You're right about having a decent hygiene kit. Most people don't understand that bad personal hygiene in the field can cause you to become sick/a casualty pretty quickly. That's why good field hygiene in the military is emphasised. At least when I was serving in the UK anyway.

    • @johnborges8231

I know that if I don’t wash after the day I get ripe! Now after a few days I start developing little welts that turn into sores shortly after. Keeping clean is mandatory for me. It’s crazy how people leave that out

@@johnborges8231 Yea, a lot of people think it's "cool" to be grubby. Personal hygiene along with staying in shape should be at the top of the agenda. If you're sick and unfit, you're not going to be much use.

I know this is an old comment but one of the first places your going to see hygiene affect your ability to perform is going to be your eyes. Now with that being said, the best way you can keep your eyes healthy is to keep your fingers clean. It's also good to keep your face at least marginally clean. You cant fight with pink eye. It will bring you down and take a few days to come back only if you have decent hygiene and antibiotics.

If you have to fly out of an area, either by your own cash or by charity, you may be allowed one bag or none. Know the bag size and weight limits for any mode of transport. Have your most critical gear on your body, your next best gear in one bag, and extra comfort gear in a third bag. Layer like this because you may not be able to take that larger and/or third bag so you don't want anything in it too critical in case you are forced to leave it behind.

Good Job as Usual. Couple of things. I'd attach a pair of Boots or Hiking Shoes to the pack. You might be in a Suit and Tie (remember 9/11), you grab your bag to Skedaddle, and you left your Boots on the floor of your car. Another one. My best friend was an Army Reserve MP who was in during your time (Gulf War, OIF 1 and 3). He's now a Police Chief, but he also works Private Security. When Sandy hit your area, he got a contract to work Security at a FEMA Shelter set up in a Community College on Long Island. When he and his "Crew" showed up at the Camp, the Local Police tried to take their Firearms away from them, because "Only New York State Certified Law Enforcement is allowed to be Armed". They even wanted to take away their Asps and Pepper Spray. So they made a call to the FEMA Guy in charge of the Camp, and even HE was told that he didn't have Authority over Firearms! That guy ended up calling up the Chain, and the Local US Marshal had to show up and threatened to Arrest those County Mounties if they didn't back off. BUT one of the Rules they DID enforce was No Weapons Allowed for Refugees in the Camp. So if you Evac and end up going to a Shelter, be prepared to be Disarmed and maybe even Arrested. Or find a Spot outside the Shelter and safely stash your Weapons when you go in. Hope this helps.

FYI. Gasoline just went over $4.00 a Gallon here in the US (Nationwide Average). First time since 2008. Sorry to say this, but I still wouldn't let any of my Vehicles get below a Half a Tank in case you need to Skedaddle. So it may be Expensive today, but I guarantee it'll be Worse down the road. So I recommend you top off now, and keep it topped off for the foreseeable future. In other words, it's cheaper to get a half of a Tank of Gas today at $4, rather than get a Full Tank next week at $5. And if you have to, make sure all of your Vehicles also are Filled. Some spouses and kids seem to think that Gasoline just Magically appears in the Tank. Hope this helps.

Mors Kochanski said to prioritize warmth and water.Since hypothermia will kill you before dehydration, if stuck outside in a cold winter, a large waterproof tarp and a sleeping bag rated to colder than the temps you expect would be very important. Sleeping bags are rated to the temperatures they will keep you alive at, not necessarily keep you comfortable. Then a water filter and a lighter and water bottle- that can also be placed over a fire ( uninsulated with top off) to boil water in for drinking or food preparation), then IDs, money, lightweight food ( ready to eat snacks, dehydrated soups, mashed potato flakes, instant oatmeal, instant coffee, tea, sugar and creamer packets ) - that's what I would take. Also don't forget your meds and OTC meds for pain/ fever,.diarrhea, heartburn and sleep. And toilet paper, you know why....if there's room wipes and sanitizer are nice. Candles are also good as a source of light and a little heat .

Being from a post-soviet country that mr. Putin hates, I'm preparing for the war as well. I want to add one idea - it would be a good idea to bring a swim ring or two with you. This idea came from my own needs - I can't swim too much and the enemy could bomb the bridges like they did in Ukraine. Also, you could also use it for getting your bag over the river. There could be children who can't swim. It's important the the swim ring has an option to attach a rope to it. It would be stupid to get stuck somewhere because all the bridges nearby are destroyed. Question - why can't you fish if there are rivers & lakes nearby? I have a fishing rod in my survival bag and I would definitely use it. Those ready-to-eat meals won't last forever.

yea its all great if you have a way to haul it all or are able to have a location. but an inch bag is for not coming home. that means no location and always on the move because there is no more stores. no more gas station. no ability to purchase. so. extra set of well biult boots. three pair of socks in each boot. a bow not a gun. thoe that is the best 22 there is. i have 25 round clips for mine. a bow you can make string and arrows for it. a collapsing bow and fishing pole or hobo real. remember to stay light. the three poncho system. rubber canvas and wool. the reason for a three poncho system is. its your shelter . its your jacket. its the protection for your pack. . that all being said. what you don't want is stuff you need to purchase once depleted. like bullets. food prep. military canteen set and mess kit is all you need. you can bake fry and stew. metal jug only for the canteen kit. i suggest the grail for water but the one you have will work. a mushroom identification book with spore prints. piano wire for snare . ok preservation of your boots . gators to protect your laces. sail needles you have. one file one stone. you have a nice carving kit but that is bad news in the woods or in the middle of no where. so you want super glue cat gut stitching and bow needles for stitching your self up. so i recommend forceps as well in your medical bag. . that all being said. remember your on your own. you can't buy anything so you need to have the gear you can use that you can replenish while in the woods. you can make string arrows and so one. that is how to survive with out stores. that is key. stay light. stay safe. and have good foot ware when the ones on your feet are no longer able to be fixed. think ahead and you will pick the right gear for you. three years of every day use. that is well biult gear. tv shows don't show that. you tube dose not show that.

Hygiene kits aren’t sexy so it’s good to hear that touched upon because it is so important. I’ve had a lot of experience in the bush, lived out in the mountains of colorado just to see if it was something I could do and stayed 8 months. Hygiene is where it’s at, a clean ass is always in style in the woods. I like wipes but nothing beats real soap. Dr. Brohners is awesome it’s concentrated so a little goes along way. Nalgene makes lab grade containers that I have yet to have broken or have leaked. A shemagh is good for alot of things but a dedicated towel is a awesome luxury. Remember your cleaning your ass and balls gents, do you want to cover your face with that? The one blade is bad ass guys, one head just using it to shave your neck will last forever, the battery is good and you can get a usb cable and charge it with a solar panel which means it will last forever pretty much and a good pair of scissors and a mirror is nice to have. With these things and a comb you can keep yourself up pretty good with practice. Things are going to get rough y’all best be prepared God bless!
