moparbee Deadly Dave still looks fit at 60! And I suppose Captain does too! But neither compare to JJ Burnell at 60+ when stripped to the waist live in concert! God! This heterosexual need a reality check! Jaz, you are "fiercely heterosexual!" Help me out here!
For those that don't know - the Damned's last "So Who's Paranoid ?" is a smokingly fantastic album - GET IT !! especially the one with the three bonus tracks ... SUPERB , as good as it gets , psychedelic , punk , pop , rock , all done with class , taste & instrumental mastery with a true vocalist ... Kings !!
Never met Steve. But I met Captain and Dave in about 2005. Sat next to Captain and chatted away for a good hour or so. The gig was brilliant. Getting to the dressing room and talking to them was a joy. Captain Sensible is a one off top dude. Very chatty and informative. Just a guy in a popular band that wants to be a guy. Dave is the same. Just a bit more private. Lovely guys. Hope I meet them again 🤘🤘
These are some of the best pop/rock musician interviews I've heard, Jones has a real knack for this sort of thing, probably built on genuine affection and respect for his interview subjects. Thanks for posting.
New The Damned studio album "Evil Spirits" will be released in early 2018. Is has been recorded with producer Tony Visconti (David Bowie,...) in New York in October 2017 and has been mixed/mastered recently. "Lots of inspiration and even more perspiration went into the making of this album", according to Tony Visconti. The album's ten tracks include "Procrastination", "We're So Nice", "Shadow Evocation", "Evil Spirits" and the single "Standing On The Edge Of Tomorrow",... Vanian describes the album as "a mix of all our best bits from Phantasmagoria to The Black Album. Chock full of melody and guitar licks with a lot of 60s psychedelic feel. There's rawness, but anyone looking for out-and-out raucousness and nothing else might not be so happy." Some say it's the best Damned album since 30 years.
first saw them in 78 @ Nashville room with Brian...seen All the line ups...Rays a true unique person, Dave's always been out there........genuine talent in that studio....they shared a few buses together
these guys. sensible and vanian possess character. they are talented and have seen it all, done it all, and have endured and survived. the damned were a great rock band, still are. call it punk or whatever you want. i personally love the first two albums but like it all. i think it would be cool to see a punk supergroup like steve jones, vanian, captain sensible, and a solid punk powerhouse drummer and bassist do a project. too much to ask ? i think not.
What a dichotomy Captain & Dave are. One is as base and classless as can be and the other is pure refinement. I guess that's what made The Damned so good. They tempered each other.
But , there is a difference in today's pop "music" because there's no f'ing instrumental musicality in it , in much of it , it is diabolical !! haha The Captain is of course correct . & it's not all obviously but by far most ... my wife's kitchen radio ( opposite tastes !! ) has now changed to new country because even she couldn't take it anymore & that's saying something ... very much looking forward to the new Damned Album , hugely !! Ray is an awesome guitar player
Just got Final Jeopardy right..It involved the departed legend with the surname Jones(who's music played right before this began). Now a living Jones legend to watch and listen to.. And punk rock royalty from 3!
There's an absolute good reason to hate new things. Everything gets worse over time because of the people that direct society want everyone to be stupid.
Bowies best stuff is the Berlin Trilogy and Man who Sold the World...but I agree with the Captain about today's music and hating most of these kids. Great interview... these are the best punks
Jonesey was a massive David Bowie fan and the Captain was a huge Marc Bolan fan. Jonsey couldn't have picked a worse Bowie album to piss off the Captain 😁
Ha yeah my blank friends you went from, deep purple to punk purple yes isn't it grand and us your little bros behind you are now saying the same me I always find the new in the old or vice versa yes capt smash the bloody radio
My life has been immeasurably better since I turned my back on punk and live music in 1986. I see that period of my life as the worst decision of my life.
Punks not dead 🤘it’s just old and easily irritated😁
Vanian's voice is as good as ever!!! Captain sensible tells it like it is!! Love it!!!
moparbee Deadly Dave still looks fit at 60! And I suppose Captain does too! But neither compare to JJ Burnell at 60+ when stripped to the waist live in concert! God! This heterosexual need a reality check! Jaz, you are "fiercely heterosexual!" Help me out here!
They just don't quit. We liked them and Rachel Sweet at the same time which seems contradictory and strange and impossible to me now.
Wot!
Dave 6 years later sounds even better and still looks great. Captain as sensible as ever supporting Trump and not getting the vaxxines!!! Wot!!!
imagine the 3 of them talking in 1977 would have been totally different lol
For those that don't know - the Damned's last "So Who's Paranoid ?" is a smokingly fantastic album - GET IT !! especially the one with the three bonus tracks ... SUPERB , as good as it gets , psychedelic , punk , pop , rock , all done with class , taste & instrumental mastery with a true vocalist ... Kings !!
Dave laughing at Whitestick made this worth a watch
I saw the Damned a few times back in the 80s, the most hilarious gigs ever
Never met Steve.

Proper punks speaking from the heart, love it!

Check out the Moby ones - very funny
Dave's reactions to Captain Sensible say it all really
these guys. sensible and vanian possess character. they are talented and have seen it all, done it all, and have endured and survived. the damned were a great rock band, still are. call it punk or whatever you want. i personally love the first two albums but like it all. i think it would be cool to see a punk supergroup like steve jones, vanian, captain sensible, and a solid punk powerhouse drummer and bassist do a project. too much to ask ? i think not.

What a dichotomy Captain & Dave are. One is as base and classless as can be and the other is pure refinement. I guess that's what made The Damned so good. They tempered each other.
That's a persona that the Captain created over the years.
Hahaha
Take these TikTok ad's and shove them where the sun doesn't shine! :0)
That was hilarious just for the awkwardness of it all. Poor Dave. He could hardly get a word in.
Dave never really liked interviews anyway. Just fab seeing them again.
I love the Jam!And the Damned too.😀❤❤
But , there is a difference in today's pop "music" because there's no f'ing instrumental musicality in it , in much of it , it is diabolical !! haha The Captain is of course correct . & it's not all obviously but by far most ... my wife's kitchen radio ( opposite tastes !! ) has now changed to new country because even she couldn't take it anymore & that's saying something ... very much looking forward to the new Damned Album , hugely !! Just got Final Jeopardy right..It involved the departed legend with the surname Jones(who's music played right before this began). Now a living Jones legend to watch and listen to.. And punk rock royalty from 3!

I'm mostly into hardcore punk and never knew much of The Damned, except from the one Young Ones episode they were on. But this was a great interview.
Great T-Shirt Capt.
fine gorgeous gentleman Dave.. still biting

The Captain is spot on !
5.17: "It jus' goes on an' on; fun an' then, er... then misery."
I live near Brighton! - I wouldn't say its anywhere near as much as a party town as, Dublin or Prague!!! : )
Dublin and Prague are both amazing cities. But.........I like Brighton too. Always had fun there.
Yeah - I like Brighton very much.
Really? Summer time in the Lanes is like Mardi Gras. Stay away from West Street.
The Captain recorded songs in London's Tin Pan Alley doncha know too !
"Craven A's. They're good for your throat!"

Ha ha. I never would have thought it.

He wants to smash the radio just like the bloke who smashed his telly in 77. . .
Bognor Regis...........
My life has been immeasurably better since I turned my back on punk and live music in 1986. I see that period of my life as the worst decision of my life.
