It wasn’t really a “mind trick” that was actually Billy just breaking down over being controlled by the mind flayer. The heat temporarily “deactivated” him.
Lorraine L It is possible but I think it is kind of 50/50 that he was playing them... Sure we know Billy is still in there but while he was on the ground giving that whole “I’m sorry I didn’t mean to do that” speech Will felt his spidey sense going off and Billy was grabbing the shard of tile and he was continuing to try to play on their emotions right up until he tried stabbing through the window
Yeah it probably let him temporarily back in control because it knew he would break down and make it more likely for max to believe him and open the door
I am 99% sure Billy's mind was entirely his own when he was pleading with Max. He was lucid and knew something was happening to him and he was scared. His demeanor totally changed when he was activated and Will felt "Him".
Yup, this is seen even more when El goes into his mind. When the mindflayer is speaking through him, Billy is still crying, pleading with his eyes for help. He's being victimized once again, he's helpless like he was as a child and he's trying hard to fight back, but he realizes that he isn't strong enough. His breakdown in the sauna is identical to Will's in the second season, when he's describing what it feels like to be invaded by the mindflayer. If anyone can relate to him in that aspect, it would be Will. Even Max can see the difference and that's why later she tries to remind him of who he is by reciting facts about him. I also like to think that Billy dropped her off in his happiest memory furthest from the storm on purpose because for just a minute, he had control.

That scene when Billy breaks down is a masterpiece. How Billy can tug at your heartstrings and make you feel bad for him in one scene when clearly he's the most hated character and bad guy of the show.. Such raw emotion in that and he totally breaks Max into tears..
@Chris, about the Billy leader/mindflayer thing: I think Billy was the first as in he got hit by the shadow just as Will did in Season 2. Billy then recruits others but infects them a different way (the face hugging thing, by the monster) hence the difference between him and the rest.
When Millie (eleven) slid down the wall with Finn (Mike) it wasn’t scripted Millie was so tired/drained from shooting that scene she just slid down and Finn slid with her and looked to the side where there was a camera guy cause he was worried about her

Hi everyone! I loved the discussion for this episode and all of the theories. I will say that I have watched all of season 3 yet my comment will remain spoiler free. I just want to touch on the subject of the Mind Flayer and the Russians. At the beginning of the season, the Russians were indeed trying to opened the portal and failed. The head guy in charge told the scientists that they had 1 year to perfect the machine. Now my theory is that the gate didn't open because it was nowhere near the activity of the upside down. And so the Russians actually DID have a spy in Hawkins and that spy witnessed the gate being opened there, hence why the Russians moved their operation to the small town in Indiana. I'm guessing that the gate can only open fully to a point where it's already been tampered with. And so the Russians slowly moved their way into Hawkins and bought it all out. That's my theory on them. Now my comment on the Mind Flayer is a little more simplified. The entire being of the Mind Flayer is STILL in the upside down. It almost got out at the beginning of the season but it didn't (like Marketa thought). The creature that we're dealing with this season is only a BRANCH of the shadowy monster (the part that invaded Will). And since I think this is a safe comment to say that we're not gonna see the full Mind Flayer this season, you can see how everything comes into perspective. If a single branch of this creature can invade the minds of am entire town and become it's own physical being then just imagine what the full creature can do. And while I'm on the subject, I noticed something else about the Upside Down. That branch of the MF that left Will should've died out like the rest of the creatures (Demodogs) but it didn't. I think that it's because it didn't have a physical form. It was never affected by the gate closing. That says a lot. I've noticed that Episode 4 of every season is my favorite episode because things get so intense! I love it. Also, Dacre Montgomery (Billy) and Millie Bobby Brown has some very great moments together this season. Keep a watch out for that. Well this comment is officially the longest you all will ever get (my apologies) so I'm gonna go now! 😅 I love you all and I hope that you have a wonderful day! Please keep providing us with wonderful content!!
I should notttt have read the comments 😭😭😭 I’m watching this season episode first and then reaction from the Normies and Blind wave immediately following the episode and I’ve just read at least three BIG spoilers in the comments of this episode alone 😭😭🌚
Suraj how could u think Billy would be fine with all the mind Flayer made him do, hes a dick sometimes and a bully but no physcho or killer. He even left Max alone ever since she stood up to him last season. Billy was finally able to talk during the sauna test, him crying and talking to Max was genuine & BILLY. Then the mind Flayer activated & started attacking the door and shouting abuse.
I probably hated on Mike the most this season...keep saying he has never really been punched in the face and had to fight...He just watches El fight and get beat down, then he stepped up...this was a great episode...so many great subplots all leading back to one...just dope
I mean, wasn't everyone around him telling him he was stupid for worrying about her so much and calling him controlling and saying el should decide her own limits? I loved mike this season tbh. He was a little disrespectful but he did the most this season to care for el. He did more than everyone. Like he said, everyone else pretty much treated her like a weapon rather than a person
+The Normies right Robin is dope as f*ck! I love how much she was able to win us over this season considering last season Max and Billy were the new kids on the block and I didn’t like them right away like I did with Robin.
She was cool though as random as her intro was she got stuck in and showed her worth. Still disappointed by her revelation since our boy Steve deserves someone yet I'm guessing they love the group mother thing he's got going and decided to build on it with the addition of Maya and my girl Erica too ✌ 😁😁😁

I love Erica man, that's my girl. At first when Erica said that she wanted free ice cream for life I was thinking the same thing as everybody else. She should have said free ice cream for as long as Robin and Steve are working at Scoops Ahoy. But thinking about what she actually said I realize that she didn't say from Scoops Ahoy. She told them that her price was free ice cream for life. Which means, no matter what, Steve, Robin and Dustin have to give her free icecream for the rest of her life. I mean come on, do we really think that little girl doesn't know what she wants and how to get it? Obviously she's very smart, (and we see more on that in future episodes) do we really think she wouldn't remember that they won't have this job forever?🤨 I don't think so.
when billy was pleading to max that was actually him and not the mindflayer, but when he reached for the shard it was the mindflayer. Billy was genuinely scared and crying
Suraj is the new Micro Machines Guy And yeah, it's pretty much made clear by it's form that that thing that facehugs the parents is the Mind Flayer, the part that infested Will, in a physical form, which I refer to as the Meat Flayer.
+The Normies I love how this new blob monster looks like the flayer and especially love how they have him like two curls on the top of “his” head...I say his because remember “he likes it cold.”
ngl every time the camera is on Billy's face his eyes feel the most emotion, you could feel him trying to get out in his eyes when the Mind Flayer is activated. Pretty sure Billy would break down even if Max was there or not, fighting against a foreign force is hard and Billy really tried his best :(
You know what I just realized, Max was with the group for not very long and they gave her a walkie-talkie to talk on. Meanwhile, Eleven has been with the group for 3 seasons and they never gave her one, even though she’s their star player and saves them every time. Kinda weird?
Yup! 19:55 it’s the first (and only?) F-word and Dacre Montgomery has said he cringes when he hears it because it’s the only time he can hear his Australian accent coming through.
Nancy is def a horrible GF to Johnathon at points in this episode. Her complete disregard of his situation is very apparent. The man is trying to help provide with a mom who already struggles with a brother who has been through the ringer in his childhood. Sure she is right but if we didn't know that because we are viewers and we essentially see all no one would be condoning her actions.
Well actually she also has to deal with the sexist views of the men in her workplace, so she is understandably harsh and cant be sympathetic towards him in the same way that he cant be sympathetic towards her. So no I refuse. Nancy was not being too harsh because hey he was being harsh too but we can understand both their perspective
no I cant understand her perspective at all. she jeopardized his job, continuously destroyed his photos, completely ignored his living conditions, and all for a story she literally had no idea was right or not. and after all of that has the audacity to be smug because she happens to be right but she still does not even acknowledge Johnathans situation. shes been a horrible person throughout the entire series if we look at it. @@allthingslexi6046
@@allthingslexi6046 He wasn't being harsh. Jonathon caved repeatedly to her demands, putting his own internship on the line, and then explained to her his very real concerns and spelled out why he was upset that they're actions landed them in that situation of losing said opportunity. Making a comparison to her comofrtable lifestyle was not unfair. She then belittled his concerns and his upbringing/background because, what, she's right? It's convenient that she is right in this case, but if she wasn't, her complete disregard of his struggles would have been a relationship ender regardless. As for her fight against the cartoonishly written men at the newspaper, meh. Those guys couldn't have been more over the top and one dimensional, so its hard to have any stake in her manufactured 'struggle'. Nuanced, that subplot was not.

Nancy was selfish.
It wasn't a mind trick. Billy was crying because he wants them to understand that he is beibg controlled. He was not activated at the time and he was explaining what it was doing. He got activated after and he was beggining to control him when he grabbed on to the white piece on the floor. Then he became the mind flayer again. Hope that clears things up again
That's wasnt an act that was Billy talking then the Mind Flayer activated him. It was no trick at all of course Billy isnt ok with it. His life has been hell, poor guy.
"How does Harper get away with this shit?" Well, their shared blackmail items. They only work on *Harper* if he's worried about keeping his job. If he's already *been* fired then, oh well, MAD is not just for nuclear weapons any more...
Fun fact Dacre who plays billy wasn’t supposed to smash through the glass he was just supposed to yell at the kids but he said he was so into the role he smashed it and you can tell by the look of pure shock on the kids faces
19:57 the first F-bomb of the series is dropped by Will (although it's hard to catch) when he's attacking Castle Byers with a baseball bat. So this is the second time the show drops an F-bomb.
While Nancy was right and something WAS happening with the rats, I feel like their argument was about so much more. As woman in the 80's, working in a place where you're never taken seriously can be humiliating, even today. That's not something that Johnathan would understand because he's a guy and he doesn't have to deal with that on a daily basis. However, Johnathan was also making a valid point. If Nancy doesn't want to work in that kind of environment she has the option of quitting because her parents got money so there's some privilege that comes with that. Johnathan doesn't have that background and he probably feels the pressure of having to make a name for himself without any help. Also for him it's probably worse because he's more than likely planning to take care of his mother and brother as well. I don't blame them for not seeing the other side of things. Sometimes it can be quite easy to focus on our own problems instead of trying to understand where someone else is coming from.
The 220 degrees they left Billy in the Sauna is a pretty mediocre heat for the Finnish saunas so its okay to be in that heat. Sometimes in the saunas here the temperature can reach temperatures even higher than 250 and you could still be in there okay :)

I literally felt like I was having a heat stroke. It was that bad
Suraj, when are you starting your weekly ASMR streams?
Guys, Hawaiian shirts are not Miami Vice. Hawaiian shirts are Magnum PI. Miami Vice is a white blazer over a pastel colored shirt. Get your 80s cop show fashion references straight! :)
Hawk Flame but it’s a pastel Hawaiian shirt... still heh
Herta Schneider Miami P.I
for me the hopper issue is less about how he treated mike and more about how he abuses authority to do whatever he wants, lol
you mean the way every lead in a similar movie/series usually does ? lol
@@deankent228 yes but every lead is not a cop
Well he sort of had to, didn't he? They wouldn't gotten anywhere solving the threat without Hopper.
@@droolpuppy1398 plus he's been this way since season 1, just kicking ass. it'd be more weird if handled situations calmly honestly.
That scene when Billy breaks down is a masterpiece. How Billy can tug at your heartstrings and make you feel bad for him in one scene when clearly he's the most hated character and bad guy of the show.. Such raw emotion in that and he totally breaks Max into tears..
Can we just sit back and admire the sheer acting talent of *everyone* in this show? I can't name a single one that didn't bring their A game.
@Chris, about the Billy leader/mindflayer thing: I think Billy was the first as in he got hit by the shadow just as Will did in Season 2. Billy then recruits others but infects them a different way (the face hugging thing, by the monster) hence the difference between him and the rest.
"Don't kill Billy!"
Spongebob Narrator: *One minute later*
"Stab the man! Shoot him!"
When my older sister watched this with me and when Billy was choking Eleven, she was like “Nooooo... shuuut uuup😧”
When Millie (eleven) slid down the wall with Finn (Mike) it wasn’t scripted Millie was so tired/drained from shooting that scene she just slid down and Finn slid with her and looked to the side where there was a camera guy cause he was worried about her
That girl, Rana/Rama's reaction when seeing the Chief naked. Lmao
The Mind Flayer is like Thanos. He’s like “Fine, I’ll do it myself.” And Will is basically 012 now. He can sense the monsters, he has “True Sight.”
"MIKES GONNA DIE!!" Lmao are you serious?!
THE FACT THAT AJ ROCKS SOME JESUS SANDALS MAKE ME HAPPY! I love a good Jesus sandal in the summer which I don’t see too much of anymore. They never went away but they need to make a come back if that makes any sense😂
Nahid: “Don’t kill Billy!”
Literally 1 second later, “Shoot him!”
no dingus, uma thurman and ethan hawke are maya hawke's parents, not robin hawke's parents
"I'll f***ing cut you ". Billy's Australian accent cracked.
Cobra kai is another show that captures every moment brilliantly.these two shows stand above the rest in my opinion.
I’ve been waiting on this all day!!
The struggle when you want to comment on their predictions but it’ll be considered a spoiler so you can’t 😩😩😩
I should notttt have read the comments 😭😭😭 I’m watching this season episode first and then reaction from the Normies and Blind wave immediately following the episode and I’ve just read at least three BIG spoilers in the comments of this episode alone 😭😭🌚
He's channeling "Magnum P.I." his favorite show.
after 21:08 Nahids reactions are just so priceless
"stab the man, shoot him!!"
"what's going oooooon?!"
"RUN!!"
Annoying more than priceless, had to keep the volume down for silly one-liners
Seriously Chris and Rana always give MVP reactions bruh like they definitely me favourites ✌
Like he said, everyone else pretty much treated her like a weapon rather than a person
maya hawke, robin is the character
Their faces OMG! I'm more than satisfied
+The Normies right Robin is dope as f*ck! I love how much she was able to win us over this season considering last season Max and Billy were the new kids on the block and I didn’t like them right away like I did with Robin.
She was cool though as random as her intro was she got stuck in and showed her worth. Still disappointed by her revelation since our boy Steve deserves someone yet I'm guessing they love the group mother thing he's got going and decided to build on it with the addition of Maya and my girl Erica too ✌ 😁😁😁
@@tkschaaf7096 wait...even if she was straight, why do you think that she would've been interested in Steve? She has only ever liked him as a friend, not as a date or boyfriend. Why do you think Steve would be ebntitled to her?
WOW I DIDNT KNOW PEOPLE WERE COMPLAINING ABOUT HOPPER! SOME PEOPLE ARE SO OVERLY SENSITIVE THESE DAYS THAT THEY LITERALLY HAVE A PROBLEM WITH ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING. SOME PARENTS ARE HARSH LIKE THAT...AND IT MAKES SENSE FOR HOPPER! He lost a kid once...and he really loves and cares about Eleven so much. While Mike was being disrespectful to him and kind of influencing her to be disrespectful to him too so of course he was going to get angry. Sure maybe he did take it a bit far BUT IT IS A TV SHOW AND IT WAS SET IN THE 80’S! YOU CANT EXPECT CHARACTERS SUPPOSEDLY FROM THE PAST TO BE AS WOKE AS ALL OF YOU WHO CRITICIZE THINGS LIKE THAT.
It was real when Billy was crying but then the mind flayer showed up and made him evil once more.
How do you know
@@gabrielsouto6031 because not only did will not feel anything till he went for the shard billy isn’t ok with the shit he’s been made to do cause while he is a huge dick he’s not evil
@@gabrielsouto6031 common sense?
@@mohammedfaizaanmoola8529 well billy was not really known for his niceness remember him and max hated each other
@@gabrielsouto6031 ofcourse they hated each other, doesn't mean he wasn't scared, Max was the only familiar face there so obviously he is gonna break down and ask for help
El is so protective of her man.
A true fight not because she hates what’s in front of her but because she loves what’s behind her
when billy was pleading to max that was actually him and not the mindflayer, but when he reached for the shard it was the mindflayer. Billy was genuinely scared and crying
Did you guys see the trailer to Finn Wolfhard’s (Mike) new movie The Goldfinch. If you haven’t I think you guys should react to the trailer
Suraj is the new Micro Machines Guy
And yeah, it's pretty much made clear by it's form that that thing that facehugs the parents is the Mind Flayer, the part that infested Will, in a physical form, which I refer to as the Meat Flayer.
The way the my said “mhmm” at the same time was too cute lol 👍🏽
+The Normies I love how this new blob monster looks like the flayer and especially love how they have him like two curls on the top of “his” head...I say his because remember “he likes it cold.”
BEST EPISODE THIS SEASON❤️❤️
Best?! I think 6 and 8 are the best but I respect your opinion this is also a very good episode
ngl every time the camera is on Billy's face his eyes feel the most emotion, you could feel him trying to get out in his eyes when the Mind Flayer is activated. Pretty sure Billy would break down even if Max was there or not, fighting against a foreign force is hard and Billy really tried his best :(
Cary Elwes's "YOU BROKE MY GODDAMN NOSE!!" made me rofl the first time. It was so overacted but so hilarious.
You know what I just realized, Max was with the group for not very long and they gave her a walkie-talkie to talk on. Meanwhile, Eleven has been with the group for 3 seasons and they never gave her one, even though she’s their star player and saves them every time. Kinda weird?
Was waiting for this like eveeeeeeeeer
Just because Chris has probably read it and seen it, next show NEEDS to be The Boys from Amazon.
Yup! 19:55 it’s the first (and only?) F-word and Dacre Montgomery has said he cringes when he hears it because it’s the only time he can hear his Australian accent coming through.
Suraj absolutely murdered that intro lol
@@allthingslexi6046 really ? ok those guys were assholes ... But i'm sorry dealing with sexists assholes isn't as ahrd as oh i don't know ... end up living on the streets cause your single mother besically lost her job cause of the mall and can't provide you and your little brother who didn't have a freacking childhood ... Nancy was selfish.
You are absolutely correct and she has no understanding of his situations and just brush it off as complaing fron the little man
@0:57 well god damn!! That was impressive and smart!
“Bold words, Cotton” @33:41 is one of my fav references, cuz that performance from Bateman is so out of pocket.
You guys should react to a new show on Amazon Prime called The Boys you guys would love it no doubt.
Will said "fuck" while destroying his castle.
Fun fact Dacre who plays billy wasn’t supposed to smash through the glass he was just supposed to yell at the kids but he said he was so into the role he smashed it and you can tell by the look of pure shock on the kids faces
hahahah, i was waiting for suraj's "we have to go baaaaack!" comment :D
You guys make watching stranger things 10x better 😂😂😂
19:57 the first F-bomb of the series is dropped by Will (although it's hard to catch) when he's attacking Castle Byers with a baseball bat. So this is the second time the show drops an F-bomb.
I wish you guys dropped two a week. I need you to get to episode 8 !
I get "Whoopi Goldberg" vibes from Erica during her ice cream eating/negotiating scene
Run Kids Run - Nahid could pass off as a bus driver
That infomercial voice though 💯
"yeah how dare these children be frozen in fear"
In 4 weeks episode 8 reaction is coming...bet
Xx_mad_xx imma cry again
The frustration I felt when the kids were watching Billy choke El was the same when Billy was beating Steve to death last season!
