Thanks so much for sharing this - I was a fan of Dave and The Damned's music from the 1980s and never knew about Dave's passion for bikes. I've spent a few hours reminiscing about the music and this was a real nice watch! I remember going to a Pink Fairies gig in London in the late 1980s, can't remember the venue - somewhere in Soho and now closed. I was at the bar getting some drinks and Dave came up next to me dressed in the full goth garb. Wonderful stuff😄 Now living in Amsterdam, I saw that The Damned are due to play here soon and I might go along for old times' sake.🎸
In my opinion the punk movement or whatever you want to call it had such a huge impact on music and culture that has never been equaled ! And never will be !
The most significant musical revolution, everything since in debt to it, brought forward a wave of creativity, opened the door for everybody, the DIY spirit, not least has it meant a lot for women in the music world - and in society, it strengthened their position all over. Punk lives!
I’m a 100% straight 58 year old man but I’ll tell you this Dave looks absolutely gorgeous here.I would be all over him like a cheap suit. He is simply ravishing!
a friend of ours in London, had won an eb*y auction for a motorcycle part, but the seller was here in the US, so he had it shipped to our house, and it was going to be picked up by his friend, "Dave Vanian". he looks at us waiting for a reaction. "OK, let us know when", he repeats his name. This name went over our heads because it was so out of place, for that name, and our friend,,, it was so out of context. I was a punker in southern california starting, basically in 1978. So, here he comes with his wife, Pat. she was pregnant. Pat, "The Bags" were probably one of the 1st punk bands I ever saw live. Anyway, we had a great visit talking about things, they stayed for awhile. I have vintage Harleys so we had a good chat. After they left, i don't know what it was, my wife and I look at each other, and say "Dave Vanian" over and over a couple times. It only then dawned on us. it was DAVE VANIAN!!! and PAT!! Dave if you read this, how's Hairy Lee doin?

Wooooowww!!!! I can't tell you how much I am enjoying this!!! DAVE VANIAN!!! on his MOTORCYLE!!!!! What an awesome day you had!! I would love to tell you all my Dave story!!! Back in 1985, I lived in London as a 19 year old.....A gothy punk girl, I loved the Damned since I was about 12 years old....So....I worked on Carnaby Street, and also the Piccadilly Circus area....I was walking down Carnaby street and almost passed out!!! I saw Dave and his then-wife Laurie about to go into a shop!! I went up to them and said hello there, I'm sorry to bother you but I just wanted to say hello and I love you !!! hahah....something like that....I told Laurie I love her clothes and wear them....I told Dave I knew about the book being written by Carol Clerk (the Light at the End of the Tunnel) about the band and that I wanted to have some of my photography put in the book!! Dave was very nice about it and said he would connect me with their manager, and he gave me his name and number. I contacted him and told him I am a photographer and want to get a press pass to photograph the band in the pit at their upcoming TEA PARTY 10th ANNIVERSARY gig at Finsbury Park!! Yes Indeed, I got the press pass and was allowed access to the pit during the show!!! New Model Army opened the show....What an incredible experience.....I got TONS of great photos....I went round to the managers office a week or so later with a huge envelope of photographs.....Well.....the sad part of the story is I did not get credit for my awesome photographs....I was devastated and cried buckets of tears when the book finally came out and I found my photos but no listing of my name ...I am making a video actually right now, showing my actual negatives and photographs next to the pictures in the book.....One of my most favorite bands, and somehow some other dude got credit and then no credit at all.....So, that was a big ol' bummer....but MY photographs ARE in the book, even if my silly ol' name didn't get in there with the others.....I assume my photos just got thrown in and then confused ...... who knows.....I thought I had written my name on the back of every photo.....I have seen the Damned many many times, in London, and in the US. I am putting together some more film photographs of the band to set to their music in video format here soon as well. I am about to film with my dji osmo action a hyperlapse ride at night while riding my 125cc scooter and to set it to the Damned's new song "Motorcycle Man"....I can't 'wait! LOVE now and forever Dave and the band! Captain is super fun to talk to as well. I hope to chat to them again next time around. Oh and another fun story.....I was down FRONT (what a maniac idea that was, I nearly got crushed!!!!!!) at a show at the Hammersmith Palais......and I was getting CRUSHED man, I mean, I was barely 20, a tiny gal sort of....about to get crushed on the ground....well some people in the pit realized I was about to die and somehow some people behind me pushed me up whilest the security guards lifted me over the fencing, and carried me off the side stage to safety backstage where I managed to get sorted out and return to the show but way on the side, waaaayyyyy on the side, lol....that was WILD> AND I even saw myself on a recorded footage on the telly, me being lifted over the security and carried off, it was on a show that was on the telly - I spit my tea out when I saw it....damn I wish I could find that footage again....I have the ticket stub for that show still. the Damned were a HUGE part of my world, and I say still are, always will be. I LOOOOVVVVE the new album it is freaking bloomin AWESOME!!!!!!!! XOXOXOXOX Thank you for this show with Dave! You are quite badass yourself!!! ROCK ON YALL~~~~

I discovered the Damned back in the late 80s, and have played their music ever since, never really looking into the guys themselves. This video inspired a whole new level of respect in me for them, especially Vanian, although I don't believe he would have chosen motorcycles over being a rock star. When she asked that question, I knew he was split straight up the middle. But that is one GORGEOUS motorcycle he has, that 1945 HD, the epitome of classic motorcycles, and just looking at it brought tears to my eyes (Figures they would try putting him on a V-Rod to try seducing him away from his anchor in time). I would spend my last quid to ride with Dave Vanian on a road trip.

The Damned were always brilliant live - I remember seeing them headline at Brockwell Park in Brixton once back in the 80's - Never forget a couple of coppers foolishly venturing down the front in a futile attempt to 'control the crowd' - Both of them made a hasty retreat when they got caught up in the mosh-pit and had their helmets knocked off - The rest of the gig saw two bobby helmets bobbing about on top of the huge crowd 😂
