Don't know why the leaver penalty for unranked. 90% of the time even the backfill is an improvement. There's been countless games that were lost causes until the trash leaves, then we end up winning. Now they'll be bad AF, and AFK chillin waiting for the match to end.
Even if the backfill aren't good, they want to play the game which is a vast improvement. I'd rather lose a game with a poor backfill who at least tries to win than locking someone into my game just to have them afk and throw just so they don't get banned. I've literally had people in my match say 'dude it's only qp' when I call them out for throwing.
Once in a while there are leavers on winning teams. I went on a losing streak and the only game I won until that point was backfill replacing a leaver from a winning team. Like the game said fine I'll give you a winning team this time, but only for 30 seconds lol.
Being afk in spawn or otherwise deliberately throwing instantly results in a report from me and whomever I am I a party with.
Pretty much every week I get a thank you for reporting message 😂

I like how this whole "wide group" thing is being sold as some new thing they are introducing, it's been a thing since launch, they've been throwing players from vastly different skill ratings into the same games to preserve queue times at the cost of match quality, i'd rather sit in a 10 minute queue for a game than have every single game be completely one sided and have players in the lobby who don't belong there in one direction or the other.
I love when games say they like having competitive be competetive but in the same sentence let Grandmasters Q with Bronzes
They’re only gonna fight other people doing the same thing. It’s actually helping it be competitive as it’s separating the causal people who just wanna play with friends (wide groups) from the people who solo queue trying to rank up (narrow groups). Also great at fighting boosters so your ranks will be more accurate

@@PaulStargasm it doesn't compromise any competitive integrity if Fred and Micheal Jordan are playing pretend NBA in their backyard. As mentioned, if the skill gap is too large like the Fred and Micheal Jordan example, then the match doesn't mean much. It just let's you play it as an option with little to no gain or loss from it. This also means that Fred and bob solo queueing will go against players like them more often while people that stacks will only go against other stacks making it so that there's more competitive integrity. I swear it's not that hard of a concept to understand.
@@ashonline77 I do understand the point, but why not just play quick play if you want casual rounds with friends? To me it just sounds like quick play with a different name, but some of the matches are just a tad longer?
@@Mara-lj8uq it's just an option to play competitively with competitive ruleset (attack and defend for both teams) if your skill gap is too wide. Although remember that only when it's too wide that it's not gonna change your progress that much. When it's closer together but still considered a wide group (for eg: duo + trio or 5 stack gm players) it only stops the stacks from playing against solo players. It'll still have a decent amount of progression because your skill range isn't too wide. Same for something like diamond and gold playing together. You won't gain as much as a gold or diamond player solo queuing but you will gain a lot more progress than a diamond and a bronze queuing together. The extreme example here being gm or champ player queuing with bronze and only at that point does it become "just for fun competitive" with next to nothing gained or lost.

If you don’t want to play why would the person that’s joins after either. Nobody wants to be backfilled and most just leave instantly as well making your spot never actually filled.

My thoughts too. After the bans came in I didn't play for a couple of months and only recently started playing again. These latest ones have put me off returning now though. I'll go play other games and just watch this guy's vids.
If steamrolls weren't so common I wouldn't leave. This will just lead me to give up and feed so the match gets over quicker.

I been banned for chat so many times and not even said bad things , the game isn’t even about skill anymore and most maps are not great . 5v5 was a mistake and I was actually a fan of it when it started , I do still play but matchmaking and all this other stuff doesn’t excite me

@shadowboy2417 OW2 is free to play with most skins being $20. CoD is $60 plus has $20 bundles in the shop. Just say you don't like OW. OW has a much better model than CoD and that's a fact. Just cause in your opinion you think OW2's monetization is bad doesn't mean it isn't better than CoD which releases a trash game every year for the same amount of money for a worse copy of the previous game. In no world should anyone think OW2 has the worse monetization because IT IN FACT COULD BE WORSE.
Because that outrage is ridiculous. Shop prices will raise or lower as demand dictates, not as people bitch about it. It's simple supply and demand. If enough people were to not buy skins at their prices, they would lower. Clearly enough people still buy them, that they aren't lowering them.
Being able to pin certain players is such a great addition. I know everyone hates it when you avoid someone, and they disappear after a week and then they'll always reappear in your games lol.
This may be a hot take: I understand that they're trying to improve the qol in our games, however I feel that the penalties for qp are a little harsh. Especially for a mode that was originally designed around getting better with different heroes. I would rather have someone quit out of a game than have them jump off the map 50 times or emote in the spawn. Hell most of the time my backfill is better than the previous teammate. I do understand the frustration with having someone leave out of a game but at the same time it's quickplay. It's supposed to be a game that you can hop on and off quickly with no actual dedication or repercussions. I do believe there should be some type of penalty system but maybe not to that extent. Idk that's just my opinion.
You do realize you can report people for throwing. The behavior you described is throwing and they will act on it if they get reported enough. This is the sort of behavior I report and I am constantly getting the popup telling me my report has let to an actionable suspension. You quitting mid match due to someone like this isn't really any better than their behavior at the end of the day.
@@blaynegreiner9365 Who said anything about me quitting games? Also I do realize there's a report system. Since the start of OW2 I haven't gotten a single pop up of any of my reports going through. regardless I stand by that it's Quickplay. It's not meant to be treated as Comp.

It does kind of ruin the experience for people when they are suddenly down a teammate for a minute, so I get why they’d have stakes from leaving QP

I thought wide groups were already a thing this season? Do plats really w key the tank unironically?
So, when they pair a plat tank and a bronze support against another plat tank and bronze support ... what happens to the other six spots on the teams? since solo-players are not a thing for "wide groups" they have to get another 2 fitting three-stacks to make the match a 5v5 situation.
I'm curious about the queue times tbh.
They need to create an additional quick play mode if they are going to dish out this severe of quickplay leaver penalties. I wanna be able to leave if a match is shit or if I’m gettin bothered by someone in the game. I’m not gunna sit through stomps or harassment when I have limited time to play the game.
If they worked as hard on actual progression in this game as they did features for the 10 content creators that play it, the game would be in a better place.
The avoid/group/chat changes are good and long over due.
Tried to play after a long day at work, match didn’t load but it still proceeded to kick me out and ban me for 20 minutes, I never even got to the hero select screen

Got perms banned at the start of season 8 when Mauga came out after playing one game and getting kicked. The leaver penalty for this game is crazy compared to literally every other game for the unranked mode. It’s doubly insane when you consider the fact that even if you leave in QP they still backfill the match. So punishing someone for leaving is almost pointless.
That's not possible. Leaving 1 game there is no penalty and leaver penalties are reset at beginning of season.

It's the 2 games that worries me because today I had a double server shutdown today. That would bump me almost right to the 20 minutes. If it happens two days in a row then I am screwed for a week. I think they need to rethink that in terms of the casual.
My dcs are very random but since you can usually rejoin I don't think its bad enough to get you banned, I occasionally get the suspension but it only happens like a few times per season at most so I'm not worried. I think overwatch is looking up
When you get player surveys, do fill them in with words. Responses are usually scanned by AI for keywords and sentiment and often software counts laugh emojis as happy. 😅
Not a fan of the seasonal bans, I do get it but there's times where my internet drops i get booted and even if i join back in, it counts as a left game :(
Keep in mind these penalties are if you leave a vast majority of your games like 3 out of 5 not 1 out 10.
@@redblaster9566 The new leaver penalties now start at 2/20 matches. That's 10% of your matches in a 20 game period, so it's not a vast majority of your matches at all. Most people probably only play 20 games or less a week so you could literally get a ban after leaving a match a week prior.

The only thing that scared me was the fact we are going to lose the spectator mode because that genuinely helps my team so much and when i don't want to watch how i died for the 79th time i could watch my team instead
Per people avoided, these days I never go on VC unless with mates, and I try (failing often) to resist correcting people who (in match chat) air their grievances and perceived exception to any contribution towards losing the game during and after.
Literally you will get no rank change for Wide group games nor should you.

the old system used to let plat to diamond play together which really included a wide skill set of players and could get frustrating if it was unbalanced but a wide grouping i got today had gold5-diamond 1which was felt 10 times worse. i cant play comp with my partner anymore because it feels like ai or open queue. its too unpredictable for us to actually enjoy playing. i got placed plat 5 on supp, won 2 games after lots of leavers, strangely mid teammates etc :(
The only concern I’d have with the leaver penalties is when you’re trying to que with your friends who all get on at different time. You’re playing a game and one buddy gets on, you leave. 2 are playing now and the third now is on so you leave and now you have a 5 minute ban? Gotta wait 5 minutes to play with my buddy? It’s not competitive play.
The Mythical Mercy, Blue Blanka Hanzo Skin, reporting and leaver punishments I’m excited for.
Overwatch swings back and forth so quickly, leaving a game because you got rolled one round (or even one team fight in a lot of cases) makes zero sense if you know anything about OW. You might still be getting rolled, but end up winning when everyone on your team is negative because you clutched up when it mattered. And another thing, why cant we see who is grouped on the scoreboard like in OW1 so we know when we are getting rolled because it put a stack on the other team.
do we think we'll ever get cards back? I feel like cards were a system that they decided not to port over because of time and system compatibility stuff when ow2 was launching (to rush..) much like how they explained LFG succumbed to that fate. But i genuinely think the card system brought a really fun aspect to the game because even if you didnt win, you could see the successes that your team accomplished. I miss it a lot. Also games just end too fast. it feels so inconclusive.
Cards and showing everyones rank in matches is what I'm waiting.. and well the ingame border/lvl flairs also. Not happening I guess.

The healing cards were always my badge of honour. Especially when my teammates moan about lack of healing.
I also miss the bronze, silver, gold medals. Personally I think they should have those on the score board instead of numbers because it's much easier to gage player performance with a medal system than having to compare numbers with everyone.
@@BlaizeTheDragon I liked the healing cards (or I guess numbers based ones) because it gave you reason to compete with the entire lobby, it was fun to know you got the most heals out of everyone

The only arguement for 5v5 is queue times being better, but queue times are basically the same. They are slightly better but that's not because of 5v5 it's because the game went free to play.
the 10 avoid slots is actually a huge buff to high ranked players especially if u run into the same people alot

Its just running out of players. Shame they never gave OW2 an fps version of Diablo, I was really excited by that idea. Oh well. Helldivers & DRG are proving a lot of fun these days.

Thank you for the coverage. Seems like mostly good changes with a couple of questionable ones. I don't feel like the shield change for Hammond fits his playstyle very much. He shouldn't be surrounding himself in the middle of the rest of his team just to sacrifice his own survivability to give them a small health boost, which is what I imagine when hearing how the new adaptive shields would work. He should be doing guerilla warfare in the enemy backline and targeting out of position squishies.
I’ve never been a lower rank tbh as a solo ranked is rough already but when I get enemies in a 4 stack it’s a instant loss or when I get a mate 2 ranks lower I know I’m fucked

For the comp timeouts, what about the times blizz servers are bad and dcs you and you cant make it in cause lets say its start of the match?

If you’re in the group like the green chat, you can type to them and cheer them on still, just not in team (blue) and match (orange) chat

What's so hilarious is you *can* report and squelch spectators on PC. Blizzard is just taking the draconian approach of taking everything away from everybody because a handful of overly sensitive people are offended by a handful of assholes. Might as well just remove both voice and text chat altogether if people are too lazy to just mute people who offend them.
All these penalties are total sh*t. Blizz just needs to make all the battlepasses available at all time, implement a zero exp streek until u have completed the same amount of games you have left... this would be way more effective. Also these penalty changes will kill comp... the seasons are way too long for only 10 times leaving/dc to get a perma ban
No, don't play on crap internet and don't leave games. If you're dc'ing that much you shouldn't be playing comp. You're detrimentally effecting those on your team.
qp leave penalty is bullshit
This feature ruins any game that has it in. Think about Rainbow six siege and Apex legends. This kind of change made apex have such a cheating problem that most players quit the game. Same with rainbow, the top players only Q up with the lowest ranks in order to get easy lobbies and theres literally no detterent its insane.
Yeah but the difference is that if you do that you barely gain anything. It's not a system worth abusing when they can win a normal game and likely gain twice or thrice as much progression. For example a gm player playing with a bronze, both the gm and bronze player would gain next to nothing from it.

All they would be doing is increasing their Queue times, lowering the quality of their matches, and make it so they don't gain any SR for a win. There is no "gaming" the system. It's also an "opt in" system that people don't have to worry about if they don't like it. So long as you aren't queuing with people outside the normal matchmaking, which people can't even do currently, you aren't going to get games like this.
@@blaynegreiner9365 No what lowers the quality of matches is having bronzes in grand master lobbies. If you let every rank match together, you don't have a ranked system anymore. Like it no longer exists.
The "rapid report" has been the standard for a decade in pretty much anything except OW. In this it felt like they were trying to hide how to report people and force to write a poem on top of it. Have to give them some props if they finally managed to make that easy as ass change.
This is a horrible idea given how often OW randomly just disconnects you.
Can we get a button to "Stop Que" after a match instead of "Change Role"
you literally can stop the queue from change role, when you're in that menu you can't queue.....

considering how awful are the servers of overwatch 2 and how sometimes the server just breaks and restart the game, people from the same group stay on the menu screen while others enter on the game and other crazyness of lost connections and reconections being something common (when not with me I see it happens to others every week and these are people from diferent places with diffent internet providers) almost instant blizzard really shoud be fixing their servers before putting any type of rule on qp or season bans on comp. Qp never even needed have a ban to people leaving just give the victory to the side who did stay if the match is cancelled or fill the spots with new players and move on would already solve any problems that qp ever had with this for the start.
Are they going with this wider group as a result of the decline of OW2 and the lack of players? Just an observation/question with no basis…seems to make sense though. Not sure what actual player counts are looking like these days.
Personally I’ve had my game crash multiple times and I’ve received a ban, I wish they added a time out system so that I would get that 1:30 mins to restart my pc and rejoin
Got banned for the whole season, first time in six years. They can ban you but they don’t have a system in place where they can see if it’s accidental or not. Imagine paying all this money for skins and you can’t play the game 🤦🏾♂️
@@jskee2002 It would be so easy to do this though. When you actively leave you have to hit confirm. They could just punish people who confirm. Yeah, you can get around it by unplugging your internet or whatever but most people are too lazy to go to that much trouble.

Yes that's exactly what it is. You can duo, trio or 5 stack. They remove 4 stack because solos would be needed in that case. So teams in wide groups will be a duo+trio or a 5 stack.
Leaver penalties in qp is so dumb im tired of getting lobbies with people who throw or just sit afk, sometimes you even get matched up with T500 mecy pocketed ash mains and it just ruins the game because you have to sit there in spawn for 8 minutes or walk out and die on repeat
mighty bold of them to increase "leaver" penalties when I'm positive that their servers are absolute horseshit and can't reliably handle 10 connections at a time. roughly 40-50% of COMP games have disconnections now.
I now do a prayer and a celebration whenever a game is finished and has stayed 5v5 from start to finish. and no, it's not people's connection problems. "people" never had this many connection problems so consistently in ow1.
unless all ISPs in the entire European region crumbled the day they released ow2, it's on blizzard.
also their punishment for endorsement level 0 is a punishment for the entire team. muting a player and not letting them RECEIVE any communications are two very different things. if you're excommunicating player you might as well not let them play comp. every game where a player does not join (even if only to listen) comms there's a massive problem for this TEAM BASED game. I cannot believe that they think this is a good idea. it will not only hurt comms overall but will tilt the player and cause them to perform worse for that as well. just don't match me with them then; why do I get punished for someone you put on my team?
Think you make a huge exaggeration but even so, disconnects and crashes with this game are a real issue.
Servers are shit, yet we have same server's in USA where I rarely see people dc'ing unless it's their internet. Maybe it's just fiber backbones in Europe.

Leaver penalty was already a joke but now it's even more ridiculous. Leave 2 matches and you're banned? And the game doesn't distinguish between crashes, disconnects and people who quit because they don't like a map/don't like that they lost a point. And this is quickplay, a casual mode. And it is a casual mode no matter what the devs say. They balance to casuals now so it's obvious they consider it a casual game. Game crashes are the game's fault.
All you're going to do with banning people who leave qp is locking people into games they don't want to be in. So what will they do instead? They'll just afk and throw. And yeah you can report but let's face it they won't get banned. The game crashing usually is not from the game it's your install or hardware causing the crash. I have over 1k hours on my account and probably had 20 crashes in that entire time. If you're crashing that much it is your rig. Also if you're dc'ing that much why are you trying to play an online game? You're bringing up things that are on the player for being irresponsible.
What if its unexpected? You are just assuming everyone has technical knowledge and knows how to make sure that their pc or console is running perfectly. It has been QP for reason and it should stay like old QP no matter what anyone says.

This wide range thing is going to suck for people trying to group up with massive skill differences. It's already bad as it is now.
But it wasn’t an option before, so it doesn’t detract from the game. I can’t play at all with lower ranked friends right now.
It's a system you have to opt into. If you aren't grouped with people outside your skill range, you aren't going to play against these groups.
@@blaynegreiner9365 stacks are considered wide range even if you're all the same rank. I'm just going to solo queue and play with friends in QP.

sadly i left overwatch 2 again season 9 and havnt been back since hanzo got nerfed after i switched to him cause tracer wasnt viable anymore and season 10 made her less viable she didnt need a pulse bomb nerf it was hard enough to hit accuratly 😤
If they’re gonna have drastic quickplay bans they need to do something about matchmaking. My friends are low ranks but we keep going up against masters/grandmasters . They can’t enjoy the game at all when they are getting rolled and dying 10+ times every game. 😭
then play ranked. Quickplay is the casual game mode where you are supposed to find "quick matches"
@@johnsonspark171 I think you'll find that the Quickplay tab specifically says "jump into a game against other players OF YOUR SKILL LEVEL" so it's not unreasonable to assume the game would do that.

Comp is fucking unbearable to play as is. Good luck ranking up if you're solo queued. I was in a match last night that had a grandmaster vs. bronze player new to the game, so it already feels like this is the norm.

He put his twitch after the match and I talked to him,he was TOP 500 on roles in OW1 which would translate to at least masters today after not playing for a while. Even without the aim this guy had the game sense to direct his team while I had other solo q silvers, you have to be better than top 500 to rank up
Can't you go back to a competitive game you left for whatever reason, say internet trouble? I'm guessing they don't count when you go back, but maybe they could extend the time you can go back. I think it's a minute or so you're allowed to go back.
Role based matchmaking may prevent the absurd "play as a duo and get curb-stomped by organized 4-5 stacks" phenomenon.
Lower elo team members getting basically no SR for wins should kill boosting almost entirely, removing the incentive for a lot of these smurfs.
The enhanced avoid system will probably also prevent much anguish. Tentatively optimistic.

For me it’s the Comp points. I’ve heard from others it’s the style of the game tho (defending and attacking in one game) as well as people take the game more seriously compared to quick play

@bradmiles1984 It shouldn't matter if you leave or not because its QP. It's meant to be a quick in and out game mode not a competitive mode that forces you to stay and play or else, you can't play anymore for a good chunk of time. This isn't a good change and more people will leave the game because of this.

A lot of changes regarding disruptive behavior and reporting, but no news about combatting cheaters? At least half my comp games lately have had aimbotters and wallers in them. I’ve never ran into that many before. Report them every time with proof, and I never get the noti that they were banned lol.

I understand leaver penalties for Competitive matches. Why the f**k does Blizzard (or anyone, for that matter) care how many Unranked matches people leave? I just don't get the obsession with this. Unranked is like the "training ground but with live players" mode. Who gives a crap about leavers there?
I think many people don't view it the same way. Arcade is the actual training ground with live players.
Btw they care more about unranked because the majority of their playerbase is on there unfortunately, and they want those cash cows 🤑🤑
i don't mind the punishments, as long as there is a way to tell how quickly you left the game. Backfill towards the end isn't fun. If it was in the first minute or so, it should be fine.
@@regarrzo The problem with this is that it the arcade modes don't really represent the core makeup of comp matches. They have goofy rules or other gimmicks...which are fun...but they don't give players a place to practice in role queue teams on proper maps.
The thing even more ridiculous is that these bans also exist for mystery heroes, a literal troll mode. Don't like that you have no tank but the other team has 3 torbs? Suck it up!

As with most things Overwatch, they tout something as better and it's actually worse. I can no longer play in my 4 stack in comp so this has ruined the game for me. We are all gold to play and will never be GM so we're not boosting: we haven't moved rank all season. We just want to play together. But because there are 4 of us and in a 4 stack the group restrictions are now MUCH tighter for a 4 stack, we are screwed. Does Blizzard even think about these things before they implement them?

Holy cow I feel like y’all aren’t paying attention. Stylosa read this and you can even check it yourself. But Wide queue is a NEW queue option. And I quote from the defense matrix blog “With this new queue option comes some tradeoffs.-“ It looks like the devs are adding a separate queue much like we have “open queue” and “role queue”. I wanted to scroll through the comments and see people’s thoughts on this because THIS is actually a cool idea! A whole separate queue for wide stacks. So at worst a team would consist of one 3 stack and one 2 stack. Even Stylosa found it interesting on that section because he was paying attention. We all know he isn’t afraid to criticize blizzard and rip them a new one. Seeing everyone going “they ruined rank even more now. solo queue is beyond saving-“ actually like this system is nuking role and open queue is ridiculous! To even Saying Stylosa is washed or whatever for being cautiously optimistic about something for once because he paid attention to the blog and everyone else thought they said they are nuking it. Yeah yeah- let’s hate everything Overwatch does. But if you’re going to find even more ways to dislike the game (and there are plenty of ways to do that) at least base it off of correct information.
I will say this though- if season 10 comes out and they do nuke the previous queues- you can say blizzard lied! A new way to hate the game. Because that would be accurate. The blog said it will be a separate queue and if they don’t do it then they lied to us again. So save your “they made comp worse” until after season 10 drops so we can see if they manage to mess this up too.
