I'd probably spend more money on the game if I could grab a skin for like 5-10$, I'd just be prone to spend in smaller amounts..Would never put 20+ into one though??!
I know especially with the games coming out of the smaller studios costing like 30 bucks. That's less than the bundles that Blizzard is trying to sell. Peak corporate greed.
Well two things you have to consider. "Base" game is free and you're supporting it's continued development. You don't have to buy the skins but if you want to support the game then why not? Look at games like Call of Duty and Destiny before major micro transactions the base games were what $59.99 then a $14.99 DLC for call of duty x 4 so $120 yearly? Then Destiny was also $59.99 base game + $40 - $80 expansions per year? If you bought Call of duty over even just 5 years w/ all DLC you'd spend $600 lets say from 2009,2010,2011,2012,2013 But spending $20 here and there on skins over 5 years is too much? Not to mention those prior prices are nearly 15 years ago and money isn't quite worth as much as it was even back then. I'm not saying the prices are "good" in fact i dislike spending that much for 1 skin, but I have bought skins and most battlepasses and probably spent a total of $130 so far over the whole of overwatch 2, but i'm also very set on the skins that i have now and don't see my self spending much more down the road or as often. You can also stick with Battlepass which arguably gives like 3-8 whatever skins and a now a mythic skin of your choice for $10? + You get the 600 coins easier so it's really only costing you $4.00 per season which is $24/year to buy all 6 seasons each year if you actually play the game. As you'll earn 3600 coins for free and have to fork of enough for 2400 coins. You could have also bought the $50 bundle for 7500 coins so you could do 3 years of battlepass for $50.
struggling? wow and to think it only took abandoning the original game, disregarding the entire playerbase that stuck with the game through content draught, adding terrible monetization, awful battlepasses full of filler, breaking the MAIN promise of the sequel, completely abandoning the lore, locking new heroes behind paywall, betraying the two main draws of the game, terrible servers that somehow can't maintain 10 connections for the duration of a single goddamn game, and insultingly bad incentives... you know it's really hard to screw up a smash hit this big this badly, but by god they did it very competently.
Firing the charismatic leader, cancelling the new game mode, lying to players about it, firing half the staff, hiring some new people back then firing 30% more people, charging for an expansion that was free while knowing pve would be cancelled, introducing FOMO to skin aquisition, eliminating the old balance team, eliminating the head of lore, downgrading the quality of new skins, introducing increasingly fewer customizations on "mythic skins", selling 75% recolors of old or existing skins, introducing 3 new immortalities to the game, not releasing hero cinematics for new heros anymore, removing the ability to unlock cosmetics from the old game we already paid for, adding a hero w/ voicelines are exclusively designed to be annoying, eliminating the entire role of off-tank, first artificially decreasing your rank, adding rank decay, removing rank decay, then artificially inflating your rank, only to completely reset your rank...
overwatch was never good. It was a scam from the start. The whole style of the game was used to manipulate angry league of legends veterans. It came out in 2016 at a time, when people where fed up with league of legends environment, lack of care from the devs and trash game. The cinematics where colorful and friendly LOOKING. TO make people think it was different than league. and it worked. Until you realized that overtrash was now full of brutal raceiist soy infused league players. It was always a scam
I guess one of the weird effects of free-to-play is, when you pay actual money for a game your kind of incentivized to actually play it enough to learn it. Free to play is probably much easier to drop if it doesn't immediately tick for you... and a lot of gamers don't have as much patience to learn a new game or control scheme as they think they do...
I agree but also want to add in that I don’t think lack of patience is main driver, i think it’s the over saturation of games available and our time to “get into a new game” shrinks by default. What makes F2P awesome is the ability to try a game before committing more money into it, the bad thing about it is that it is VERY easy to drop the game. Far easier to drop it than pick it up, especially if you truly did F2P. One of the core issues with the old OW2 model is that the price point was set STUPIDLY high. If a F2P player does become invested in a certain character, most likely they will buy skins for them, as long as they are good, but even that is not 100% true. I was an original Ana Main when I started playing (before her kit got slightly gutted) and I almost have every single Ana Skin available to me. To me, she is one with 50% REALLY good skins (including a mythic), 20% Great skins, the rest are crap. But i love Ana and her story so much, that I am dedicated to getting every skin of hers. So F2P does allow people to invest where they want to invest. What Overwatch ALMOST did was start to go into Pay to Win with locking heroes, but thankfully that’s done with. If they keep making changes, this game will recover…but…OW MUST continue to not only maintain the current game (again, this is a HIGHLY unique game) AND THEY MUST come up with ways to entice us to stay. This means cutting ANY predatory purchasing methods and make sure what they produce is not lazy…for example…STOP SELLING RECOLORED SKINS FOR THE SAME PRICE AS THE OG SKIN. I am not saying recoloring skins is a stupid idea, sometimes the recolor changes the essence of the Skin, therefore it actually transform the Hero into something different. Ex) Ana’s Snow Owl vs Night Owl. The Snow Owl is not the “common” Owl representation we typically see. Changing the colors on the Snow owl to night owl, gives her an actually different vibe that CAN be better to have on night maps? Truly allow players to be able to spend their money how THEY want to, not how the game/Game developers want us to play.
1. Horrible matchmaker. 2. Way overpriced skins. 3. Heroes locked behind pay wall. 4. No sense of progression. 5. New 5v5 model is too fast and "death matchy" for me. That's my top 5.
I really don't get why people have an issue with #3. It's only for 1 season and new heroes typically aren't even available in comp until they've been nerfed into oblivion. Like I just can't remember I time where not having access to a new hero was seriously an issue in comp. Plus Blizzard needs to make money somehow
@@jacobj3491 Not everybody has time to grind for two weeks to unlock the hero for free. Also not being able to play a new hero which is a major draw/advertisement for the game for many people just feels awful. You asking me to wait for a whole season to try it out or pay? No thanks. I'll move to game that respects me as a player. They screaming out there is no player retention and they do everything possible to push people away. Fuck around and find out I guess. Ah and I already paid for the game few years ago and they took it away from me.
It's 1 & 5 for me. OW doesn't function as deathmatch because what counts is winning a team fight and the objective. If they put team deathmatch into the comp rotation, it would satisfy their new audience (dps players who just want to shoot people and not think about anything else). Skins I have no interest in anymore. I used to get excited in OW1 for every holiday/event to see what the new skins were, but now I have absolutely no clue when new ones come out, and if I can even get them because they might be for legacy credits, or premium currency, and if they're for premium currency, they may or may not be in the shop at that given time lol

to jasons point about missing out on newcomers, what pushed me over the edge into buying OW1 was the design of reaper, having someone throw away their shotguns when empty for new ones rather then reloading, at the time seemed so badass to me, i def wouldnt of stuck around if i couldnt play repear when i first loaded up the game
I'm still a firm believer that non-gun skins in a fps is very weird to charge a lot for. 95% of the time you won't be seeing it. So why would I pay $20 for a skin that I may see for maybe a minute per match?
you know whats dumber? Jade weapons, like I would MUCH rather be able yo use any skin’s weapon design on other skins. Ofc the requirement being you must own them but you should be able to mix and match weapons with other skins if you want. Easy idea. There be alot of skins that are doodoo but i like the weapon design.

Clearly. You’re deaf, otherwise you wouldn’t ignore or kinda forget that they will make all the heroes in the previous seasons and the new ones coming this year IMMEDIATELY *free* for everyone as it is said in the video and all other videos of Stylosa going over all of this and more to death. not only that but the whole idea of "heroes are the main draw of our game, so we're going to lock them behind paywalls" is so idiotic it can't be described as shooting yourself in the foot. it's closer to shooting yourself in the face, which is what they did, and wow I can't believe OW2 is "struggling".
@@hongomybongo9684 that's called good business. Skins = $$$$. Blizzard isn't a charity, they are in the business of making money and delivering returns to their shareholders. I know that's a completely wild concept for woke Zoomers to understand though
Ridiculously expensive shop skins. Recoloured shop exclusive skins. Battle pass filled with trash like souvenirs. No premium currency earned from battle pass. Occasional free event skins have been awful. Seasons that don't have a new character aren't very exciting to play. I wonder why people aren't spending money on this game. 🤔 Back in OW1 I was excited to play the event to grind loot boxes for the event skin drops. Now, I don't even touch the event games more than once. The rewards amount to just battle pass points, some sprays, and MAYBE 1 mediocre skin for a hero you dont play. Its just too much filler to create the illusion of value.

One of the biggest mistakes Overwatch 2 made was the new player experience. It does nothing but push new players away. How did the vast majority of players get into OW? They probably saw a gameplay clip, or a cinematic, and said "THAT character looks cool, I wanna play them" Now imagine logging in for the first time, just to be told you have to play for multiple hours before you're even allowed to start playing them 150 Games A new player has to complete 150 individual games in order to unlock the base roster What a joke in a game about counter switching, a game about fulfilling a hero fantasy
I got into OW because Mercy and Rein looked fun to me. I wanted to help my team and be a savior. Now not only is the helpful tank role basically dead but mercy is phased out by more damage oriented supports that also have more utility. Making fan favorite characters useless was also bad decision.
Well, as a 5k+ hours OW1 player who was GM every role I have like 200 hours in OW2, not because of PvE cancellation, not because of bad monetization but simply because 5v5 is not fun. 6v6 (when actively balanced and not abandoned for 3 years) is just a more fun experince and also better to balance, because not as many counterswaps exist when a team has 2 tanks. "But 2x Shield!!!" Yes 2x Shield sucked, but it wasnt a 6v6 issue, it was a balance issue which could be avoided by reworking Orisa (which they did) or lowering AoE Heals to reduce sustain or reducing shields. I just want them to try 6v6 again and give it the care it deserves, then i will play actively again and even spent money on the game that used to be my favourite before OW2
Overwatch 1 - Stick and carrots with carrots being free characters and relatively easy to get skins. Overwatch 2 - Just a stick and another stick tied at the end. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I raise you: Overwatch 2 - A stick with a string at the end and another and another and another and another and another and another and another and another... By which they both lead their cash cows along and beat what is left of the game.
just to give you more proof of the state of OW2: I played the hell out of OW1 (like most of us) so OW2 was a no-brainer. I played OW1 on Xbox and since then I've switched to PC so I downloaded OW2 on PC, ported by Xbox data over to PC, which broke everything. As of the game's release in 2022, I still cannot log into OW2 and its been roughly 17-18 months. I opened a support ticket for this issue, got an acknowledgement that there's an issue with Xbox-to-PC porting and they're working on a fix. Then about 12 months later, they closed the ticket saying they're still working on it but don't have an ETA on a solution. at that point, I had already given up waiting. I just cant believe they let this issue go on for this long and is still an issue as far as I know.
So when Jason schreier said overwatch 2 took twice as long to make… like how??? Overwatch 2 is nothing but reused assets from overwatch 1 and they even took stuff away so we had less.
They spent most of the time trying to re balance the game from 6v6 to 5v5. Which is why i was telling people that the time and resources should have went to PvE and kept 6v6.
@@born2run121 Even perfectly balanced 5v5 is infinetly worse than 6v6, it has less depth, teamplay and strategy, turned OW from a great game to a mindless Deathmatch. Sad to see, hope they try 6v6 again in the near future.

Dead Island, Guitar Hero, a bunch of Konami's properties like Silent Hill, Castlevania and even Metal Gear, Prince of Persia, Tribes, Duke Nukem, Sacred, F.E.A.R., Metroid, the Unreal series (Damn you Fortnite!) to name a few. A lot of Overwatch problems aren't really "Overwatch problems" but problems that stem from ABK themselves. Basically, they have been mismanaging most of their titles for awhile now.
time and time again we see that ow2s best game play decisions are them just reverting it back to ow1, why 6v6 isnt the main format is still beyond me 5v5 accomplished nothing beneficial and ow2 delivered on 0 promises
6v6 needs to just come back at this point... Tank mains are just meant to suffer in 5v5 and personally I just am done with it. The whole game needs rebalanced and the changes they are making now are just bafflingly stupid to the point of physically stressing me out when I try to get into a comp match... I'm ready to just be done with fps games in general at this point.

Saying they were locked is a bit of a stretch. More like "soft locked". You either needed to get to like lvl 45 in the bp to get the hero for free or if u missed that season than you do a few simple challenges in the PRACTICE RANGE to unlock them for FREE. My cousin doesn't even have very many hrs in the game and it took him MINUTES to unlock mauga this season cuz he didn't play much last season.

22:29 It seems like they knew it would impact comp integrity and valued the profit more. It should be noted that, arguably, the primary reason devs repeated rhetoric about swapping not being necessary was to gaslight us into accepting that pay/timewalled heroes fit well into balance. Also I loath Push mode.
there were a few reason I stopped playing back in season 2 and push was definitely right up there on my list, but I'm also one of those very few players who seemed really enjoy 2CP .
I stopped coming back to the game when the heroes were being locked behind unlock requirements I don't want to grind to unlock heroes and I knew when they tried this it would damage the game.. I used to massively be into Overwatch, what a shame.
Good question, as we got less heroes, maps and events than we could get in one year of OW1 (not counting the 3 years of nothing where they were supposedly working on a PVE mode that never existed in the first place 🥲)
Preface: I've never paid for the heroes, I've always earned them by playing because I play too much, so none of what follows applies to me I'm all for free heroes (like it used to be), but they're still selling access to the new heroes in the Shop... I understand not refunding people for buying the battle pass for the new heroes, because the battle pass contains more than just the hero, but like... They should at least add X amount of Overwatch Coins into player accounts that spent cash for Coins in order to buy the heroes in the Shop. That way Blizzard doesn't spend even more money, and that way players won't feel like they're being scammed. But the reality is that players are being scammed because the heroes are still being sold for another 2.5 weeks before they'll just be free to everyone... FeelsWeirdMan
Great point. They need to allow us to purchase any season. Selecting and swapping between the ones we own to level them up. Sell all the cosmetics separately, keep pumping out content, and giving us more opportunities to earn premium currency. People will stick around and play. Characters, skins, maps, modes.
So it will be more convoluted to get Mythic skins AND still no way to earn by simply playing, its all BUY OR DONT. Buy battlepass, unlock enough currency, trade for skin; cant get recent skin from last 3 battlepasses instead you wait 3 more seasons before you can buy them what abt OLD battlepasses you didnt complete but fully paid for? "start over, spend more, play more, fomo"
Truly wish they would make old bps available, I missed loads of them and would be one of the, I'm assuming, many people who would also be interested in picking some up. Clearly, they don't think this is worthwhile for whatever reason but to me it seems like a missed opportunity for bp skins to be locked away after their respective season is over. Also, to answer your question, I don't really get too excited about a new map unless it's specifically a type of aesthetic I'd enjoy or if it's a way of giving us more overwatch lore!
It's wild that people still think Bobby Kotick was the only real villain. In actual fact Blizzard with their stubbornness got us into this situation now. We had a lack of content for many years in OW1, and then in OW2 the devs still to this day are trying to fix issues that should have been addressed years ago. Blizz still think they have a "superstar" status in the gaming industry, but that cannot continue at all.
I mean I would not be surprised if it was not making money. You can have 1 million players. That does not mean 1 million players are spending money in the game. They tried their anti-consumer friendly methods to see if that experiment would work. Now they are rolling it back making them look like they are saints. When the secret to make people spend money in games…is to just be consumer friendly and people will come. Its amazing how corps think they need to be anti-consumer in hopes it’ll make them $$$. When if you just have fair monetization people will pay.
leaving newest mythics out of the shop for 2 seasons is to maintain a bit of that exclusivity for a bit as a way for people to say "Hey i was there i played through that season and got the skin." You wouldnt think this means as much to people as it does but as a Destiny PvP player, people like us love having exclusive top tier rewards that many people dont have at least for a little bit
It would be cool for them to just have battle passes available without time limits. However, I do think that'll pass skins and when you got them and if you have them, they are a nice indication and snapshot of your time with the game. It's like a time capsule of what battle passes and what times you were playing the game and I kind of enjoy that aspect honestly.
That said, I wouldn't mind if they reintroduced old passes. They could even do it in the middle of a current season or have a return of an old season at the start of a new one as some kind of secondary battle pass. I'm not saying I need all of the battle pass skins cuz I really don't, but it could be interesting.
Actually to add to my original comments... They could have the battle passes cycle back in, however, could still have the free challenges that unlock certain skin so you could still have certain skins attached to certain free events so you still have this kind of snapshot of events you were there for and sort of have a scrapbook of memories through the skins from certain special events. That might be a cool idea. So the battle pass skins wouldn't have to feel exclusive. You could still be there for cool exclusive free skins and have a nice little scrapbook of those
the biggest problem with OW2 currntly is that theyre trying to fix mistakes that basically removed that initial excitement for the game. Theyre trying to fix monetization a little but it's too late because all of the OW excitement is gone
People seem to forget that skins are mostly for other people to appreciate, you can’t even see your own character while playing besides your hands/weapon.
they could've made the game buy to play, reintroduced lootboxes and averted all this.. oh what i'd give to see jeff's reaction to ow2's current state..
jeff is half the reason the game is in the state it is today lol, besides buy to play would have killed the game instantly. They dont have pull like cod does
The buy to play model ran out of funding. That's why the content ran dry after they made the loot boxes so generous that no one had to buy them to get all the skins anymore. The only way loot boxes would have made them any money if implemented as they were in Overwatch 1 would be to take out what made them generous. Then, players are left with gambling for skins they don't want, which is way worse than an overpriced shop. Couple that with getting the game banned in various European countries and it is a recipe for disaster.
I feel like player retention is a really hard thing to incentivize. It's all about having additional content that is regularly updated. Balance changes don't really count. Also having a clear-cut introduction that lets you experiment but holds your hand along the way is great to introduce people to the game. Love the hero mastery courses but they really need to be easier to find for new players.
Soe was removed from Overwatch, but at least she has a better job now. There was a video where she recently talked about the upcoming game Dune. She now has a job that pays her for what she is truly capable of, and her higher-ups give her respect. There's always a light at the end of the tunnel.
blizzard has never cared about their fans, they care 20x more about attracting new players that just bounce between games and it seems like people who have been playing since day 1 constantly get punished especially in ranked rn
Yes dear people replying to this comment.. That also would include old broken abilities, and it still wouldn't matter because some of us would love to see OW1 come back even if it's in the most busted form. They have so many core changes to the game that new players can’t keep up. They don’t even have a decent game Tutorial. 5v5 is simply too punishing and steam rolling for anyone to actually enjoy. You cannot casually play OW2,
5v5 overall just is less casual People say "You have more Impact" OK? SO DO MY TEAMMATES SO A BAD ONE RESULTS IN A LOSS FASTER. Overall just horrible for the game.
5v5 is absurdly stupid. If your tank sucks or just don't want to win or leave, well it's over. You just can't recover from this because it's the only one tank you have in your team. In OW1 the second tank could still make a difference, it was hard but it was possible. Now it's just the team with the good tank that wins. And on top of that, this puts so much pressure on tanks shoulders that playing this role all alone just feel awful and miserable...
This is what happens when you create an echo chamber in your dev office and pretend like you never do anything wrong, the game is super-duper awesome, and anyone not happy with the game must be wrong. They've driven of a huge chunk of Overwatch fans that would have paid 60-70 dollars and continued money beyond for a great sequel. Instead, if you cater to the Free 2 Play Fortnite crowd that never cared about OW to begin with, you lower your quality and make the game for people who will be gone as soon as they find another free game to play. No investment, no retention. All they do is chant the mantra "we listen to your feedback, we listen to your feedback," while obviously not listening to feedback. Most negative reviewed game ever on Steam and they just waved it off like those reviews didn't matter. The cognitive dissonance at Overwatch will be it's downfall.. maybe not soon, but there won't be an Overwatch 3.

Loved the vid. Great insight and analysis. By the way, I'm one of those weirdos that like the maps. I look forward to the maps. It's like a puzzle with the discovery of new strategies. And the art! Bravo to the artists, I'm always blown away. It doesn't feel like Blizzard held up to their promise of a map every other season opposite the heroes though. It's almost like they wanted to release unfinished maps, so they came up with Hero Mastery and Gauntlet. I like heroes over maps, but maps are a very close second!
No 6v6 playlist, no interest in playing the game. These devs are actively ignoring a huge portion of the existing and former player base. They don’t deserve a single fan after everything uncovered related to Overwatch 2.
They have never since OW2 release talked about 6v6 I dont get why, its the better format, its how the game felt the best and is meant to be played, are they scared people would like it more than 5v5, why? That should be a good thing if it happens, just means you get more players. Not our fault they left it on a shit meta with no content for 3 years and decided "Nobody plays Tank" YEAH OF COURSE CC AND SHIELDS WERE OVERTUNED, but nobody asked for 5v5. They have to go back.
I played overwatch for 10 hours last year. I didn’t know what was happening or what characters did. I was being yelled at in a casual match. I said I didn’t how to play I’m trying to learn. He said I sucked and it’s my fault we lost and I never played again
I stopped buying battle passes because I never played enough to earn the mythic, so basically I was buying the privilege to grind the game? I'd rather save my money and play for free without the skin. I'm not going to pay $10 for the opportunity to potentially "earn" a skin; I already have a job. So now I play for free, as much or as little as my enjoyment of the game warrants. I miss out on some cool mythics, but I wasn't getting those anyway because I was basically never playing enough to earn them. It was a bad monetization scheme, and the battle pass didn't represent sufficient value to be worth it. You had to both buy AND grind for there to be any value at all.
Hey, I like this channel. I just started watching you and I think it's super cool that you are fair with criticizing the mistakes of Overwatch 2, but you still clearly have so much fun with the franchise and I'm here for it.
Heh... Helldivers 2 came out swinging with incredibly generous monetization and suddenly everyone was "already working on changes to their monetization and generosity" apparently.
I love helldivers but why are you saying that? They have PREMIUM battlepasses with gameplay advantages, realased buggy and glitchy, STILL is incredibly buggy and glitchy, game breaking bugs, hackers, Joel, and so more. Helldivers is your average messed up live service, but no one cares because it's funny. Stop playing favorites and let's attack the bigger picture
@@Setogayamari The are available permanently and you can get them through credits earned through the non-premium and found Super Credits. The way their Warbonds are implemented is way better than most game's battle passes.
@@Setogayamari They have premium battlepasses yes, they cost 1000 SC to unlock and they return 300sc with the SC unlocks in them. You can't buy skips and you can reasonably farm the cash currency in every single difficulty in the game by just playing the game. In fact I have been playing very casually recently I've unlocked both battlepasses already haven't spent a single dime other than the box price. There's also no FOMO, you can log out take a long ass break and come back and those battlepasses you didn't unlock will still be there waiting for you to unlock them if you don't want to spend the money. Every game has bugs and helldivers 2 is a month old and they didn't have to start failing drastically to have a reasonable monetization strategy. They just did it from the get go. I'm not playing favorites here, I genuinely think OW2 had potential and it was squandered and they had 2 years to do something about it as everyone complained and voiced their opinions and they chose to do nothing and just keep milking the whales so. They get zero sympathy from me. There are no advantages in the premium battlepasses arguably you could say the Stun Grenade maybe but realistically I have played the game 200+ hours now and I sometimes just go back to the base armor and the base Liberator because I love them and they feel good to play. It's also not a competitive PvP game. The game isn't perfect by any means, the crashes are VERY obnoxious atm but it is absolutely a more fair and reasonably monetized live service than OW2 will ever be. Just compare the prices you pay for stuff. There isn't even oddly priced currency packs, you pay 10 bucks, you get the battlepass.
@@Setogayamari Helldivers is very far from the "average messed up live service" don't get me wrong it is messed up still but Helldivers is far ahead of the competion in many aspects. Battlepass is one of them, no FOMO and you can get it for free. You can buy full armor sets in the premium store for 3-6 dollars and you can get those for free too. No one cares about the problems of the game because it is fun, rewarding, gorgeous, devs care about the players, the CEO cares about the game and the players AND it is funny on top. I have 100 hours in game and not once seen a hacker and even if you run into one just leave, you loose nothing.
Ive gotten both the premium battle passes and multiple store armours and have premium currency to spare, and I haven't spent anything on it beyond the initial 40 euro purchase price. It's very generous and you can easily get what you want by just playing the game. It really isn't comparable to most live service slop.
Honestly this season has been meh. All games lopsided and you basically expect to lose every match, the better widow, genji, and dps is always on the other team. So sad how far this game has fallen.
Sad that the holiday events were an actual event for me IRL, me and my girlfriend would hop on excited to see new skins and gamemodes, both that are free as long as you play during the event, and even so we still both bought 20$ worth of loot boxes each. Now with all this garbage, we havent touched the game in about a year and never spent a dime on it. Nice one blizzard, you managed to drain all of the fun out of your holiday events AND go under in the process.
Noone engages with the store because the cost of cosmetics are outrageous, they want a third of the cost of the original game for 1 skin. Gtfo of here .
Styl I love these long videos. I got a load of laundry done and my dishes done just from listening to this video. I also agree with your point on buying past battle passes. I don't care much for some of the mythic skins, but I would pay $10 or $15 to Support this game that I love, and to get past emotes and things that I missed. I really like name cards and I wanted a few of them but missed out.
Im pretty sure its not only the new players jumping on and off... I myself played for years but only in chunks, but OW2 just couldnt even hold me at all, because of the monetization mostly and some design choices. I may actually play again, with the battle pass changes and the hero changes.
The Heroes being "locked" are what made me quit OW2. The amount of time (aided by winning games) to be able to earn enough for a hero would have basically been a second job, needing to pour 30-40 hours a week to afford them. This was my biggest concern with the Battle Pass implementation. Even if you did bare minimum you would earn about half what you'd need for a hero, and then it would switch out for another hero, so you could miss out on the one you wanted to unlock.
I'd like it if they gave enough coin in the battle pass to buy the next one yeah. Although a "good" thing is that if you complete the battle pass for this season, you technically only need to spend 5 dollars to get the new one.
Putting enough coins in a battle pass to purchase the next one requires a large enough player base to cover that potential cost. More importantly, a higher percentage of the player base willing to spend money in the shop outside of the battlepass.
not many want to spend $20 for a skin, lower the skin prices and more people will buy them, and add lots of coin in the battlepass after doing prestige tiers.
at this point can't we just have Overwatch 1 back please? 5v5 sucks, OW2's UI sucks, No Portrait Borders, OW1 Matches were always rewarding with Coins (if you queued the recommended role), OW2 Matches give... bonus Battle Pass EXP? Yeah? no, sorry fuck that. The Battle Pass is just bad due to it not being rewarding enough, time limited and Battle Pass Ranks above 200 do not carry over to the next battle pass, in OW1 every Account Level Up was rewarded with a Lootbox for free! Oh and can I mention that YOU CANNOT EVEN CHECK YOUR CURRENT BATTLE PASS RANK ABOVE 80!? The Battle Pass being FOMO is bad (go figure) and the Matches, I have in OW2 make me hate Aaron Keller as a Game Director. I also had bad matches in OW1 but no OW1 Matches was so Bad that I wanted to see Jeff replaced.. since even if I lost in OW1, I either earned 25 Coins or a Lootbox or maybe had an Account Level Up.. Oh and another thing: Every Game Mode had Auto-Queue!!! now it's only quick play.. I wanted to say "What a Joke!", but Jokes are funny, OW2 is sad and pathetic
I hate FOMO... if I feel I won't have time to complete the battle pass... I refuse to buy it and to be honest, the battle pass is the best deal when it comes to getting skins. It's like buying a bundle that you just have to earned with a limited time.
Bro is just a hater at this point. Literally EVERY OTHER content creator in the OW scene has been positive. This video is DEADASS the ONLY one I've seen with the doomer click bait title.
@@Jose_Antonio_Lopez Because all of these changes are bare-minimum. If you play anything other than AAA - you would know how much more indie games respect your time and money while offering a lot more unique content in general. Not everybody is out to just hate on your favorite game out of all the other one's they could be hating on instead.
@@Jose_Antonio_Lopez Thats sad actually, imagine how shit something is, that when they make the bare-minimum positive change everyone claps. Is THAT bad.
They should make the skins (that are not exclusive to events) unlock-able via gameplay and challenges, and everything else can be sold and put in the battle pass. However the pricing of the skins are atrocious too, it’s just not worth my irl money for a game that doesn’t feel like it’s on my side as a consumer AND a gamer.
They also don't give an F about their casual players (obviously), they never really did. That's why the cancellation of PvE sucks even more to me. I never cared for competitive, since I'm self-aware enough that I suck at the game and anything competitive. It gives me stress due to my stress disorder. So I always played just all the casual game modes (QP, arcade, bots, custom games etc) since I know losing won't bother my teammates as much. But in OW2 was hoping they cared to include PvE… but what do we expect at this point? Only broken promises and greed from Activision-blizzard.
On the subject of maps, I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE every aspect of Busan. I die every time I see it on my loading screen. Every capture point is frustrating to play on and it feels like the map design is intentionally sabotaging my gameplay. It's the only map in the game that I actively dislike.
What blows me away is that Overwatch 2 has been out for over a year and we still don't have e features that were shown off in the trailer for the game years ago. For an example we still can't inspect our weapons and I'm pretty sure those animations were shown in the very first OW2 trailer.
It would be really awesome if this "Mythic Shop" not only let you get older skins but added some extra upgrades to the skins with less customisation. Like retroactively adding head and torso alternatives for the Hanzo and Orisa skins. That would be fantastic and help repair some sentiment about the varying levels of customisation.
Say whaaa? Losing money? No way! You're telling me that what used to be free content, and then became ridiculously overpriced paywalled FOMO was the effect of a loss of profits? Pfft - nah......oh wait.
Bad maps are usually the reason I quit a session of OW. So I am most excited about the map reworks they are top priority changes for me. Also map voting please.
@alexpaz5303 🐋 🐋 🐋 🐋 $20 dollars for a skin is not worth it, i have several times look at the shop thinking of buying a skin, but didn't when i realized: A. i wasn't going to see 90 % of the skin since I'll be in 1st person B. I won't be playing the character often because of counterpicking C. there's no doubt other stuff i can buy for the same price that will flat out provide more value to me For example instead of buying Cyber detective skin for sojurn. I bought Cod BO3 Zombies Chronicles edition on discount for the same price. And that has given me faaaar more Enjoyment then any Overwatch skin. and i have no doubt everyone will be able to find something of equal price that gives more Enjoyment
Getting another chance on season 1 would instantly remove 10 bucks from my pocket... cuz i think i main Kiriko, and there is a lot of collectibles for her
Only way I could see overwatch coming back is if they made some kind of huge change to their development mindset- Something like getting a new hero every season would probably work
I feel like one of the biggest problems with new players is that they’ll get into the game when a new hero releases, then they’re subjected to exactly what you said and by the next season are underwhelmed by no new hero so they just quit
Hot take: OW has never been balanced. Like, ever. 6v6, 5v5, Blizzard doesn't know what they are doing or they know exactly what they are doing, I don't know what is more worrying.
Half the problem was the original devs were RP wonks who had no love for the PVP game and always wanted to fart around on PVE content. If Jeff K. had his way not one, but TWO RP PVE games… to them all OW 1 was, was a money tap to go do the things they wanted. They sabotaged OWL to a large extent too. People need to stop excusing Jeff’s role in Overwatch’s failure. And Sty excusing them as wanting more perfection than Bobby is a joke.
They can look at all the data they want, but due to inflation, I'm nit picking stuff. So... DOES IT HURT TO TRY TO SELLS SKINS FOR A MUCH LOWER PRICE? I mean like dirt cheap... I buy anything for a dollar.
They arent going to make more money with their changes. So yeah, they are going to hae to work on somethin else. This is cooked in terms on being a juggernaut. It can be profitable. Ironically, making the heroes free and also drastically reducing the cost of the skins would make them more money. I guess hypebeast releases would work as expensive skins
I don't want to be forced to play within a BP season to complete the BP. It's such complete BS that they can just timegate the thing we paid for within a short amount of time. It's sooooo stupid. This is the main thing that pushes me away from BPs in the first place. So from everything I see in these changes, the only actual good thing is the heroes being taken out of the BP. Everything else is whatever. Skins are still going to be expensive and we still are being forced to play within a given amount of time to complete a BP to get the awards. This was always one out of 2 of the biggest issue with the monetization and they are still pushing it. The monetization didn't really get much better because of this. We still lose the items of the BP we don't complete, which forces us to play and builds frustration. This has always been the main issue. Being able to pick the mythic skin doesn't change anything really as it's still at the end of the timegated content. If they made all BP available permanently, they would obviously make more money. Because the moment someone finishes a BP, they can move on and buy the next one immediately after. They can't make money on content if they just remove it from the game after it's allotted time. It's just stupid business. It's like having a infinite inventory at a store for an item and they just allow people to buy the product for a given time and then pull it from store. They still have that inventory wasting away, wasting potential sales. It should be obvious what the move is. Just don't pull it the product. And the analogy isn't even the same because in a digital market place they can just leave the digital product on the shelves and it really doesn't loose space. So they have more reason to not pull BPs at all. It also removes FOMO for new players and doesn't scare them away. Without changing this, most of these monetization changes don't really matter as the crux of the matter is still in place.
I think you're slightly underestimating the importance of maps. I'm always excited when I get Kings Row, Eichenwald or Lijiang but equally I want to leave (I don't because I'm a good boy) when I see Havana, New Junk City or Colosseo. Imagine all the maps were on a King's Row level... People would be way more excited to play the game.
You are so right , there are so many maps that I don’t really like . In my opinion we need more push maps not robot and that capture the point of whatever it is . Never thought I say I miss 2cp
im just glad i wont have to play support anymore just to complete my challenges, it was always annoying. Same thing with getting 45 points from completing QP games, qp matchmater is terrible and it was just not fun.
They should probably lower the prices on the skins. Paying for a full game to just get a skin is INSANE
I'd probably spend more money on the game if I could grab a skin for like 5-10$, I'd just be prone to spend in smaller amounts..Would never put 20+ into one though??!
They did
I know especially with the games coming out of the smaller studios costing like 30 bucks.

If you bought Call of duty over even just 5 years w/ all DLC you'd spend $600 lets say from 2009,2010,2011,2012,2013
But spending $20 here and there on skins over 5 years is too much?
I guess one of the weird effects of free-to-play is, when you pay actual money for a game your kind of incentivized to actually play it enough to learn it.
Free to play is probably much easier to drop if it doesn't immediately tick for you... and a lot of gamers don't have as much patience to learn a new game or control scheme as they think they do...
its also why team mates are noticeably worse in ow2. like you said ow1 players were incentivized to learn the game and it for sure felt like it lol.

I got into OW because Mercy and Rein looked fun to me. I wanted to help my team and be a savior. Now not only is the helpful tank role basically dead but mercy is phased out by more damage oriented supports that also have more utility. Making fan favorite characters useless was also bad decision.
Not just play games, but some characters have to be unlocked with multiple WINS. LMAO, for a new player it's just... almost impossible
Well, as a 5k+ hours OW1 player who was GM every role
I have like 200 hours in OW2, not because of PvE cancellation, not because of bad monetization but simply because 5v5 is not fun.
I just want them to try 6v6 again and give it the care it deserves, then i will play actively again and even spent money on the game that used to be my favourite before OW2

just to give you more proof of the state of OW2: I played the hell out of OW1 (like most of us) so OW2 was a no-brainer.
Remember when Blizzard cared about players and making great games?
Yeah...I can't either. It's been so long I've developed old age dementia.

A documentary needs to be made about overwatch because publicly this is the most mismanaged game o have ever seen
Not even close lol That it still exists is proof it isn't nearly as mismanaged as other franchises.

If the OW 2 Team was twice as big as the first game... what are they doing?
Good question, as we got less heroes, maps and events than we could get in one year of OW1 (not counting the 3 years of nothing where they were supposedly working on a PVE mode that never existed in the first place 🥲)
Preface: I've never paid for the heroes, I've always earned them by playing because I play too much, so none of what follows applies to me
I'm all for free heroes (like it used to be), but they're still selling access to the new heroes in the Shop...
Buy battlepass, unlock enough currency, trade for skin; cant get recent skin from last 3 battlepasses instead you wait 3 more seasons before you can buy them
what abt OLD battlepasses you didnt complete but fully paid for?
When if you just have fair monetization people will pay.
leaving newest mythics out of the shop for 2 seasons is to maintain a bit of that exclusivity for a bit as a way for people to say "Hey i was there i played through that season and got the skin."
You wouldnt think this means as much to people as it does but as a Destiny PvP player, people like us love having exclusive top tier rewards that many people dont have at least for a little bit
I won't be satisfied until you can earn 1,000 credits in the battle pass and until the skins are 1,200 credits at maximum, preferably 1,000
You do earn over 1000 of the non premium OW 'credits' in the battle pass. Up to 1500 with paying for it. Did you mean to say the premium OW 'coins'?
They kind of broke OW by making too much currencies... Credits, coins, owl coins, event tickets, competitive points 1, competitive coins 2.
100 Million players?...then why do i see the same people in every game?.
People seem to forget that skins are mostly for other people to appreciate, you can’t even see your own character while playing besides your hands/weapon.
they could've made the game buy to play, reintroduced lootboxes and averted all this.. oh what i'd give to see jeff's reaction to ow2's current state..
Jeff is responsible for a lot of the problems historically.
jeff is half the reason the game is in the state it is today lol, besides buy to play would have killed the game instantly.

As a ex-ow1 and ow2 player turned helldiver...........FK Blizzard!!!!
not many want to spend $20 for a skin, lower the skin prices and more people will buy them, and add lots of coin in the battlepass after doing prestige tiers.
at this point can't we just have Overwatch 1 back please?
The tone shift compared to helldivers content 😂💀💀💀
Bro is just a hater at this point. Literally EVERY OTHER content creator in the OW scene has been positive. This video is DEADASS the ONLY one I've seen with the doomer click bait title.
He is being realistic and not blindly optimistic. Cope with that as you will. @@Jose_Antonio_Lopez
@@Jose_Antonio_Lopez looking at your comment history it seems more like you are just a hardcore glazer for blizzard than sty being a hater
I hate push maps 10000000x more than busan in every way
What blows me away is that Overwatch 2 has been out for over a year and we still don't have e features that were shown off in the trailer for the game years ago.
Of course Overwatch would be losing money, who'd want to spend money on games they don't have faith in and the content is overpriced
It’s not ur just poor
@@alexpaz5303It's not what? If you don't have an answer, it's because you're just poor of intellect and just talk without point or meaning.

$20 dollars for a skin is not worth it, i have several times look at the shop thinking of buying a skin, but didn't when i realized:
A. i wasn't going to see 90 % of the skin since I'll be in 1st person
B. I won't be playing the character often because of counterpicking
C. there's no doubt other stuff i can buy for the same price that will flat out provide more value to me
For example instead of buying Cyber detective skin for sojurn. I bought Cod BO3 Zombies Chronicles edition on discount for the same price. And that has given me faaaar more Enjoyment then any Overwatch skin. and i have no doubt everyone will be able to find something of equal price that gives more Enjoyment
Getting another chance on season 1 would instantly remove 10 bucks from my pocket... cuz i think i main Kiriko, and there is a lot of collectibles for her
WHAT A LIE, there ISN'T 100 Million players 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Only way I could see overwatch coming back is if they made some kind of huge change to their development mindset-
Something like getting a new hero every season would probably work
I feel like one of the biggest problems with new players is that they’ll get into the game when a new hero releases, then they’re subjected to exactly what you said and by the next season are underwhelmed by no new hero so they just quit
Hot take: OW has never been balanced. Like, ever. 6v6, 5v5, Blizzard doesn't know what they are doing or they know exactly what they are doing, I don't know what is more worrying.
OW1 had many moments of balance. OW2 has never been balanced at all.
Imagine a world where Overwatch 2 never happened and everyone was still happily playing the OG. I wish I was on that timeline.
