      It was always Cook Jones together, even in the swindle movie. John was not part of it and so was the situation with Glen that was later replaced by Sid who was the real anarchist. They always die young, ya know....

    Cook always kept the Pistols grounded, they needed one normal down to earth geezer among all the loose cannons especially after Matlock was replaced by Sid, he was their Entwistle.

    • @glennoc8585
      @glennoc8585 7 лет назад +6

      bogus money Matlock was a smart grounded bloke too. Those two were the brains of the outfit. Cook and Matlock can mix well with anyone because they didn't do the drugs and booze like Steve, did and , Johnny. John always seems pissed these days.

      Don’t insult JE. Sid couldn’t play the bass bc he was too stoned. Tragic and not his fault but he is not or will be considered an entwistle. Poor sids mother gave him heroin as a young teenager!

      the term underrated is used alot but you r right, in this case paul cook def is. I wouldn't under appreciated tho by the pistols themselves. They all knew Cookie was more then solid. You had to be a bit of a talent to keep beat and drum them songs!

    Steve was a former skinhead and petty thief who loved music. He and John never got on as Steve didnt accept John as any form of leader or band representative....which (like it or not) he became
    The band formed with a singer - Wally - Glen, Paul and Steve. They had a rehearsal suite for over a year just outside Hammersmith, as Wally's dad worked for a firm which made the room available. They could play with limitations, mainly with stolen equipment. Steve couldnt sing, neither could Wally....in came Malcolm who latched on to them as the band hung round his Kings Road shop, where Glen worked. Malcolm advertised for a singer. BANG!
    Glen was ostracised by Steve for being a perfectionist and a moaner
    Sid was treated as an oddball by everyone except John, who thought he would stand out in a crowd. Malcolm heard the kerching as soon as he met him
    Paul could play drums well, he was friendly and comfortable
    Steve became a top guitar player - also played 90% of the bass on NMTB, after Chris Thomas insisted
    Malcolm saw the band as an extension of his shops, to add in more publicity for a new wave of arts - mainly London centric - around Let it Rock which became Sex, which became Seditionaries
    John tolerated Steve, loved Paul, didnt mind Glen
    Glen was a decent bass player who knew Malcolm well and he saw fame on the horizon, but became a Pete Best figure when Steve told him to fuck off
    Sid was a drug-dependent loner who didnt own a bass and couldnt play. He found a home when John suggested he joined to bolster the image and reputation of the band - he was mainly intended to be a good laugh
    Steve tolerated Sid as a talentless, yet amusing, add-on and unlike Glen, Sid didnt try to boss anyone around
    Everyone, apart from Glen, despised Malcolm, yet they all fell in with him as he provided the band's much needed structure: no Malcolm = no TV appearance, no album, no fame....
    Complex, wasn't it?n
