It’s hard to believe I’ll be 60 in 2 months! I remember who introduced me to the Damned - Ed Inman, Jackson, Mississippi 1979. I’ll never forget taking my teenage daughter to see The Damned in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 2017. The fun never stops!
Oh The Damned. So love them. I was a 16 year old kid still listening to the old bands,Led Zeppellin etc. I knew of the Sex Pistols and of the evil Punk thing that had happened in the UK but didn't really give the bands and the music a real go. I wouldnt dare tell my friends that I'd liked "Anarchy in the UK " a bit for some reason. Luckily my girlfriend at the time's elder brother came home with a record he said we had to hear. It was Machine Gun Ettiquite. I was completely blown away. Actually we all were. As we know their early stuff a little more raw and they would never consider a piano on a record. The piano intro to "Melody Lee" and then into the chords in fast Damned fashion left me speechless. I bloody loved it and the whole album which literally changed my musical life. Dont get me started on The Black Album. What a masterpiece. This led me to listening to everything i could from the UK. The Stranglers,The Jam,Buzzcocks etc. All the greats and so glad I did thanks to these blokes and their bandmates. Cant wait to see them here in Australia in a couple of months. @Tenerife Red Dog Cruise liner entertainment management. You would think that a band like The Damned, Croydons finest, should be lined up to play Fairfield Halls with some fanfare! They are ambassadors and would give the venue much needed positive PR. Transport links to East Croydon are excellent, with Fairfield Halls just 5 mins from the station. This concert venue should be attracting bands like The Damned, but christ only knows what the management company of F Halls is doing. Its a waste.
