Rudy is my favorite simply because I was raised as a Catholic and Notre Dame was the ONLY college football team. And I'm so old they were still legitimately called the Fighting Irish back then, which meant they were a really good team with a great battle song. @mgentles3 Год назад

@@williamwagoner7857 As to the Notre Dame students and players being heavily of Irish descent, that was many moons ago. Even when I was young (and I'm 72) there were very few Irish playing Notre Dame football. The school saw the worth of very large Nordic guys and sought their services.
Now the team is majority African American. But of course their identity remains. After all, it didn't come from the football field at all, but from a brawl. It's claimed that the students disrupted and destroyed a meeting of the KKK in the 1920s when that group was just as vicious to Catholics as to Blacks. It's a good story, but I heard many years ago that it was simply a random brawl. On the other hand, if Lou Holtz said it, who am I to disagree? Notre Dame was a Catholic University. Nearly every Irish immigrant was Catholic. Of course that's where they chose to matriculate if they possibly could. See "Rudy".

My sophomore year I too had a little fumbling problem And yes my dad walked onto The practice field to berate me in front of my teammates. My head coach had to grab him by the arm and escort him off the field. Yep I had one of those dads, God rest his soul.
My coach solved my fumbling problem by doing the old carry the football wherever you go trick, all day long, and other players would sneak up behind me and try and knock it out of my arms 😂 all day... In the hallways, in the bathrooms, at lunch, before and after school in the parking lot, everywhere! It worked! Not a single fumble my junior and senior year.

Interesting that the championship matchup features two movies with serious father-son confrontations. Just an observation. Also I think Hoop Dreams deserved some consideration; although it was originally a PBS documentary, which might explain its immediate disqualification. Phenomenally great movie though, in my book. Anyway, of the movies presented, I agree that Friday Night Lights is the best. Reuniting Billy Bob Thornton and Lucas Black, the heartbreaking scene when Booby Miles cries on is uncle's shoulder after realizing the his football career ended in high school; and the tearjerking end when Permian loses to Dallas Carter (which was fictional, by the way)...great soundtrack, solid acting. Field of Dreams was my favorite sports move until I saw Friday Night Lights.

Sandlot, Longest Yard, A league of their own, The program, Greatest Game ever played. When y'all were talking about friday night lights, I thought you were talking about Varsity Blues. I was like how??? Friday night Lights was a great book.

Missing from the list: Secretariat; Seabiscuit; Moneyball; The Sandlot; Searching for Bobby Fisher; A River Runs Through It; Cool Runnings; 42; Chariots of Fire; The Blindside; and Bend it Like Beckham.
The Natural & Cinderella Man should have gone much higher.

FNL is phenomenal movie, great football, great script inspired by true stories. It truly captures the many personalities that make up a football team as well the struggles that are faced by many young men on a football team and the perseverance that is required to get out of a small town where there’s not opportunity for you in the future.
