janis Ian... she looks completely different to me... and VERY attractive :)
THANK YOU! It blew my mind when I found out Lizzy was Janis! And omg today cemented the fact in my life that I am unintentionally attracted to Jewish girls. 😍 Can't help it dog. 🤣
The producers actually thought Lizzy Caplan was too pretty to play Janis, but eventually cast her due to considering her the best actress that auditioned.
I'm a bit disappointed Lizzy couldn't be in the Party Down reunion. They got the whole cast back except for her, which is a shame. She was a main character and story driver of that show, and she was great in it.
I ❤ Lizzy on Podcast! So Real, so funny
I had NO idea that was her!! Mind officially blown.
How does she look so young omg
master of sex was amazing! loved that show... lizzy was absolutely brilliant, and michael too.
Mean Girls is a classic! I laugh every time I see it.
My dad’s cousin is the actual Janis Ian her character was named after (she’s a folk singer) so I always had a familial affinity towards her.
That's cool
Did she ever find love?
@@genghiscan2918 Real Janis or a movie reference? (I probably haven’t watched Mean Girls in like 5 years, so memory might be hazy on some details)
Party Down was damn underrated almost forgot that show even existed
I'm pretty sure the person she was talking about that she couldn't say was Paul Bettany, because he was the original choice to play the character before being replaced with Michael Sheen. Look up the article, "Paul Bettany Exits Showtime Pilot 'Masters Of Sex'. I wonder if he left the show because he joined Marvel or if he had something against Lizzy.
Also, when you compare what she looks like compared to her Mean Girls co-stars, it's insane. She looks like MAYBE 3-4 years older and they filmed it almost 20 years ago, meanwhile Lindsay Lohan looks like she aged 30 years in that time. Shows you how important it is to take care of health, but I guess a lot of it is the genetic lottery. Either way I gotta cut down on the drinking.
Apparently he didnt want to work with her because he thought she was too ugly
Michelle Ashford confirmed in a Q&A a few years back that Paul Bettany didn't like Lizzy and it was the reason he left the show
I don't think there is a resurgence, I don't think it's ever died period lol, I think every good person passes that film down to their siblings or children. Heroes get remembered; Legends never die.
great episode
love her on Inside job
Never watched it for the longest time though ive always loved school/high school/teen movies growing up. Finally watched it last year after already having entered my 30s. Needless to say i wish i had discovered it sooner but also am very happy that i did finally watch it cuz wow, that film was just sooo much fun and is def one that i will go back to again and again in the future.
Mean girls came out almost 20 years ago 🤯
How does Lizzy look even better then ever?
I always obsessed with Lizzy beauty I wish I had a beautiful mom like her ❤❤❤❤
“That’s emotionally resonant.” (Looks away.)
Okay, Conan.
I haven't seen anything she's done but I still love her, based on the interviews she's done with Conan.
These unique comedies establish their footing in time and give a lot of big name actors
She looks great
Her skin is beautiful omg
Party Down!!!!!🎉
What a delight. Coincidentally I just today watched an Angie Tribeca episode with her.
Okay hear me out. I just listened to this podcast today at work, knew Lizzy Caplan from Masters of Sex and always thought she is so beautiful also had the biggest crush on Janis from Mean Girls as all the goth and metal guys did when that movie came out. BUT. I NEVER KNEW LIZZY CAPLAN PLAYED JANIS IAN!!! WTF?! 🤯🤯🤯 And I was a metalhead male from Ohio in my mid 20's when Mean Girls came out and me and all my friends loved it and still do. Why? Just like Lizzy said, cause kids are f'n mean, that movie will live on like The Breakfast Club, lol. Love Lizzy, love Conan and his entire team on this podcast. 💜💜💜
This interview is so fetch!
Lizzy Caplan was my dream girl in 2004
She was good in Hot Tub Time Machine.
I never realized that she was that character... whuuuut
I loved mean girls and party down, also liked bachelorette better than bridesmaids.
I love that's she friends with Lindsay Sloane. She's another actress who I enjoy seeing pop up in stuff.
Maybe they'll have to moderate the comment but I found some articles online that said "Michael Sheen replaces Pa*l Bett*ny in Masters of Sex" and it did make me go ohhhhh :(
I actually loved her in The Class
I would like more people to be like Lizzy Caplan, please and thank you.
She was funny in Hot Tub Time Machine.
una doncella madre de dios .Tina Fey tenia razon es demaciado hermosa. eĺla se lucio en la película.
I liked Party Down a lot actually. Would recommend.
Mean Girls has the same rediscovery value of any teen movie every generation I've ever seen since The Breakfast Club.
Me a guy from South Asia relating with mean girls. It's surely universal
Funnily enough the Asian character (Kevin G) ends up with Janis Ian 😄
kids are mean to other kids, its a beutiful universal truth
True story that no one cares about. I live in LA and when I was younger, I would frequently go to this Mexican restaurant/bar that is a celebrity hot spot (Casamigos in Sherman Oaks). I was on a date with a guy I was dating and we were full on making out at one of the booths. Look, I know it's tacky but I was young, horny, and didn't care.....also it's kind of a dark restaurant so you cannot see that much. As we were in the middle of our makeup session, Lizzy Caplan is just a couple of booths down and then she started making out with the guy she was with. By the time she was doing it, then another table started to make out. It was truly something I'll never forget lmao.
i wish she was in the Party Down reboot
I would die happy if I could go for beers with Lizzy & Conan at a local pub. #lifegoals
it's one of those 2000s movies that kinda feels like an 80s movie
she was very funny in it
Sometimes when she split the tables.
Great movie
mean girls loveeeeeeeeeeeee
Omg I just realized Lizzie Caplan was in mean girls.
I’ll watch it but it sucks that she had JUST booked that new version of Fatal Attraction for Paramount+ *right* before STARZ announced they were bringing back “Party Down” for a third season. Jennifer Garner is going to play the love interest of Adam Scott’s character instead. I’m glad the show is coming back, I just hate when scheduling conflicts like that occur.
The premise of Mean Girls is perennial, and its cruelty is why it feels honest.
Isn't the only other male actor from the 1st season Nicholas D'Agosto. Beau didn't have a ton of scenes with Lizzy.
This Lizzy Kaplan. One smooth high speed low drag customer is she. I've enjoyed her work, but in person she is utterly engaging. And she can crank the jokes too.
Call me crazy, but she's got the beaming charm of Pinky Tuscadero and some brooding Joan Jett kick ass 'tude ready to pounce.
Say, wouldn't Villaseñor be a hilarious guest for a funny jam session with Il Bambino Rosso? That lady is well rounded, as mama mia would say.
Is there even budget for remotes and packages? Anywhere? Jeepers, I hope so.
Suits. AKA vision crushers as my great great godfather in law would say.
VC's can break your heart, north or south, I reckon..
2:44 btw she's glossing over the dying her hair blonde thing, but two years ago she said in an interview that she wasn't able to find work *UNTIL* she'd dyed her hair blonde. What a ridiculous industry. I hate supporting it sometimes... but who doesn't like movies?
I liked her in cloverfeild.
I love her version of Janis now more than ever
What I don’t understand about a film like Mean Girls is the notion that social politics in high school is something that either primarily concerns women or primarily impacts women. In my opinion, there are few stories being told about toxic politics within male friend groups, and I find that particularly interesting. Do no male writers in Hollywood feel that there’s a lesson to be learned for men about how they engage in social politics in their teen years? Controversial take, but I think that (many) straight men think themselves above it, when the reality is that I don’t think they have the media representation to even unlock that level of consciousness 🤷🏻♂️
Wow so true!!!
Why not watch Martin Scorsese's Mean Streets? Now that's a film that pertains to men.
Super Bad !!
American Pie, 10 Things I Hate About You, Donnie Darko,
Varsity Blues, The Breakfast Club
Isn’t that basically every nerd turns cool guy movie?
Mean Girls was the next generations The Breakfast Club. It's about how we could all relate to at least one person in each film.
In a way. I don't think the Breakfast Club has the same pull though, it appeals far more to gen x than the following generation. I mean I'm an "elder" millennial and while I 100% knew of The Breakfast Club it was pretty dated by my teen years in the 90's...which is only 10 years after it came out. Mean Girls still seems to have pretty wide spread appeal to teens now (zenials) and it's almost 20 years later.
I hate that they’re doing a Mean Girls sequel without any of the original cast members and it’s a musical.
I never realized that was her
We’ll make progress when we realize the meanest people in high school are the teachers.
Paul Bettany
Mean Girls and Scary Movie 3 are so quotable....I love ealry 2000 films how they were so dumb and yet so funny.
damn was Paul Bettany the co-star? know he left the project and was replaced with Sheen.
Yeah apparently he didnt want to work with her because he thought she was too ugly
I hope she'll start getting roles in better films.
Alternate Title: Reagan Ridley on a Podcast
how many people were Eli Zabut ii 9.
Apropos of nothing, Michael Sheen replaced Paul Bettany on M.O.S...
It was him who didnt want to work with her because he thought she was too ugly to be his co star
@@stephaniej2556 Source?
@@whiskeystone6188 We know Paul originally had the role before Michael and part of the hold up was Paul had a say in the female lead (so Paul is 100% the person Lizzy is talking about). As for the "too ugly" thing, who knows.
I always got her and Mary Elizabeth weinstesd mixed up
both extremely gorgeous
She could be sisters with Alison Brie and Alex Daddario
She's not trying to be funny. She just talks.
