    I like how we get a bit of an arc with Korax's taunts in this
    Hub 1: INCREDIBLY smug, you can just feel the sarcasm in this "polite" greeting to the heroes, definitely not taking them seriously
    Hub 2: Seems a bit annoyed, "why is this bug still crawling around?", clearly still thinks you aren't worth his time and that his minions will sort you out, the way he says "human" drips with disdain
    Hub 3: Still extremely condescending and still more than happy to make fun of the heroes
    Hub 4: No longer sarcastic is he? Korax now sees the heroes as a threat and confidently lets them know that destroying them is now his top priority
    Hub 5: Korax goes back to being mocking by trying to ruin the heroes morale, revealing they will be fighting their old leaders with a cruel question, but now there is also apprehension in his voice, as if Korax is also asking himself that question

      Personally, I think his line for hub 5 isn't mocking at all. I 100% think he's asking a legit question because he sees you as a serious threat and genuinely isn't sure if Zedek, Menelkir, and Traductus will be able to stop you.
      His confidence is entirely shaken, and he's no longer sure that any of the minions he's put in your way will be able to stop you; so he essentially asks you directly "are you strong enough to face this? Will you end up posing the greatest threat I've ever dealt with?" And, of course, he's right to doubt since you end up killing him.

      Hub 3, he is slightly intrigued by the hero's and recognized there potential. Possibly thinking he could use them for his bidding, then is like na. I'll end them.

      Yeah I always thought the whole fight was kind of a let down. Sometimes if you play it right you can see the direction they intended the fight to go, but it’s easy to cheese it and make the fight boring. Still love Hexen to bits though!

    • @JasonsDigitalStuff
      @JasonsDigitalStuff 4 года назад +5

      @@giraffitti168 I agree, it wasn't one of the best boss battles of the series altogether. I even thought some of the boss battles with the Four Horsemen in Hexen 2 eclipsed that final battle with Korax. Most notably the battles with Death and War. D'Sparil was more epic in Heretic, as well as the fight with Eidolon in Hex2. I consider that battle with Eidolon among the better boss fights in gaming history!

    If Hexen had taunts from the three playable characters, this would be the ideal result...
    Korax to the three characters: Greetings Mortal. Are you ready to die?
    Baratus the Fighter to Korax: I'm ready to die, are you Korax???
    Korax to the three characters: My servants can smell your blood, human!
    Baratus the Fighter to Korax: They can smell your blood too, and your blood to them taste far better!
    Korax to the three characters: Worship me, and I may yet be merciful. Then again, maybe not.
    Parias the Cleric to Korax: Were already killing all your worshipers, some deity you are!
    Korax to the three characters: You have played this game too long mortal... I think I shall remove you from the board.
    Daedolon the Mage to Korax: Why don't you come here yourself already? Your minions are horrible at this game.
    Korax to the three characters: Are you strong enough, to face your own masters?
    Baratus the Fighter to Korax: Are you strong enough to face us?
    Parias the Cleric to Korax: We'll smite you down!
    Daedolon the Mage to Korax: The moment you asked us if we where ready to die was the moment you've signed your life away fiend!

    I'm always curious to know how big of a role Heresiarch, the dark sorcerer in Hexen, had with the Serpent Riders. Didn't realize that sorcerer was supposed to be the 2nd Serpent Rider, but that idea got scrapped (and does show in Heretic Ending). Plus, I always thought Heresiarch was as powerful as Korax.

    • @Dracomut
      @Dracomut 6 лет назад +4

      Indeed, I always liked to think the Heresiarch was secretly plotting against Korax and would have staged a coup against him if the players hadn't killed him

    • @HexdaHeresiarch
      @HexdaHeresiarch 5 лет назад +8

      In an NPC battle, If done on any map besides Map40 - Dark Crucible, the Heresiarch will easily beat Korax. They both have 5,000 hp, and Korax's scripted events don't work on any other level. The Heresiarch can't beat him on Map 40 because of how the boss fight is scripted and how many linedefs are uncrossable by monsters. Unless you place him in an enclosed spot, such as the ammo spawner room, the crusher platforms, or the big fire pit in the second room, he'll get telefragged. This means he is restricted to one of the two rooms and unable to target korax half the time. I wish we could see a fight of D'Sparil vs Heresiarch, but its impossible without mods.

    • @memester7093

      @@HexdaHeresiarch In my source port Heresiarch's attacks are weak AF and Korax wins all the time tbh. (i use both GZDoom and Zandronum btw)

    • @HexdaHeresiarch
      @HexdaHeresiarch 2 года назад +1

      @@memester7093 This is likely because you either have them them distanced to the point that close-range combat doesn't happen, or have something enabled or altered that Makes Korax immune to Splash damage. All of Heresiarch's attacks except for direct hit impact damage from his bouncing fireballs are dealt entirely as splash damage. Since no enemies besides the friendly spawnable Dark Servant and I believe the Death Wyvern are immune to Splash damage this usually isn't an issue, but put him up against a Cyberdemon or any other boss that is immune to Splash damage, and you'll find his purple cube blast attack to be utterly useless and deal 0 damage, and the fireballs to only deal about 10 damage on impact. Korax is among the only Doom Engine boss enemies (with Barons of Hell and Iron Liches) to be vulnerable to Splash damage.

    • @MadJak91
      @MadJak91 8 месяцев назад +1

      There is a sprite merger floating around of the Heresiarch mounted on Korax in a similar fashion as D'Sparil riding his Chaos Serpent and it honestly looks like that was the original plan. Maybe. Then for whatever reason they scrapped the hint at the end of Heretic and just used the possible mount as the Serpent Rider himself.

    D Sparil , Korax and Eidolon.. This 3 serpent riders, i think Korax and D'Sparil is the most iconic or smart than the last brothers because this 2 riders(D'sparil and Korax) using deception and cunning to manipulate or corrupt the leaders/ people in that world before conquer it, later make entire populace start to worship them and follow his dark ways until they are all were sapped of their free will and spirit ,etc Cronos the world where Korax reside .Eidolon is meh to me even he is the strongest of all 3 because i think he is no strategies at all just attack with help from his 4 generals horseman of apocalypses and destroy the world to fulfill his conquest and make people running and fear.

    • @Dracomut
      @Dracomut 6 лет назад +6

      Agreed, thats how I've always interpreted it. Even without the Chaos Sphere, Eidolon was an incredibly powerful demon, D'Sparil and Korax had to infiltrate and deceive their targets before safely invading with their armies. Eidolon on the other hand just started with a total assault and was not inconvenienced in the least by it.
      Korax is probably my favorite, I found he had the coolest design and I liked how he had bit more of a personality compared to the other Serpent Riders by constantly mocking the heroes. D'Sparil likely thought taunting beneath him and Eidolon probably wasn't interesting in speaking at all, but Korax definitely liked making himself known and seemed to relish in mocking his enemies.

    • @MyLifeIsDragonBall
      @MyLifeIsDragonBall 5 лет назад +6

      This is my opinion. I've always been scared of Eidolon, because it's very powerful and esthetically similar to Satan; anyway, he never has "attracted" me. Regarding Korax and D'Sparil.. my favourite is D'Sparil, because he wears a hood (he gives him a bit of mystery) but I have to admit that Korax's provocations make him very badass!

    • @Miicrowahvei

      @@MyLifeIsDragonBall I like D'Sparil most, I think he's badass with his trident and ability to summon disciples and even teleport. And his aesthetic is the most imposing out of the three serpent riders.
