  • Cutting out my firewall to get ready for a new hotrod dynamics firewall. Unfortunately I found some rust so the final weld will come later in the build.
    Link to the firewall is listed here.

    Nice look on the firewall replacement. It's looking awesome. Fresh sheet metal is gonna be nice as you proceed. PPE is always a good thing to use in the shop. Look forward to more. Be safe and stay well.

    It's gonna look killer man. Are you going to put in another support strip of metal for the brake master mounting? It will need strength in the area so it doesn't flex when applying brakes. You should weld in some 3/8x24 stainless bolts on the back for master cylinder mounting. You could use stainless acorn nuts on the outside. It sure does look proportionate now. Nice job

      I’d seriously thought about putting something on the inside. When I was laying and looking under dash I’d thought I wish I’d been more careful cutting that section where the column and pedal mount went, I could have used that and welded it back in.

    Looks good brother..I was gonna use that one but not big enough for my setup..the top of the opening is down to far to get a dist in with an 871 blower

      I can see where that blower would make things tight back there.

    Personally I couldn't tell the new firewall was offset at all. Besides you will probably need that little bit extra room since the passenger side head is a little further back than the driver side. Looking forward to seeing the next video on this.

      Hotrod dynamics commented on my facebook post and recommended that I not weld this in until I mock up the motor. He also said to slid the wall up higher. So it’s going to be a while before I can get that far.

      @LeftForDeadGarage good idea.

    If you will offset the engine to match the firewall, not only will nobody ever notice but it will help with the header to steering box clearance. In big block Camaro’s the engine is offset 2” on big block cars

      Wow I didn't know that! Now I know 👍. Still collecting little bits of information to crowd my old brain. 😊

      I got dumb lucky that those gaps weren’t any worse. That sander works well, Iam
      Going to order more attachments for it and see how those work. You’re welcome to come try it out, plenty to sand over here lol.
