Ahhh those days of walking into a dark, sweaty club (usually in a cellar) and hearing those songs pounding out, feeling the beat through the walls! Halcyon days ❤
I used to play it on repeat. I could sing but as my voice was breaking I sang through it to this and other eighties greats, who knows I might have been the new Dave Vanian if I had taken greater care. Doubt it!
@Chris Fox ruclips.net/video/-D24yIYiVBc/видео.html I remember seeing Dave Vanian with Barry Ryan on breakfast TV (UK) back in 86 when Eloise was selling very well. Barry enjoyed the way thatThe Damned played it!
Depeche Mode frontman Dave Gahan said that Dave Vanian's dance moves and stage persona were a huge influence on him in the early 1980s. Gahan said that he used to nervously cling to the microphone stand during his early performances, but watching video of Vanian and imitating him inspired him to move about on stage more and then he became more confident and would later develop his own style. After watching this I now know exactly what Gahan was talking about. The stage presence and dance moves from this era are very similar between the two.
I’ve seen DM a lot through the years…and Dave really did develop confidence and change his stage persona. I think he was really at the top of his game around ‘98/‘99 He was fantastic on stage at Madison Square Garden - I danced along with him at my seat the entire time!
I see both Depeche mode and the Damned at the bridge house , canning town , albeit the damned played under an alias name called The School bullies and Depeche mode was just the two of them with a keyboard great days probably 1980 ! Love to everyone ❤

It's amazing that Dave Vanian had such an operatic baratone/bass voice it isn't praised as much as others. This was probably due to his punk roots which seemed gloriously out-of-place even at the time. It wasn't until The Damned began recording music like this that his voice was able to be appreciated for what it was.

It just doesn’t have Barry’s charisma…
More rocked up as you say,a bit less operatic perhaps.

Every night I'm there
I'm always there
She knows I'm there and heaven knows
I hope she goes (Eloise)
I find it hard to realise
That love was in her eyes
It's dying now
She knows I'm crying now
And every night I'm there
I break my heart to please
Eloise
Eloise
You know I'm on my knees yeah
I said please
You're all I want so hear my prayer
My prayer
My Eloise is like the stars that please the night
The sun that makes the day
That lights the way (Eloise)
And when that star goes by
I'll hold it in my hands and cry
Her love was mine
You know my sun will shine
You're all I want you've got to hear my prayer
My prayer
My Eloise I'd love to please her
I'd like to care but she's not there
And when I find you
I'd be so kind you'd want to stay
I know you'd stay
And as the days grow old
The nights grow cold
I wanna hold her near to me
You know she's dear to me
And only time will tell
And take away this lonely hell
I'm on my knees to my Eloise
You're all I want you've got to hear my prayer
My prayer
You are my life so hear my prayer
You are the prize I know you're there
I know you're there
You're all I want you gotta hear my prayer
Yeah yeah yeah
You're all I need but you're not there
Oh no you're not there
No no no no
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
My Eloise
Oh I'd love to please her
Oh my Eloise
Oh my Eloise oh my Eloise
Don't lie to me
I said no no no no
My Eloise
