hard to choose since both of them are great
Doomfist looks so cartoonish and having a face of a child and angry child.
Little question why bastioni isn't in the game? They took him out of It or we Will see him After some time?

Most of the OW2 animations feel like the beginning of a 90’s sitcom where each character is caught off guard and smiles for the camera before their name is shown.
Friends parody😂
makes a little bit of sense, considering these animations are also the default potg animations
My favorite animation is Moira. In Overwatch 1, she is a mature scientist who is fascinated with her new discovery. Her Overwatch 2 animation is her slowly slipping into madness.
I disagree. I think the new animation is exemplifying her mastery over her technology that she simply didn’t have in O1
i like the 1 more
Her ov2 animation makes me think that she can't mix the 2 energy cause it is too unstable and made a whole rework from that observation. 😀 i would type it but it's too long. If u wanna know then i will
@@minhduongnguyen3671 Moira can mix the two energies, she do it during her ultimate, why do you think it's called "coalescence"?
@@Stefan0R8 yeah.. thats why her ult can heal people while doing damage and why it has the yellow mixed with the black and purple too
They killed it with Hammond's new animation and I love that they gave him tank commander style goggles.
His new animation is my favorite ngl
It’s WAY too long
@@darkshat3077 too long? brother you have to wait 20 seconds before you can even do anything, youre literally just staring at the screen meaning it doesn't hinder you at all and only provides something to look at every now and then.
@@trashcan7140 yeah, in the beginning of the fucking game 💀
@@darkshat3077So, yeah, what's the problem lol
Nothing can beat junkrats old animation where he just stares off and contemplates everything for a few seconds
For real, as much as I love his new animation, the old one where he just dissociates for a few seconds and questions everything around him is just too iconic to me.
@@MartinaMcKenzie313 "Why am I on the run again? Ooooh right...the explosions.....ha."
if you wait long enough on the select screen He does still do that!
@@rooby5653 fuck yeah
Yah then he looks directly Into the camera and smiles, always made me feel uncomfortable, I loved it.
Two things I want back, Dva’s finger gun and tracer blowing her hair out the way
same
And Winston fixing his glasses
And mccrees(cassidy) fast spinning gun aswell, ov2 is alot slower than ov1, if they had that aswell as the new animation for him in ov2 would be a good animation. Dvas would be good if she pretend to shoot her gun and make the bang sound would be nice
new dva is better but tracer’s ..yeah
I really like the new Dva one but the old one I’ll really miss a lot
I really like OW1 Dva intro compared to the OW2 version. There's just so much more sass and personality in that one. I get that the OW2 cast are older than what they were in OW1, so naturally Dva would have matured a little, but... She just summons her mech and stands there... There's no personality, no sass, no Dva being, well, a diva.
i know this is a months old comment but she winks at the camera in her OW2 intro
I also know this is a months old comment, but I want to add that she’s also got a cheeky little smirk in the new version. She’s still got personality, it’s just more subtle.
I too know this is a many months old comment, but I think the OW2 one fits her character more and I think its animation is a lot better.
In my humble opinion OW2 animation for D.va is miles better because it shows a bit of growth and maturity while still keeping her snazz.
Like, instead of being the overly "quirky" gamer girl, she's confident in her skills but doesn't get lost in it, which, as I said, shows that she's matured a bit more.
It seems like ow1 character selection animations were more focused on the weapons of the heroes as opposed to ow2 where they are more focused on their personalities/facial expressions/body language. It's very interesting to see the differences between the two games!
and then there's symmetra who had a fucking triangle
Brigitte animation is the complete opposite of what you just said...
Genji in ow1 legit puts his weapons away haha I don't think this is a rule
@@truthpurpose huh, you're right. Thank you!
@@MalikSparrow Just my opinion and thoughts, thanks for your input. :)
I miss Sigma's old hero choice animation. Honestly it shows more of a contemplative side to him rather than a mad hatter style villain. While, yeah, he's mad, the man shows incredible intelligence and a love for the arts.
Yeah if you think about it the overwatch 1 animation shows how he isnt a bad character and is just mad but in ow2 it's like he never gone mad and is just a villain character(which he kinda isnt and has been manipulated by talon because of his insanity)
@@Indoraptor769 if only we could keep ow1 but with these abilities and screen selections. Like really blizzard y you getting rid of ow1 don't you really need a 2?
Sigma's was the only one of the animations I felt was a downgrade cuz the new one really doesn't show the best side of him like OW1 did
@@Inferno2368 personally I think the Tracer animation is also a downgrade, only because of the hair flick
it’s to show you that he’s not just a crazy musician, but a force to be reckoned with who’s gained mastery over his abilities.
In comparison they went with what I would call a more intimate animation. Many of the characters look right at your face and make small movements that say:"Hey you are picking me" and present themselves that way.
Winston: "Hey!"
Yea like ... Doomfists little growl.
It makes me feel ... things
dva's animation made me blush

As cool as some of these are, I do miss some of the old ones. Junkrat's iconic crazy stare, Sombra checking at data, Sigma conducting the melody's notes, Torb flipping up his welding mask, Mei's dusting herself off to prepare for the mission, Rein's confident hammer over the shoulder, so many small little things that I've been missing since OW1 left
Underrated comment.
But overall most of the animations show so much more character. Reinheart’s are both pretty boring, the OW1 one is better just cause you get to see his hammer and he’s the big hammer man.
I don’t miss Torb’s old animation because most of his skins don’t even have at least the equivalent of a welding mask
The weird thing is that the old characters got all these new cool animations, while Sojourn's, Kiriko's, Junker Queen's and Ramattra's ones look like they're from OW1, way shorter and simplier than the others.
(Also unpopular opinion here but i think Junkrat's laughter should have been a little bit shorter)
Yeah, every time I see the junkrat animation I feel like telling him to just calm down a bit lmao
it’s perfect to represent how crazy he is. Kinda like joker’s laugh. Crazy laughs last awhile, they’re not short and sweet. The long laugh is a perfect way to represent his chaotic personality.
I dont know about the others, but kirikos actually changes if you have the new mythic skin on and it looks a lot better in my opinion
@@donttrustme1480 doesn’t it change for Genji and JQ too?
@@LunrFoxSame for Sigma and Tracer.
I liked the Sigma selection motion in Overwatch 1. Elegant hand movements as if conducting
In OW1 he looks like a sophisticated and distinguished gentleman, collected and ready for battle.
In OW2 his intro is kinda just the stereotypical flashy platform fighter.
And that melody…
Yeah sigma in OW 1 was truly better
They kinda used the same scene as for moira. Idk why. Sigma always had a music motive so idk why they changed it
@@inebu-inebulis i still dont know the melody.
Overall I like the new ones better... but I did always love Tracer blowing her bangs out of the way. I don't even know why but I always really liked that animation.
That animation is iconic at this point
Yeah, not even a big tracer player and even I have to admit that might be the most nostalgic OW1 animation
Yeah I love watching Tracer blow. She's really good at it.
@@Kfo221 the joke is she really isnt
@@Kfo221 Dear god why would you say that
I like how you can tell that behind the scenes there has been some character development, Wrecking Ball originally looks unsure of himself in 1, while in 2 he knows exactly what he is doing. And Winston is more on edge in 1, then in 2 he's a lot more relaxed
I like Winston's a lot more in OW2. OW1 doesn't show how chummy he is.
The main difference is that it is noticeable that the current outfits wanted to make them more tactical and professional, for example Tracer, who first has a jacket like a normal person would do and then is changed for a complete synthetic suit without fabric clothing, or for example Lucio, who previously had DJ clothes and something casual, now has a metallic and more aerodynamic suit, or Mei, who initially has normal and common cold clothes, and then is changed to a specialized suit for combat in the cold.
I like the old Tracer animation better, it’s a lot more cute to me and really expresses her “quirkiness” compared to most heroes being way too uptight and serious
Idk if I'd say most heroes being way too uptight and serious lol. Most all of them feel like they have the same personality of being mostly quirky.
There are some that are different, yes, but I'd say more of them are quirky than not.
Junkrat:

Tbh most of the time, you couldn't even hear that music. I get ur point tho
I really like how Sigma looks you into the eyes now tho. He looks so... symmetrical idk. Just looks better to me. But yeah sucks for the music
@@zombor8249 I do like the new one, I just wish they incorporated the music somehow
Ikr i just started to play him more and i miss his old one better the current one feels recycled out of moiras animation
Zarya’s fit her perfectly wym
the OW2 animations are definitely longer and more involved. they work better if you select your character early rather than switch between characters before picking one
Too bad I never see these because they take too long to load on PS4 lol
overwatch 1 is such a vibe, i miss it
Reaper looks waaay more sinister in the second game along with his Hellfire Shotguns to match and he has more armor compared to the first game. Absolutely love his new design!
Although I wished they kept the original mask. The mask feels like an iconic part of Reaper's design, plus with the wearied off painting show's a bit of story to it.
@@blazingstorm9351 That's true, goes to show he conducted and went through a lot of Talon operations over the years. You could definitely tell his old armor was starting to slightly wear out. He was like, "it's about that time for an upgrade."
@@TheReaperLSX if only we could keep ow1 but with these animations. Like really blizzard? Do you really need a 2? And get rid of 1?? I think the old ow was fine as we were doing and then you are doing a ow2?? People even said it doesn't look good even and likes ow1 better or that ow2 is a flop.

Zarya talks so much about her gun that is weird to see her on character selection without it.
Going to miss Hanzo's "Scatter Arrow" thing though...
We e will always have Dragons to remind us of them.
Best ability ever
@@bluethunderbolt9631 his storm arrows still bounce once I think.
They removed that long before overwatch 2 and replaced it with storm arrows
yea, but I also hated it when enemy hanzo camp at a room, and when I enter he scatter my feet & I got ko'ed. on the other hand my scatter arrow randomly hits critically injured genji, so scatter is really a love and hate skill
I think the only ones I prefer from OW 1 are Tracer and Zarya. Apart from that, I think the rest of them represent the characters personalities more effectively.
Why Tracer? Hers is like her old one but while showing off her ability and weapons.
@@Random_entity34 It got rid of her blowing her hair up at the end which I really liked for some unknown reason. (don't ask me why, I'm not sure)
@@StreamerOfTheDecade Fair enough, I guess
Okay but sigmas was way better in ow1. The music tying in with the hand movements was soooo good
much prefer tracers in ov2, the ov1 animation was great but she just looks so much better in the second one with the gun animation not to mention her design in overwatch 2 looks better and more ironed out, I was really happy they got rid of the goofy shoes she had.
1:09
Left: Looks like a Twisted Metal character
Right: Looks like a *Punch-Out Wii* character
He dropped it lol
most of the old ones have less going on but I feel that a lot of them are better for it
I’m torn between Mei’s, the first one really shows off her “I’m just a meteorologist but I’ll try my best to fight” trait but her new one is so bubbly and cute, plus Snowball is there too
Reapers one is super good now. Especially with the Crow sound effects in the background as he appears. Super well done
Honestly with the new animations, some of them feel like these characters are welcoming us back, or showing how much they've grown over the years
And they're just happy to see the players that helped them fight the many battles they had over the years
It's crazy i still think overwatch 1 is the normal up to date one
Widow looks gorgeous! As someone who uses her Black Lily skin, I have to say she looks so elegant in her new selection animation.
Thanks for the vid. Like their redesigns themselves, their select animations are such a mixed bag. Some showcase their personality/function far better, some are more boring now, and some I like aspects of both animations and wish they had incorperated both. For example, I love Doomfist's original pose, but I love how he stares into the camera in 2. I think the best of both worlds would be if struck his original pose first, and THEN turned to face the camera.
So much more personality in these new ones, love it.
I think it’s because the developers (and the players) know the heroes personalities now. Back in OW 1, they were fresh so the hero select animations showcased their weapons and place in the OW universe. From that perspective, OW 1 animations do a really good job.
I think it's neat how the majority of OW2 select animations end up in the final pose of their OW1 select animation. A good example is Reaper.
Roadhog really takin a vape before the match
He just asmatic, lol
lmao
when you smell that zaza
Moira: "Are you breathing petrol, or something more interesting?"
@@NeoArashi Roadhog: "Want some?"
I much prefer ow 1 sigma animation, that little tune is just too perfect for his character
If only the new heroes got this much love. Kiriko kinda comes close, but Sojourn literally just puts her hand on her hip, JQ reloads a gun and puts it on her shoulder, and Ramattra clicks his staff on the ground.
For JQ specifically, I'd love if they gave her say, an animation where she crushes an Omnic's head with the magnetic force of her gauntlet, showcasing her magnetic abilities on the front. Sojourn should definitely lean more heavily into her disruptor shot and mechanical augmentations, and I'd love if Ramattra just inspected the orb a little more. Lifeweaver's is pretty good tho.
I love in ow2 it shows off a good bit of their abilities, kinda helps reinforce their characters a lil to hint at what they do and how they play like
They have nicer animations but I definitely like the older style more. The new ones look more smooth and round vs the older ones which had that semi realistic style. More definition in them.
Happy to see someone with that kind of sensibility.
The new ones are kinda uncanny, but they might just be unfamiliar. They're also a lot cleaner, which kinda makes them more bland. Seeing roadhog with shiny eyes just doesn't fit.
Yeah, I agree with you. I think the older ones looked more realistic and have that rugged hero look that your can respect/admire. Nothing beats the originals and I think that the new ones are either too smooth or overdone or something. The older ones flow better to me and give off that badass hero vibe whereas the new ones seem too "nice" or something.
Edit: Correcting autocorrect
I really love how the new animations show more of the characters’ personalities. Don’t get me wrong, the originals do show personality, but the new ones feel more fleshed out much like how they’ve all grown in the story since OW1
I love Reinhardt's little head tilt. It's so classy
2:43 look everyone its G-Force
I like how their idea for a timeskip was to just give them more hair.
As a Sigma main, him splitting one large thing into two smaller spheres just emphasizes my head cannon of Sigma being Blizzard's version of Oppenheimer and how he contributed to the discovery of splitting "2 and 3 from 5"
Especially with that dead look in his eyes, I just can't get it out of my head that he IS Oppenheimer.
You did NOT have to add the ERB lyric
I will say, I like how the newer ones show a bit more of their weapons and abilities, like Brigitte, showering her flail *and* shield, or DVa, showering how she can summon a mech, or have a mini pistol when she's out of it, but some are kinda stupid, like Reinhardt's, Zarya's and Winston's. They barely show how they're gonna play or any weapons/abilities they have. Just a "hi" and that's it
I think most of these are upgrades since the majority are just the old animations but with more animation, so it’s pretty cool 👍 the only ones I really have a problem with are sigma’s (the piano thing along with the hand movement was way better than this new thing) and junkrat’s bc even tho I feel like his intro should have more life than it did before, he seems more like a hyper little kid than a crazy person
I can't believe people are saying these animations have killed the game for them. There's bugs and not to mention the gameplay is different due to 5v5 changing thr structure of fights, but some animations when selecting g a character has killed your game experience. Wow
for some people, it's the little things that matter the most. ow2 changed a lot of little features and completely destroyed the feel of the original game. for example, only having one endorsement, removing the cards at the end of the game, smoothing down the character designs, and changing the color scheme from dark grey to cloudy blue. not saying that any of the changes were objectively bad, but don't judge people for what they let ruin a game for them yknow?
@@channel-ge3tv true. Base game feels good but the small features are mostly downgraded now whichs sad. I wish we could pick out what animations/hud etc. we want whether from ow1 or ow2
@@channel-ge3tv I find it hard to believe people would quit over an animation as most of them are better in overwatch 2 and it's not even really a minor it's an incredibly stupid reason to hate on the game for.
@@channel-ge3tv Well it literally is a new game after all so things are bound to be different.
@@0xD1CE thats true, and thats part of the reason why i think ow1 players should be allowed to dislike ow2. its kinda sad that the games aren't different enough to coexist tho
The new ones are way too close, we kinda end up seeing less of the overall pose... some are worse for other reasons too. but I admit the new animations of genji, sombra and symmetra are better, for example.
I think it's because it's zoomed in more here.
They got sue due to sexual harrassment in real life. so I think the company has work on less erotic concept now so they zoom in (especially D-va). They even try to encrypt model from nsfw.

Echo looking at the player like a dog who just notice it's owner got back from work with treats.
Sombras one is nice, she also has a different reaction when she looks at you
I'll forever miss Cassidy's old animation. Felt like I was playing Arthur Morgan with that animation, just a calm cool collected gunslinger you wouldn't wanna mess with. But then when you got to know him, you saw the funny charming kind hearted side of him.
Reaper's selection animation is honestly a good example of "if it aint broke dont fix it" tbh, barely any changes aside from him shadow stepping before doing the pose he did in his old animation
I like ow2 more the characters have a lot more personality
The only problem is the camera is too close
The FoV deels a bit different. Like the camera is placed closer to the characters.
I feel like these do a good job showing what the hero is all about, like showing off their weapons, and with more expressive gestures that I think captures the hero’s attitude. Reaper I think is the best over all of this because he fades into existence and crosses his arms with two giant shotguns. That’s basically how you play Reaper and I think new players watching that intro get the idea of kinda how you would play that hero.
I really like dva's new one. The impact of the mech landing on her hair and stuff is kinda satisfying. Plus the way her back arches in the old one looks weird
The new ones have personality but they feel a bit overkill and in your face
Kinda hate most of the new ones honestly, the old ones had a more impacting "snappy" animation, like it cuts to the chase saying "yeah this is what my character is." A lot of the new ones feel unnecessarily drawn out.
Hard disagree.
One thing I haven't seen others mention is that the compositions of their poses look significantly worse. You can see this with most of the heroes, but for ex. just compare Zarya's ending animations with each other: 2:59. OW1 has a very "heroic" looking pose, with her standing at a three quarters view, and her gun extending past the camera at a slight perspective angle, while the OW2 pose is just an awkward close up front shot (that cuts off most of her body (and doesn't even include her gun)) of her standing with her arms at her side. Another ex. 0:14, OW1 Ashe, where you can see most of her body and gun, and where her head's tilted at just the right angle for her hat to cover one eye, giving her a pretty striking (and pretty cool looking) pose. Compared to OW2, where she's basically just standing there with her gun offscreen.
The old poses overall just look so much cleaner and are better composed, imo. One other thing that kinda bothers me as well (that's unrelated to the animations themselves) is that the new hero models seem "softer," and somehow more cartoony.
So much this. Any thoughts about other characters? I'd love to read them.
And yes, Zarya definitely has this cheap cartoon-ish feel.
I feel like the first one often feel so mysterious and I think it fits so well because like it's a new game and you wanted to know how this character are gonna be like
It feels like Blizz grew more comfortable with the characters’ portrayals in 2. All of the animations are way more personal and fluid. There’s more expressions and movements all around.
The old ones were made with a concept of a hero behind a glass who was waiting to be picked by the player. The presentation was subtle in most cases.
The new ones are made as if the heroes are put into a ring and are waiting to get into fight any moment now. Like some kind of wrestler. The presentation in most cases is flashy and sometimes exaggerated.
I personally like the first approach.
That's exactly what I am thinking. The new ones are more like that they were from Chinese mobile games.
@@reichdas4421 yes the i feel more comfortable with the ow1 animations
Yeah. Same with the new designs. The only one I could say I like more is Hanzo's.
Yes! This is why I really like old Winston's animation. The 'hmph' part is just *chef's kiss*.
Man, I hadn't realized how much of a glow up everyone got! The side by side comparison really helps to show off how much the game is improved. The difference in how much more personality and charm they've added to all of the characters is incredible.

I honestly love the new animations, but I liked sigmas old one! Especially with the piano melody. It gives off a controlled chaos vibe to him. Idk I just do
I really wish they kept the old ones too. I have the 30th anniversary skin for rein and with his old default the skull visor would be down and then come up. Loved it and thought it was unique.
Despite the more flashy animations, I think the ow2 intros are more relatable and intimate because most of the characters rests in a comparatively neutral stance, something a normal person would idle in. Many ow1 idle suspends the characters at a overly dramatic stance that feels unnatural and over-the-top
Ow1 positions are just fine.
these are way extra for being select animations
for the characters who are in the overwatch team, the animations seemingly try to tell that they have changed after overeatch 1 and are hopeful of overwatch's uprise in the story.
the ow1 designs are better but the ow2 fits are elite
The animation takes 10 secs to load on the ps4 lmao
Yeah lol
I think the misses were with ashe (she looks more intimidating in ow1), brig (feels clunky, not like a majestic paladin), jrat (looks weird, not chaotic) and mercy (again, a bit to brute for a graceful character), others were a remaster, a sidegrade, or a giant improvement (like genji, sombra and sigma)
Zarya and Rein's are awful, they don't even showcase their weapons.
I disagree only with Ashe. Ashe is sassy, intimidating, smug, and I think the ow2 animation represents that more. ow1 feels like "oh yeah i'm a bad girlboss", and ow2 more like "see what I can do? you better don't mess with me." don't get me wrong, i love Ashe and both animations are cool but I like the ow2 animation more
I like how each character now looks at the player, finally acknowledging our presence.
But I would still want the random Highlights to play random when I take center stage.
Anyone miss the Loot boxes?
It might not matter, or even be known, by most people, but Rein used to have a special helmet animation when using his Raynhardt skin and the default highlight intro. Completely gone now. One of the few things I really miss.
So... It's just that the OW1 animations were more subtle and simple
Yeah. OW2 ones are way overdone, especially the facial expressions.
Agree
@@LordTactusMe, and especially Cassidy's, it's straight up downgrade.
1000% agree, Overwatch 1 animations were so perfect
Everything was downgraded. Ow1 was premium and ow2 is free to play. Notice the pattern of removed iconic features. Some even have skin tone degradations. Awful awful awful.
Is it me, or did Junkrat get a glowup. really love his new animation way more, its more to his personality being a explosive nut.
I really like both the junkrat animations. The first one just seems like static in the brain and the second one is just golden.
I've noticed the chracters are closer to the screen, it shows more of their face and upper body and less of their lower body and legs
There are definitely some hits and misses
Like the new animations for hanzo moira and orisa are great!
But then you have some duds like Tracer Soilder and Zaria
I'd take old hanzos animation over this new one
soldiers was good though. way better than his old one which was basic af
Depends on preferences, Im a Tracer main and tbh I loved old one but new is great as well. I would love they add hair blow up but still nice :v
I prefer tracers new one.
I don’t get the hate for Zaryas i think it’s better
I actually prefer the old ones more don't know why. Especially DVA.
nostalgia thats why lol
@@NamelessViking01 jajaja
Lemme help you a bit: ow2 has lower standards because it's free to play.
Thanks I missed the old animation :)
God the animations are so good. Being an animator this just makes me gush at how good this looks
Widowmaker knows what you were looking at.
In my opinion:
- The older character models seem to conform more to a theme (or stereotype lol)
- The newer models conform more to the lore of the world they live in.
I think the best example of this is Junkrat. OW1 Junkrat looks like the standard crazy pyrotechnic person, but some of his design doesn't make as much sense canonically.
When I see OW2 Junkrat, I think "yeah this is what the average australian crazyhat"
Old maestro main here, would love to see a combination of old and new together. Maybe old beginning then going to new one after
Cassidy, Hanzo and Doomfist were so classy in OW1, but the new ones are fine too, specially Widow and Symmetra with the oasis skin is fire
Not a big fan of Doom and Zarya's, their old ones had so much more personality imo
Bro what? Zarya's old one was her flexing and dooms old one was making a fist. How is that "personality?"
ppl always gotta find anything to complain about lmao. 99% of these animations are better than the old ones by a longshot lol. and im not trying to defend ow2 hell naw bro, im just saying the truth yall. leave nostalgia behind people, its a new era. as hard as it is, you gotta get used to it
Sadly ppl cant see what is nostalgia and it will always affect how they see the game
Basically
The older ones are more character focused while the new ones feel very "oh your picking me", i think thats why the older ones just feel overall better for the most part. There is just more personality in most of them.
i really wish they would let you pick from the overwatch 1 animation or the overwatch 2 animation, like you can do with the skins.
2:56 Zarya is the only one i miss
Overwatch 2 was the discovery of overshooting animation frames haha. Every character seems to have fairly extreme overshoot and overlapping frames, which isnt necessarily a bad thing, but it is definitely a bit more extreme than the first game.
I honestly didn't even notice they changed since I stopped playing Overwatch for a long time and then Overwatch 2 came out and I played but didn't notice a difference
